A few weeks ago I purchased a Kamry K200 vv/vw mod from Akavapers that came with a tank and 2 pre-punched cartos (unknown brand). An email response from Brian let me know the tank was an X8. The X8 was just a bonus to me and originally I left it alone (I use 2 evods and 2 protanks). So, I decided to try the tank out. The first mistake I made was filling it with a sample juice I hadn't tried yet and I hated the juice. :) I threw the first carto away assuming the taste would be there no matter what I'd try. Next up I filled it with Dark Chocolate Mint from Highbrow. The flavor was really good and this led me to picking up a Smok dct and a pack of Smok 2.5 Ω dual coils from Vermillion River (local B&M). The dct currently has a very light Malibu Pineapple juice in it and is working great.

So, my questions...is there a way to clean out a flavor from a carto or do you just toss them? The HB juice clogged up the carto fairly quickly (when in the tank you can't see the carto the juice is so dark) so is it better to only use "light" juices in cartos? The only cartos I have right now are XL and I put one on the X8 and it seems to be working fine; is there anything that precludes using XL cartos in standard length tanks?

Thanks for any and all responses.

As for cleaning out a flavor, no, unless some new method just recently popped up. As for dark colored liquids killing cartos, sometimes, but not always. Boba's Bounty is dark and is not a carto killer. It just depends on the liquid. Yes an XL carto can be used in a standard tank. The carto will simply stick out further.

I've seen a couple of people say they clean them by boiling them but I've never personally tried it. You can usually get pretty good deals on cartos, especially if you start to punch your own so I figure if one lasts me a week or 2 I've got my money's worth. My dark juices don't clog mines but seem to have a shorter life span. More like a week. What mix is your juice?

Thanks for the replies. I wanted to use the XL size on the X8 because the fill screw head was getting in the way of my drip tip; glad it's only a cosmetic thing.:) The Highbrow juice comes as a 70/30 mix in the samples I think. I only got one tank through the carto that came with the tank before the draw stiffened up; maybe just a cheap carto.

Dark colored and thicker (heavy on the Vg) liquids will not last as long as clear or thinner eliquids in a cartotank. The filler material in the cartomizer soon acts like a filter, stiffens the draw, and eventually clogs the air hole up.

A minority of carto users do re-cycle their cartomizers, but most don't. The way I look at it, I spent over $5 A DAY on smokes, spending $2 every 1 - 3 weeks on a cartomizer is not a money pit.

There are minor differences in carto brands. Boges have a more dense filler material - this makes them a little harder to fill and sometimes wick adequately, but they are less likely to flood. Smoktech cartos have a less dense filler material - this makes them easier to fill and wick adequately, but they are more likely to flood.

Smoktech cartos only come in the XL (45mm) length. Boges are available in the standard (35mm) and XL length.
