I looked through the threads here and saw that the "classic" 555 vs "premium" 555 has been discussed a few times. I bring it up again now because there has been nothing new posted in a few weeks.

I've spent quite a bit of time and money trying to find "my" flavor, and ultimately decided that the 555 is the one for me. Now, however, regardless of the nic content, the flavor is just not the same. It is too soft, or vague, or something. It's just not what I had locked in on as my favorite. Is there any word on whether the classic 555 will be coming back?

I thought the difference was in the nic content since I had recently dropped down to a very low nic. Because of this, I bought some higher strength 555 liquid and some prefilled 555 premium carts late last week to satisfy my craving. They arrived today - excellent shipping time, by the way - but they still don't have the flavor of the old 555.

Anybody have any updated insight or details?

Thanks!
Sherrick

I found the premium 555 very "nutty". I liked it, but not in the same way as the old 555.

Plus I found the premium 555 cartos almost useless to refill. I had to boil them just to get the caps off, then use mineral spirits to get the remainder of the label off (they look kinda cool without a label, though). Even then, a refilled carto doesn't seem to work very well or last very long.

I have gone back to my old stand-by cuban cigar original version and will continue that way until they're gone.

Sounds like a case of YMMV. I was able to pop the caps off my 555 premiums using part of a binder clip. I did manage to ruin one of them by catching the atomizer wire, though. Whoops.

Sherrick - I just got my first order of premium 555's today. Have lots of the old juice but really wanted to have some prem cartos for refilling as my RY4 prem carts are amazing for refillability. So, after having read the same threads you are talking about, I was very interested in what my reaction would be to the new cartos. Gotta say ... in my taste test opinion, everyone was right. This just isn't the same at all. It's not particularly gross and anyone trying it for the first time could very well like it the way it is now. As for me ... just glad I still have lots of refill juice. Sorry to hear about your problems refilling so will be anxious to see what happens for me. One thing I have found out (and I have VERY limited 'refill' capabilities) is that the premium cartos refill using the condom method very well but I cannot get the regular cartos to do as well without getting a pile of juice in my mouth. You talk about the caps ... have you tried the condom refill on these? Anyway, sure hope that the V4L crew is on this 'taste' thing and I'm sure they are with all the responses that have been posted about this.

Hello FisherPal! Thanks for posting. I appreciate your response. It's nice to know that I'm not the only one that feels that there is something missing from the new formulation.

I haven't had any trouble doing the refilling of the cartos. Been pretty lucky in that area so far, but I believe someone else did mention having a few issues.

Yep, just went back and looked. It was lady9ball who had particular problems refilling the premiums. I've been just dipping the mouth end of my premiums cartos in boiling water for about 15 seconds or so and then I'm able to remove the caps with the little dental tool I use.

I did get an email from Valerie at V4L this afternoon. She said they were working to get the "classic" 555 taste back and she thought they would have it available soon.

You know ... I gotta say ... I've been vaping this for awhile now and I think this new version is starting to kind of grow on me somehow. If you kind of pretend that it isn't really 555 and don't try to compare it to the old flavor, it sort of takes on a life of it's own. Our taste buds are so weird sometimes ...

Horror of horrors: I ran out of the original recipe V4L 555 today! 8-o That includes scrounging remaining drops out of my empties. Here's praying that Leaford will be able to reverse-engineer the blend from the 5ml bottle I repatriated to Shenzhen a few weeks ago. To paraphrase Star Wars, "Oh help us Leaford, you are our only hope!"

I believe the last batch of the coveted "original recipe" V4L 555 was dated 25/11/2009. I had a bunch of bottles of that, and from the previous 26/08/2009 batch in varying strengths and they were the same amber-colored flavorful yumminess. Perhaps those batches were a quality control "mistake", since the new 555 seems to be straight-up Dekang, and I don't believe V4L has switched manufacturers. Whatever the case, if somehow V4L can get the manufacturer to replicate the blend in the bottle I sent to Leaford, they could offer two distinct 555 blends. I would buy both... in bulk.

It is definitely tasty, and lacking the original recipe I will vape it. "If you can't vape the one you love, vape the one you're with" I think the song goes. (?)
