Hi everyone

Just to introduce myself. Started vaping nearly 3 weeks ago and quit my 1.5 pack a day 40 year habit immediately. My husband has done the same.
Have tried to stop smoking hundreds of times over the years with no success. Tried patches, gum, hypnotism, acupuncture etc with no avail. Can't believe I have managed to kick the habit after all these years.
OK so I have had a few rough moments but have not had a cig nor do I intend to. vaping really does help with the cravings, the psychological dependence and the physical hand to mouth habit.
I found this forum and decided to join as it has helped dispel many myths about vaping.
Thank you everyone.

Welcome to the forum - just kicked a 37 year habit myself.

Are you shocked by how much better you feel?

psychological dependence and the physical hand to mouth habit. thats the problem with the patch, gum and so on. its the hand to mouth, puffing and blowing out smoke. thats what stopped me from going back to smokes. almost 3 months for me. first week i had about 6 cigs, thats it. talked a friend into it. him and his wife have gone from a pack plus a day to only 5 or 6 cigs a day, which i guess is normal. i feel better, sense of smell has increased a lot.

I have to say that I felt anxious at first when I started because I was worried I was ODing on nicotine! Then I realised that I was suffering from tobacco withdrawal symptoms - headache, jittery etc. The amount of nicotine I vape is between 6 and 18 mg depending on how I am feeling. Emotionally I feel fantastic for having stopped the analogues and for the first time in years I can smell the roses and walk up a hill without my chest feeling like it's going to explode.

Thank you everyone for your encouragement. It is very strange but I don't have the urge to smoke cigs anymore. Now and again I start to look for my lighter or ashtray and then I remember I don't need those anymore! Also the amount of money saved - in the UK my brand were nearly £10 a packet and my husband and I were smoking 3 packets a day between us. Absolutely ridiculous - that is £30 a day between us. So in addition to hopefully lengthening our lives we are saving a fortune.

I love this! I'm in day 3 of quitting, and I'm surprised at how easy it is compared to past (pre ecig) attempts.

Yes, the money spent on cigarettes is insane. My husband and I spent $100 per week which is a lot here in the US. I took an early retirement in August, so that sort of money isn't even an option anymore, especially for something that's going to kill us.

Is your husband quitting too? My husband isn't .... yet. But he's watching me carefully, and says I'm inspiring him, so I'm hopeful. :)

Hi Rose - good for you quitting too. Yes my husband and I both quit at the same time. He tried a cig after about a week (I didn't) but quickly put it out as he said it tasted foul. Like you we both retired early last March and simply can't afford to keep smoking cigs. That however wasn't the real reason because as all tobacco addicts if we really wanted to smoke we would have found a way! Health was the main reason and the fact that it was ridiculous to keep doing something that would ultimately kill us! Keep going - it keeps getting easier. x

Welcome to a beginning of an awesome journey!

Me, going on 7 months cigarette free after 36+ pack and a 1/2 a day habit. Tried other methods and this is the only thing that has worked. Side benefit I've seen beyond better health, smell, etc. is I"m loosing weight! I satisfy my sweet tooth with juice ;)
