Hello to all. As requested by many of our Members, to make the Modder's section of the Forum more user friendly to read and search, we have set up 4 new subcategories dealing with Atomizers, batteries, Cartridges, and, Cosmetics.

To make searching this invaluable knowledge base everyone is building here with their posts, please choose and post in the correct category. And if it does not fit one of the new 4 then just post it in the regular mod Category—

Thanks to all Members that have supported and all Members that will in the future

It's more confusing with 5 catagories than 1. The mod forum is not really such a hotbed of activity that it needed broken up, IMO.

Zep--

Zep--then you missed all the request threads to get this done--if you are talking about atomizers --then people thought it was best that there be an atomizer thread --make sense!!!! Sun

Someone should create a sticky and tell everyone about a possible health hazard when modding.
VG at 280c creates acrolein.Part link below for discussion.
2205-vegetable-glycerine-glycerol-safety-discussion.html

Some of these mods which increase the voltage probably increase the atomizer temperature which looks like it was already around 220c +-

Videonut--Thank You for your concern but you might want to take a look at this latest report about any acrolein--it simply is not there according to this study just completed recently ----Sun

That is a bit more reassuring than some of the discussions made me feel. I see that they tested at 300c. The question is what temps do our mods get to and when if at all does acrolein show up.

From the reading Atomizer is at 250 degrees max and acrolein is at 280 ----Sun

Are you saying that they tested at 250c or an atomizer can only hit 250c?
I saw that in the Mass Spec the input temp was 300c.
My thoughts are that a modded ecig at around 5volts puts out way more vapor so it must be getting much hotter. What if the atomizers hit 400c or even 500c? Would acrolein be produced then.

YES, If you are using modded hardware over the 3.7 volts used in china made e-cigs... I would suggest using PG based liquid only as there is a possibility that modded hardware produce enough power to hit temperatures over 280C and may produce acrolein.

Oh yes it does need grouping. Your just use to it. But if you were totally, brand spanking new to this forum and totally green to tinkering, then you would find this mod forum very frustrating.

I keep meaning to destruction test an atomizer and find out the exact gauge of NiChrome it's using (by checking the resistance of a measured length). If it really is 38gauge (like the 901 disassembly tread stated), then it's capable of hitting 1000 C with 1A, and only doesn't because of the boil-off of the liquid. Pump 2.5A through it dry (2 fresh Li-Ion batteries) and you could liquefy the wire like a fuse element (melting point 1400C). Only the fact that a wire that fine can't contain a lot of heat energy and dissipates it all making vapor and heating the wick keeps the 2-cell mods from going "POP!" like a old-school flashbulb.

So yeah, it would be comparatively easy for an atomizer to reach 300C even in normal operation.

I see this thread is old and there's probably newer info available, but has it been determined yet whether VG might produce acrolien (sp?) in these units?
thanks

It's a secret!
I tried to start a new thread but apparently don't have privs to do this yet so I'll ask here.

Just so you know, I'm totally new to vaping but LOVE IT! However, I can't find a product that is exactly what I'm looking for. So, like many of you, I'd like to try making my own.

What I want is to make a pipe (since pipes and cigars are what I typically smoke) and I know what I want to make, I just haven't found any tutuorials that don't involve a manual switch. I understand how most people seem to prefer those, but for me, I want to be able to walk around with a pipe in my mouth, as I do now, puffing away, without having to hold it.

Are there any tutorials that show how to use an automatic pressure switch that is activated when taking a drag?

Thanks!

Hi,

How can I start a new thread?
I would like to show my first MOD.
I dont' want to sell, but to get public comments.

:D

Got to get that post count up to 15 or better to start a thread and also post pictures at that time I believe. Check out some mods already made and comment on them perhaps plenty of places to post responses to. And looking forward to seeing that mod.

And to show appreciation to the topic I love the way it`s set up now in here.

While the coil temperature of the atomizer may indeed reach a temperature of over 280C, The glycerin does not, seeing as it catches fire at 176C, so unless anyone notes that their atomizer is on fire, I think we can all be reassured about acrolein
