Well I am new to this forum and vaping, but have been an active member of many forums for many years. I figured I would join this one to get some feedback.

I started vaping 3 weeks ago with a awesome coupon for a subox mini after my little one asked me to quit cigs....

3 weeks in my 1.5ohm OCC coil starts tasting burnt so I try the .5 ohm OCC. Of course this is where my experience started to go downhill... constant juice spit and burnt chunks firing into my throat, not to mention the tank leaks although I had that with the 1.5ohm as well but I tolerated it hence the vape was perfect.

I then ordered some kanthal 30ga and it arrived overnight from amazon prime.. built a couple coils as per videos and suggestions from this forum. No luck, spitting.. burning chucks.. but my coil was identical to the video?! Finally; I concluded it was the wicking... so I tried a wicking method suggested to someone on this forum with these exact issues along with the "fire few seconds then inhale" method.. worked great for about 12hrs.. walked around with it in my pocket at work all day and must have flooded it or something because it was spitting again by tonight.

Now, I've tried the same build again tonight with no luck and became discouraged.. I'm out of patience and I'm out of wicking.. so my question after telling my story is what mod kit to buy and upgrade to? I prefer tank, rba is optional although I do like building coils.. can't drip because I'm always working.

Suggestions appreciated, hope to stick around here guys!

1.5 and 0.5 OCC are a little different. Lower resistance coils tend to soak up liquid faster and can get too soggy, it's true. But they need to be this way to keep up with higher power vaping.
You don't need to upgrade, but it's up to you. The subtank is as good as anything to learn to build on.
Baby steps are generally the way to go.
Agitation (walking around, playing golf!) and non-vertical movement of the tank can encourage leaks. The subtank is 99% reliable if you never take it off the mod and the mod is upright.
Keep going! Good luck. :)

I was running it wide open, and Ive been reading alot of people have issues with spitting in subtank and toptanks. I have 3 tanks now.. the subtank, toptank, and an innokin isub 5 5ml.. I definitely love this innokin much more than the toptank I got a couple days ago.

I had just got the toptank dialed in where I like it, and then my innokin showed up in the mail today so I'm using it and the spitback/burnt chunks is non existent on this tank.

I did find on the toptank/subtank that the juice I was using (Dig Strongman Blueberry/Lemonade) was severely acting up in any tank I put it in. I plan to try the RBA/OCC again this weekend with my current juice (50/50 Mitten Cake) which is going great in the toptank/isub.

I know alot of the subtank was probably user error as I was trying to get it dialed in, but I didn't have that issue with the 1.5 ohm only the .5 ohm; and the thing leaked like Niagara falls.

Nonetheless, thanks for the welcomes!

Maybe get a clearomizer tank for daily use while you fiddle and learn on the rebuildable atties. Information Resources for Your First RBA

I have the Uwell Crown subohm clearomizer tank. It uses factory-made replaceable coils. My coils last nearly a month before needing replaced. I've not had any issues with leaking or spitback.

Kit comes with spare glass tank replacement and three different coils to try. A top fill tank. Has a racetted ring to control air flow from a tighter mouth-to-lung to a more wide open direct-lung draw. 4 ml juice capacity.

This is what I'm using while practicing with the RBA

As I said previously it's performing excellent and I'll update you guys once I try my rba build on a different juice this weekend.
