Does anyone have any idea how to keep puppies from chewing you house down, I'v bought every NO Chew spray on the market and my little darling still wants to chew even after I spray, does anyone have a good home made recipe, I really need help.:(

I have never found anything as far as sprays go that actually work, commercial or home made. The best thing you can do with the little bugger is buy yourself a leash if you don't already have one and leash Fido, then tie the leash to your belt loop. Where ever you go Fido goes and when you catch him/her in the act, take away the inappropriate object with a firm no and hand him/her something parent approved. buy a good collection of puppy chew toys with different textures and rotate them, a couple at a time, so that when Fido gets bored with what they are currently playing with there is always something new waiting. If you can't be with the puppy put him/her in a safe environment, like a kennel, and give an extra special toy, like a Kong filled with peanut butter and kibble. Make sure that you also take puppy for plenty of walks. A tired dog is no longer bored and doesn't get into nearly as much trouble.

The leash trick is also great for housebreaking.

I'm with Storm and Kezy. Attention, lots of play/exercise and kennel when you can't be right there. The chewing can be teething, boredom, or anxiety.

Mine are sitting at my feet right now- but one will start nibbling at my arm when I've been sitting at the computer too long.

BTW Sleepy Jean, where are the puppy pics?

keep the pup contained to 1 room and crate train. Provide plenty of chews toys of the appropriate size and material. It is instinct for puppy's to chew just as it is for baby's. You can teach the pup the right things to chew. Containing the pup to a certain room(often the kitchen works well) and crate training will give you some control. Only take the pup to other rooms when on a leash and supervised . There is also some great training videos n utube. I hope this is of some help , feel free to pm for more info.

Thanks everyone, I'll give the leash and the kong a try, her name is Jazzy Sue and she's a cocker, believe me she's jazzed up all the time, she has a big yard to run in and loves to play ball and with our other dog so she gets plenty of exercise, I tried to put a picture of her on but it would'nt go through so I'll try a different one when I take more.

All great ideas! I have used them all with my German Shepard pups..and I am here to tell you those babies have baby teeth like needles!
I kept a shop towel near me at all times for emegency teething..when my fingers or toes were in danger of being munched. They used it like a pull toy and when the bit down the towel kind of massaged the sore little gums.
A trick we use to speed up the "soft mouth" (when a dog understands nips and bites hurt people and becomes gentle when playing) was when rubbing the dog to hook the other hands fingers behind the back teeth..the dog can't bite down. If those fingers have a tiny bit of peanut butter or honey on them..even better.

Crate Training is great for potty training and keeping them from doing anything you dont want them to.

I would redirect any negative behavior. If you catch her chewing.. firmly say no then offer another activity and give praise and treats when she does what you want.

When Rumor was a baby we had a few "come to jesus meetings" as my daughter called em! Puppys need a boss, its normal pack behavior so when your puppy does something seriously wrong like ...... in the house, jumping out of the car before you allow it or anything that can endanger them its time for one! I screamed and did my best to sound mad as heck.. but it has to be done right as they do it! other wise your gonna confuse em and scare em. Rumor will not get out of the car without me telling her "ok". I can leave all the doors open and nadda.. If you watch a ..... with pups, if they get outa line the mother is one em like flys on a picnic! You are replacing that, but it has to be followed up with praise at the proper behavior and often!

One of Rumors first dog shows she pooped in the ring.. I wanted to die! Since then she has learned to pee on command, still working on the poop part lol! We had a yard but I would follow her when I knew she should need to go, prompt her with "go potty" and follow up with a treat as she peed! Sometimes she fakes it now.. like I cant tell the snow isnt yellow! hehe

Jazzy is so cute. But Tatum is a doll!!!! Her room is just adorable. Lacy's prom dress is very pretty..made for a princess. Levi is a very handsome young man.
Beautiful family.:)

I use photo bucket..it's a free picture storing and sharing site. Once you upload a picture, you will get a list of URLs to use, copy the bottom one and then paste that url here in your message block. It will convert to a picture. No idea how to post a picture from an album here. You can ask up in the top secion of ECF's front page under site feedback.

Thank you both, have to tell you Marykay, Tatums room was all painted by hand by her daddy, our greandson Rick, he's a really good artist, when I saw the roon I just fell inlove with it, thats why I added it to her album. I do have an account with photo bucket, I'll give that a try when I have more time to play.

I have a new puppy also and am in puppy training school. The best way I have gotten her to stop chewing things is sneak around with a squirt bottle when she is chewing something she should not squirt her but dont let her see you it will take about 15 days for her to get the message. OR fill a coke can with 10 pennies or so and when she is chewing something she should not shake it at her a few times while she is in the act and she will stop. Remember to buy lots of toys and praise her when she chews on them. This worked great for my puppy she is like a new dog. Another good thing is to teach her the watch me command that way if she is doing something she isnt supposed to you can say watch me and she will stop and come to you.
