Hi there.

New to the forum and I just got my first APV. I started off on crappy store bought cigalikes a few years ago then moved onto the mid type batteries when they became available where I'm from (Galway, Ireland) ending up with a litejoy 1100mAh.
Im now using my new VAMO V5 with 2 small ICR 18350 (3.7V 900mAh) batteries and a Kangertech protank 2. So, I have been looking through the forum and as an APV noob I have quite a few questions on things I have come across here.

1) I'd like to know what you think of this setup and if you have any tips or tricks
2) Ohm's? I understand they are different depending on each coil but whats better, lower or higher? Mine is at 2.3 in my PT2.
3) vaping difference in Voltage or wattage modes?
4) I have come across a plethora of acronyms so if anyone could direct me to a list of explanation's that'd be amazing.

Thanks in advance

Hello Graham and welcome to the forum. I use the search box at the top right corner of every page quite often. It is keyword activated and has been quite useful. My opinion is you have a nice setup. I use an iStick 50W mod with Aspire Nautilus Mini's, so I don't have experience with your mod.

Good luck in your journey. Don't be shy about asking questions, the experts in here have helped me a lot.

As to your second and third question, this comes down to Ohm's Law, where there is a direct relationship between voltage and wattage. Ohm's Law states

Volts x Volts / Ohms = Wattage

Therefore, if you increase the voltage, while keeping the resistance the same, the wattage will automatically increase as well. If you keep the voltage constant, but increase the resistance, then wattage will go down. For example, if you are using 3 volts and the resistance is 1 ohm, then the wattage will be 9 watts. If you increase the resistance to 1.5 ohms, then the wattage will be 6 watts. If you decrease the resistance to 0.5 ohms, then the wattage will increase to 18 watts.

So there really is no difference if you choose to adjust voltage rather than wattage, or vice versa. The capabilities of your mod will determine how low you can go with your coil. Say that your mod can go up to 6 volts. If your coil is a 0.5 ohm coil, this means that you will need 72 watts. If your mod can only produce 50 watts, then it won't work. A regulated mod will automatically limit your voltage or wattage based on the coil you are using, the voltage or wattage you have selected, and what the limits of the mod is.

As far as what is better, higher or lower resistance on the coil, that comes down to personal preference. Higher resistance will mean that the coil will not heat up as quickly, therefore the juice won't vaporize as fast and won't produce as much vapor. This also means that the vapor won't be as warm. If you lower the resistance, then the coil heats up much faster, the vapor will be warmer and it will produce more vapor. This also means that since there is more vapor, there will also be more nicotine in the vapor. Generally, if you change to a coil will lower resistance, you will need to decrease the nicotine strength in your juice since you will be getting more of that nicotine in your system. Of course, if you are comparing a 2.0 ohm coil to a 1.8 ohm coil, there isn't that much of a difference as far as the amount of nicotine in the vapor however, the difference is much more if you are going from a 2.0 ohm coil to a 0.5 ohm coil.

That's a decent setup. If it suits your vaping needs, its a great setup. I'll recommend that you not use an ICR battery and switch to high drain, safe chemistry batteries (Li-Mn, also called IMR).

2) Ohm's? I understand they are different depending on each coil but whats better, lower or higher? Mine is at 2.3 in my PT2.
That depends upon your personal tastes, really. If you prefer a cooler vape, then higher ohms are better. If you prefer a warmer vape, then lower ohms. Lower ohms will heat up the coil faster and hotter, but also uses up more energy from the battery.

3) Vaping difference in voltage or wattage modes?
They both get you to the same place, they just use a different way to get there. Adjusting the voltage changes the wattage, and vice versa. Use which ever mode is easiest for you.

4) I have come across a plethora of acronyms so if anyone could direct me to a list of explanation's that'd be amazing.

Hello Graham.

The Vamo is a nice "mod" e-cig. I have the V5 one. My only recommendation would be to order a high quality IMR 18650 battery for it.

You are using two cheap batteries, which usually works out OK, as the Vamo is has it's own chip for power/protection.

Protank 2 is not a great tank i.m.o. I would recommend a Aspire (mini) Nautilus BVC if you find you start getting through the replacment heads and/or they leak.

Thanks for the welcome mate, I will definitely get a better battery, I have read here that the cheap ones can vent flames if they fail (...... that). Is there any specific brand you recommend?
I do find the Protank 2 with a 2.3 ohm coil is giving a burnt taste at 7w so im not getting much of a vape or taste from it and I like to taste my strawberry bomb juice haha

Some ICRs can be bad news. That's presumably what you have.

I use AW and Sony VTC. There are now some good ones by Samsung and even LG. As long as they are "IMR" by a quality brand, you'll be OK.
Power vapers need batteries that have higher amp limits... 20a, 30a etc.

Watch out for fake VTC5. I got a real one (just one) back when they were generally available.

Protank 2 is an unpredictable clearomiser. I never had any luck at all... so I bought an airflow controller and made homemade coils with cotton wool.

They're desperately old tech now (things move that fast) and if you decide to upgrade, jump directly to the latest tanks. Please avoid the Protank 3 and all those garbage tanks... they have dual coils and you need a really good battery to get vapour. All of these are inferior to Aspire Nautilus BVC.

My Protank 2 is working nicely on Vamo, I've got some mint blast in it.... but it needs a custom coil.

mint blast... LOL
