Hey guys, i just purchased a new smoktech magneto. This is my first Mech. That being said ive done quite a bit of research before i decided to grab a mech. Although i still have my newbie questions. The guys at the vape shop in my town only sold flat top Samsung icr18650 26f and that's what they've been using in their devices so i figured it'd be somewhat safe. Although remembering what I've read i knew ICR is not what i wanted, but got some anyway to make due till i order new ones. So far so good. They last almost all day with no noticeable power loss with a 1.5 ohm coil on a rda. But i still don't trust the ICR battery. So my question is, what type of battery would suit this particular mod? Button top or flat top? I would also like to go lower ohm and maybe even delve into the sub ohm sometime in the future but for now keeping my coils at the very least 1.0 ohm. At least until i get quite a bit more experience under my belt. I've read almost all forums and know roughly what kind i should get but instead of jumping the gun and buying a 30a 18650 I'd like to know if anyone has had experience with this mod and what battery has worked for them in similar situations. Thanks :)

you want IMR batteries for your mech mod. The weak link in your mech mod is the battery. Do not go cheap on batteries, even though quality batteries are actually quite inexpensive.

$7 Sony US18650VTC4 2100mah 30A - Triangle Vape LLC
$7.50 Efest 18650 2500mah 20A/35A IMR - Triangle Vape LLC

This is a reputable vendor. I have already purchased 4 Sony batteries from here and IMO they're legit Sony brand. They always sell out really fast when they get the batteries in stock. Keep checking back or visit their Facebook page for updates. facebook.com/trianglevape

I really like my Magneto. It's a strong hitting mech and has survived a few falls to the concrete. The telescoping tube even got cross threaded when it fell and I was able to unscrew it, while cross threaded, and then re-screw it back in with no problems.

Oh and I have flat top batteries for my Magneto. When I screw the flat top in, it barely covers the threads on the telescoping tube because it's so long. I imagine a button top with the extra length, would make it show some threads on the telescoping tube. I'd go with flat tops.

Thanks buddy i appreciate the info. yeah i love the design of the magneto and the construction of the mod is what appealed to me from the get go. im a carpenter so my mods will surely get abused lol. i know my egos did. so the stainless steel and brass of this lil mod was a no brainer compared to any aluminum mods lol. and yeah it came with flat tops but then again thats all the shop carried and uses lol but i knew for certain with all the warnings about the icr i didnt want to use them for long if at all. again i greatly appreciate the info. :)

No problem amigo! BTW, your ICR isn't necessarily "dangerous" unless you build a coil out of the battery's max discharge amp rating. Using Ohm's Law you can safely vape with that battery. IMR's just don't blow fire or explode if they go into thermal runaway. NCR and ICR I believe have more dangerous runaway events. That doesn't mean an IMR will always be "safer" it's up to us to build our set ups accordingly.

Of course the saying goes, better safe than sorry, right? Grab some of those Sony 30A or this new Efest 20A/35A that just hit the market. I recommend like 3 or 4 of them. On a .45 ohm dual coil I could only get maybe an hour of good vaping before the power drop off was too low to enjoy anymore. If you run 1.0ohm it will last longer, but still, if you're out on the job you're gonna want back ups that are ready to go and not wait for charging. That Triangle vape sells battery cases for like $2 too.

I've had my magneto for a fee weeks and I love it. I may have messed up and spoiled myself with the magnetic switch on my first mech though (that thing is so buttery smooth to fire). Looks killer in 650 mode with my ss kraken clone on top. Built at about 0.8 ohms and it rocks all day for about 8 hours with my level of use. Wanted a mech since I work in the oil field. I have 2 of the Sony vtc4 and will probably get a couple more. And some 490 or 500s when my nemesis comes in.

I've had my magneto for a few weeks now and I have ha no issues with flattop or button tops. But I'm going to say get some high drain battery's 20a/30a even if you don't rebuild to crazy sub ohm they do preform well. I personally have a igo t at .56 ohm (Efest 30amp 2100mah) my igo w is my battery killer at .18ohm. Magneto rocks them all day. I would recommend at least 4 battery's if you go sub ohm you will go through them. If you keep it above or at 1 ohm 2 battery's a day. If you vape it all day. I will add a disclaimer if you get a duel coil and your make duel you most likely be sub ohm. If you wrap (2)1 ohm coils it will be around .5 ohm

Igo w is solid just like the igo t just not titanium. I have not put it on my drill press yet to drill out my holes but I love the easy access of sliding the coil wire through instead of wrapping it around the post like my old addi.
