Hello, I'm 18 and the first thing I have to say is that I have never smoked at all, but also I know that eventually I will try smoking as I have friends who do so... They don't pressure me to smoke at all, but I do want to, however, I don't want to at the same time, so any of you think I should try an e-cig with 0 nicotine just so I can get the experience out of the way... I know it is stupid looking for an addictive habit, but I know I will try smoking sooner or later, so wouldn't it be better to go with E-cig instead of a real one?

read a few articles about how many health problems have been acquired during smoking analog, then read about those same smokers moving to vape. you'll see a remarkable health difference, no doubt, but none of us (far as i've ever seen posted) would do something that you are proposing. While I give you credit for at least thinking about it, addiction to nicotine is just that... an addiction. Seriously think about it before you try vaping, even if it's just 0mg. Just because it's cleaner and less likely to cause health problems, doesn't mean that it's an innocent thing to do.

Ok, i just wrote this... and realized how old im getting... geesh! When did i turn into my mother?

Thank you.
Well, I'm thinking of just buying one and having it because I know me and I know I'll do an analog sooner or later so between super stupid and just stupid, I'll go with the second one
And who knows maybe my friends will switch over as well... All now a days smokers started with someone wanting to try it, at least there is a kinda better way to go now...

I don't understand your question...

If you are looking for a ONE TIME EXPERIMENT to see what it is, investing the money in the hardware and the juice upfront doesn't make sense. Bum a cigarette from one of your friends and be done with it.

If you are thinking about picking up a habit, e cigs are not as bad as cigarettes, but they are not a good habit either. I agree with mn-puffer: "i would recommend not to start either."

Welcome to the forum.

Wow. Knowing what I'm sure you already know about tobacco, why? Is it just curiosity? That's how many of us got started.

My sister-in-law got started that way. One thing led to another and she died of lung cancer two years ago, much too young. Many members have quit because they want to be alive to see their children grow up. I quit because I want to live and don't want to suffer a drawn-out and ugly death. My sister-in-law went through chemotherapy, radiation, a feeding tube, etc. Not pretty. Most of us didn't have that picture in our heads when we smoked our first cigarette and you probably don't either. Forgive me if I'm being a little harsh, but I'm hoping to plant that seed in your mind.

If you absolutely must inhale something for whatever reason, please don't make it a cigarette. I believe there is no question that e-cigs are safer, but probably even safer is just inhaling air. I realize there is the social aspect you are dealing with and that it's hard to look that far into the future, but to actively seek any addiction spells trouble later on.

Bumb a cigarette off of a friend. Light it and take a huge drag then inhale deeply. Make sure your friend has a camera to take a picture of your facial expression when all of the sudden you have to cough your head off.

You are basically asking all of us to tell you to start vaping. NOT ME! If you don't already smoke, don't start, even vaping. Have the willpower to say no and walk away.

Lisa, thank you for putting in perspective how you guys were feeling how you tried smoking yourselves, I can see how people in here might think this is weird someone actually talking about starting to smoke, since must people here want to quit, but apparently they don't remember and at one point they wanted to start...

And well even though I know much of the effects, I'm sure many of you knew as well, try to get in my position, kinda remember why you guys picked up your first cigarette?

i started the same reason you are thinking about it, friends who were more then happy to bum me a few... it was only 15 years ago and feels like yesterday. Got solidly hooked when a neighbor figured out she could pay my babysitting fees in packs... and on my 18th birthday, purchased a pack on my own and openly smoked it in front of my smoking mother who near bit my head off, ripped me a new one, and booted me on the streets right then and there. Not for disrespecting her house by smoking, but for the fact that I hid it for 3 years and she had to do 3 years of punishments all at once.

While the social aspect is dandy... and it's true that some dont actually become addicted, maybe a good, deep inhale on an analog will just get the curiosity over with. I like the idea of a camera XD

I dint know man. forget what your friends do.Do your own thing. Just stay away from it all. You dont need to start smoking/vaping anything. Who knows, vaping might turn into a gateway situation. trust me you dont want to take that chance. Ending up a smoker seems harmless at first but everyone here would tell you its the worse decision we ever made. we started cuz we thought it was worth a shot. Its not!!We thought it was cool. Its not!! we started out of curiosity but "curiosity KILLED the cat". Its stupid. Its not worth the interest.DONT DO IT!!

If you start smoking, at a MINIMUM, you will wind up with a half-pack a day habit, more likely 1 to 2 packs a day eventually. I don't know what cigarettes cost where you are, but you can blow an awful lot of gas money on cigarettes.

