I know where you're coming from OP. I have been exactly where you are.

I was in my late teens, knew smoking wasn't great, but a lot of friends did, and heck, I was pretty rebelious in other ways too. Figured what harm could it do? Just a few, mind. Never really gonna start smoking like a habit.

And then it was a habit. But only a light smoker, not a pack a day kind of thing, or anything like that.

Then it was a pack a day, sometimes more. But you know, I was young and fit, still going to quit before I got health problems or anything.

Then I had moderate health problems as a direct result of smoking. Still couldn't quit.

And then my wife and I started a family, which was something I always planned to quit before doing. I STILL COULDN'T QUIT.

And still couldn't. And still couldn't.

Then I found Ecigs. And I have thanked God for them every day since.

And all of this has happened in the blink of an eye, it seems. But I smoked for 20 years, and did damage to my body, some of which is almost certainly permanent.

I was where you are, almost exactly 20 years ago, and I wish I had chosen differently. I chose to smoke. I should have chosen not to.

I really don't mean to preach. I have been there, I understand, and I will NOT fault you if you choose wrong.

But smoking is the wrong choice. Find anybody, and I mean ANYBODY who has been smoking for years, who started at your age, and ask them.

They all say the same thing. They wish they hadn't started.

It's hard to see how they're all wrong.

They aren't. Smoking is. Smoking is the wrong decision. Smoking ecigs is better than smoking real cigs, but smoking nothing is better than smoking anything.

Choose carefully. It's harder to unchoose than you think.

Take a good look at what we are doing. We use a product that appears to be safer than cigarettes but, whose long term effects are unknown. Now read some of the posts. Compared to cigarettes, this is a finicky, trouble prone product. We go to a lot of trouble to use it. Some people try new things because they are gadget happy but, a lot of the motivation is because they aren't satisfied with what they are using. The only reason we do it is because we have a godawful expensive addiction that is going to kill us. You don't want to be like us.

You don't have that motivation. So, if you start this, you probably won't stick with it. You'll probably start smoking instead. Please don't! You will regret it.

If you've reached 18 without trying a cigarette, I think you've well exceeded the age at which, for many (probably most) of us, the hook was set. I think you should just consider yourself somebody for whom nicotine wasn't meant, leave it at that, and good going. At your age, I would think you're past the point of that sort of impulsiveness--especially since you're bothered to think about it in advance. It's easier for most 18-year-olds to decide not to start smoking than it was for my 13-year-old self.

It's really not so much about my friends, I for me, been wanting to try it for a while, that's essentially it.
Ask your self why. I mean for a while? It wont be a while and it adds nothing to your life. Like I said curiosity killed the cat. Im not trying to preach anything to you.You are an adult and can make your own decisions but from my point of view in retrospect and Im sure many will agree...its useless!!! ecigs are great for x smokers but it is still just the lesser of two evils so to speak. It is still addictive. I know you said you were planning on 0 nic but if your curious now that will only grow if you start down this path. this is an important crossroads for you right now.If you can just make up your mind now to make the decision to do what is healthiest for you now than that will start you on the right path for the rest of your life when faced with decisions like this. This one is easy make the smart decision.

To just accept "you are going to try at some point" is selling your self short. You are in control of your decisions and you can decide this is not going to be an issue anymore.

Im sorry if this isn't what you were hoping to hear but there is a good reason why it bothers us to think of you starting from nothing.

Thank you guys, I really appreciate all of you guys advice and I wish some of my friends would have done something like this before ever trying smoking, experience from real people is great.
If I ever feel like trying I can always come back to this and realize that it really would be stupid. Thank you again, Jay.

Doubt I'll be trying smoking BTW, Thank you. :)

Hello, I'm 18 and the first thing I have to say is that I have never smoked at all, but also I know that eventually I will try smoking as I have friends who do so... They don't pressure me to smoke at all, but I do want to, however, I don't want to at the same time, so any of you think I should try an e-cig with 0 nicotine just so I can get the experience out of the way... I know it is stupid looking for an addictive habit, but I know I will try smoking sooner or later, so wouldn't it be better to go with E-cig instead of a real one?

Nope. Don't do it.

And well even though I know much of the effects, I'm sure many of you knew as well, try to get in my position, kinda remember why you guys picked up your first cigarette?

Yeah, because we didn't know as much about the dangers as we do now. Honestly, I am gobsmacked that you even need to ask this. with what we know about tobacco, and the dangers of smoking, and that THEY KILL YOU, you, who have never smoked, are still saying "I'll try one eventually". Sorry if this sounds harsh, but you, my friend, are an idiot.

Great....it will be one of the best things you will-can-should do for your body, for your family, for your friends, for any one, FOR YOURSELF.

I wish you well Brother. Live a long, healthy, happy life. Make wise choices and follow thru. You have your agency to decide and choose all things. Use it wisely. Oh...and pass this on to everyone you can. You will be blessed. :thumb:
