well, i solved my mystery. i'm running ff with no-script and for the google search function in ecf to work i would need to allow googleapis. this is a deal breaker for me since allowing that substantially increases load time across the board.
I am not even sure what you mean by doing a Google Search from within the ECF. All I see at the top is "Search ECF" box to type in or the Advanced Search button.

This is what the ECF looks like for Me running Kirsch under Win7 / IE9 @ 1024 x 768
The White Box in the Upper R/H Corner is a Google Search Box which searches the ECF. The "Advance Search" below it will take me to the a search of the ECF using VBulletin.
The VBullentin search appears to works Correctly. The Google Search does Not.
Try switching your Skin to Kirsch and give it a try. I'm curious if it is my machine or if others are having the same problem.

The Kirsch 2 is the only one that did not provide any results. Although the Blackend results did not seem to even pertain to what I was searching for. I would suggest using "use forum default" until they fix it, unless you are going to use the Advanced Search function.

I don't use the Search that much anymore. I can get by using Kirsch-2. I like the Look of it Better. And it doesn't have the Slider Bar at the Bottom of the page like ECF-1 does at my Resolution.
I'm sure the Code Monkeys will get everything straight. I'm not in a Huge Hurry.