Let me put it into perspective. For the cost of maybe 3 packs of cigarettes, you could easily take your best friend to lunch or a movie....every week.

My son is a smoker. He's doesn't work, so he has to beg, borrow and take odd jobs JUST to support his habit. There's nothing left for concerts, movies, dating in general.

If you smoke, even if its been an hour or more, you will smell just like your friends that smoke. Your breath will be terrible, and you will immediately cut the dating pool by about 80%.

Read these forums. Look at what some of these people have had to go through to quit. Its not "cool" or "fun" or even pleasant to hear about, much less experience first hand.

Trust me, if you start, you WILL become dependent on it, both physically and psychologically. We here have managed with a LOT of effort (and money) to get away from the physical addiction. Most of us will NEVER be rid of the psychological part.

Whatever you decide, it will change your life forever....

It's like saying, "I want to take up h3r01n addiction because it looks so cool". Well maybe it does, to the young, but there is a price to pay and that day comes sooner than you think.

On the other hand, it is undeniable that at some stage in the future, people will start smoking with an e-cig. It's just statistics after all - when 50% of the smoking population have converted to e-cigarettes, it is inevitable that many won't start out with tobacco. Actually that's a good thing because by that time the death rate will have begun to fall through the floor. It's still an undesirable addiction though.

I'd say, forget looking cool and doing that social thing, find something better to feed your energy into. I did a lot of crazy things and to be honest I shouldn't be alive now. I know a lot of dead people.

Maybe a short, fast life has its attractions but there is a certain satisfaction in still being around when many you knew aren't. Just don't start down that road.

okay- you wana try a cigarette- Understandable- Its just like a beer- everyone wants to try it- BUT, I am going to be honest- Cigarettes are not like beer- yes you can get addicted to beer- but it takes a while- and most people dont- it doesnt take long with a smoke- its legal crack- unless you have a bad bad time- (it gives you an asthma attack, your throat closes up and you cant breathe etc), you WILL try it again- even if you DONT like it- noone liked beer the first time either-

would you pick up a herion needle? I am not being a smartass- REALLY- I am telling you strait- something I wish someone had told me- I NEVER did drugs- even though I grew up in a house where they were everywhere- I DETEST drugs- and I ALWAYS detested smoking- at 15 I picked one up- just to be defient- Now at 35 I cant play ball with my kids- I cant have a tickle fight with them, I cant run and chase them with a lizard, I get winded by LAUGHING. I smoked Marlboro light 100's for 20 years. I went INTO it saying "I can quit these easier" and my mom bought them for me- well I take that back- I was the one with a job, I bought hers AND mine. LOL

anyway- I am not trying to scare you- I am just being strait with you- and I swear to you, I have never done drugs- would you snort a line of coke? would you smoke a crack rock? shoot up? smoking is just as bad- it will kill you, its soooo hard to stop, if you ever do- its expensive, and it makes you an outcast-

The thing with crack, speed, herion etc is those folks dont usually make it to their 40's or 50's. So they dont need the oxygen tanks, the breathers, the little go buggy's at walmart- 99% of those people that are using those- have to because they smoked. PERIOD.

and I dont drink- sure I did when I was younger- but VERY seldom will I take a drink now- NOt because I am a teetotaler- I just dont care to-
I HATE drugs- I dont even want to be around anyone who smokes pot- I just HATE them. I am a VERY respected member of my community, I was the PTA mom, I am a 4-H leader, firearms instructor, baseball coach- Neither my husband or I would ever even allow someone on our property that had a joint- bring a beer- but not dope-

and yet-- I am a crackhead- a legal crackhead- but I am a crackhead- and I beg you, dont start doing drugs- of any sort- that includes bumming a cig off a buddy- because its THAT addicting. I didnt ever hide smoking- I walked in the day I started and told my mom- she said "well I hate it, but I will buy them for you, just like my mom did me" she never did- like I said, I was the one with a job- and I could walk in any store and buy them myself- and I went into this habit with the concious (sp) decision to smoke the lightest cigarettes so it would be easier to quit- Thats like a coke head saying "naw- I dont want crack- that stuff is addictive"

Yes, I know I sound like a mom preaching- and I am- but, my kids have helped me get off cigs- They are smart enough to know- please be smart enough to know too-

(you know whats sad, I DONT sound like my mother- I sound like a real mom, that makes me proud... LOL )
