Hi, I've been a smoker for several years. Decided last week to try once again a way to quit smoking without the side effects. vaping seemed to be a way to go. So my frustration began. Bought an igo 3 and some juice from a local store that just opened up Tasted like burnt strawberries. Hubbie complained of the bad smell, but he complains about cigarettes also. Since I live in the middle of nowhere northern Ontario. No other places I know of around here have anything. I decided to order online. From a place with great reviews. Stuff came in and all went well aside from being unable to inhale without coughing my lungs out, smell was way better then burnt strawberries though. then Got a delicious mouthful of liquid. Back to the original store to get more clearomizers. I believe they are called c4 or c5.. Well now even with 3 different clearomizers I'm getting mouthful of liquid or nothing at all. Sorry to be so negative on my first post, I just thought wow this may actually work and I'm just so very frustrated and honestly I don't want to give up just yet. I have ordered new clearomizers online but in the meantime am I doing something wrong? How can both igo batteries and three clearomizers be bad? Not just out of the mouth, between bottom of clear and batterers as well. Thanks for your time and if any of you have had a rough start in vaping it would make me feel better to know I'm not alone. :?:

I dare say that everyone goes through this at first. It's seems to me that so many shops are just out to make the buck and don't educate people properly about vaping. I guess it's a learning experience and I went through it too. I had CE4s to start out and besides the plastic eventually cracking and leaking juice everywhere, they just couldn't keep the wick moist and it would burn as I tried to vape the dry wick. I think you got burnt wick and then over filled juice into the burnt wick and inhaled. ALWAYS AVOID DRINKING YOUR E-JUICE. Seriously.

Don't despair!

All of your vaping gear should be rebuildable. Glass (pyrex / quartz) or stainless tanks. You can learn how to repair them. It's cheaper, more eco-friendly and you get better vapes! Don't buy batteries that are all encased in plastic and metal. They will eventually die and become recycle junk. Invest in a hardware mechanical mod or an APV (advanced personal vaporizer). Shop around like crazy before you buy. There are some good deals on hardware out there. Especially, if you are willing to wait 2-3 weeks from a China / Philla shipment. You will save more in the long run. Also, do not buy batteries from unknown suppliers (eBay). You need the best batteries you can get (ideally 30A high drain / no protection). Clean all of your new hardware in Everclear to remove oils from manufacturing.

I am just learning to build atomizer coils, but have been rebuilding my mini pro tanks for months. I am getting huge flavorfull vapes off of these little pyrex clearomizers, only because I have been able to rebuild them. It takes about 15 minutes each.

My advice is to poke around a lot on you tube and see what other people have tried and then try some stuff and see what works for you.

Most importantly, don't buy anything that cannot be rebuilt. You can't go wrong then.

Oh, and steep your juice if it needs it. =)

Best of luck to you!

Perhaps those just aren't the toppers for you. At lower price points, I've had a lot of success with the Evods and the Aerotank (a little pricier!). For the juice in the mouth, well, that's just too much suction... Insert laugh now! Seriously, try slower draws. As for the burnt taste, could just be that because of heavy suction, your wick no longer delivers juice to the coil at the end of the draw, contributing a burnt taste. Let us know how things go!

You may be sucking too hard. You have to use a slow and gentle draw. I recently got my dad started vaping and he was having that problem. If he slowed down and concentrated on not sucking so hard the leaking problem corrected itself. Welcome to ECF! Don't get discouraged. Vaping is well worth the effort that it sometimes takes at first to learn what will work for you. You might also check out some of the stickies in the new members info. Here's a link.

One thing is the inhale for vaping is different than smoking. The one where you tried to cough up a lung? Well, see, in smoking we all do a deep inhale to draw the smoke into the lungs as that's the primary place the nicotine is absorbed. The first time I tried vaping, I like to choked myself. :)

In vaping, the nic is absorbed primarily in the mouth and nasal passages. It's a more shallow inhale. More like "puffing" a pipe maybe. Slow it down, draw into the mouth, don't try inhaling into your lungs, blow the vapor out (some do a nasal exhale, that's a matter of taste and preference).

