You may want to try a different flavor juice from what came in your kit. The juices run the gamut not only in flavor but in how heavily flavored they are. My everyday vape is lightly flavored, but I enjoy heavier ones occasionally. Most people go through a period of experimentation to find the juices that work for them.
Yeah, many tobacco flavors are oddly sweet. You might get used to it!
You can always try a different flavor -- just hit the Forum Suppliers button at the top of the page and start exploring. Don't buy too much of any one flavor as your taste may change. For example I bought a bunch of the tobacco flavor I was using a week after I started vaping, and then soon found that I didn't like it anymore! Many suppliers have samplers you can get, and the range of tobacco flavors out there is astounding.

Second the sampler packs on juice. There is pretty much every flavor you can imagine and not all of them are syrupy.
I actually saw a post on a DIY thread where a guy said that bacon and vanilla ice cream flavor made a great combination.
What i found that helps is upgrade to a LR tank atomizer for your ego, it seems to work for me