You're probably drawing too hard and too fast. A draw in vaping is more... oh... relaxed? Especially as you say some of the juice was pulled into your mouth. A draw on a cig is "harder" to help combust the tobacco. Vape devices, the battery does the work.

After a year and change, I can inhale deep as I care to now but never went back to a lung inhale. Your lungs don't have taste buds and you don't pick up much nic in the lungs with vapor (the way you do with smoking). But at first, I did a regular draw like with a cig and tried to cough up a lung.

Try "puffing" a while. Draw evenly and unhurried into the mouth. Maybe hold a bit, taste the flavor(s), blow out the vapor. Don't draw into your lungs. At least not now.

Some do. They like to mimic the deep inhale like smoking. But many find their lungs have hissy fits over vapor. It IS water vapor after all and lungs get testy about water. :)

My inhale is deeper than when I started but isn't anything like when I smoked. It's more like pipe smoking I guess. Never saw the need to return to a deep, smoker style inhale. Lungs don't got taste buds after all.

The leaking problem is because plastic kit can't stand the pressure.

So I think it is the right time to change the equipment. C4 or c5 is just for you to taste the flavor of juice. Also, The tryout of juice is a good chioce for the new buyer.

The next step is improve the flavor of juice and choose the right equipment. Like the 2nd floor says, the rebuildable equipment is a good way to go.

If you don't want to pay to much on the equipment, the secend hand mechanical mod or the China shipment mod is a good chioce. But batteries are very important, so the more expensive, the safer. Don't save money on batteries. For the clearomizers, it is nice to match your mod. I hate the match of bad color. At last, hope you will get fun from vaping.

I had a rough go at it when I first started. I had a small eGo and a faulty tank (I don't know all the lingo yet and not sure of the precise names of what I first started with). With my first start up though, the juice was leaking between the battery and tank and was not even producing vapor. I felt like a failure! It was the second tank I had tried. But I found a somewhat local shop for me...I live in the middle of nowhere too. The nice man at the shop set me up with an eGo-C Twist and an Aspire clearomizer and it works great. I was totally shocked when I first inhaled it because it was actually a pleasurable experience compared to my first!

Anyway, just wanted to share my small experience with you. I hope it all goes well for you and you find something to actual works! Good luck!

Don't give up! As a beginner I am having loads of success with the Kanger AeroTank mini. There were a few dumb spills & a few times where I actually had to look at YouTube tutorials to even figure out what I was doing, but hey, trial & error will teach you! My first juice was just... Disgusting... I'm shocked that the woman in the store even let me leave with that stuff! I tried a friend's juice & found my all day vape pretty quickly! Liking the juice was really important for me to stick with it.
Also, I'm in a big city, so there are loads of stores around for this, but they got me HARD in the pocket. Now that I know what to look for, I'll most likely order from Fast Tech (china) and just endure the long shipping times to save money.

Stay with it! Find your setup & your juice and et voila! You will smoke way less cigs almost immediately!

I'm not sure about other shops, but the shop in my town is very willing to educate and even teach you how to build a safe coil for your battery.
They don't want their customers blowing up!
But as the weeks go by i see my shop turning more and more into money hungry, but what business doesn't when they make over $50k in the first week they're open?

My first setup was zmax smoke with an iclear30s.. the mod was ok at first but the tanks where horrable with leaking issues. After that I purchased and aerotank and then the zmax smoke started having firing button issues. After that I started researching around and found out the mod I was sold was pure garbage and the vape shop was just selling it to make a buck. After that I got an MVP and my problems disappeared until the air control valve on the aero started to pop off. Once I gave up on the aerotank I found the nautilis and I was happy. The nautilus is still in rotation however I sold my MVP to a buddy who started vaping and he loves it. At first things seems like it is working against you but I recommend reading the forum and see what others are raving about. I have been reading this forum for more than a year now and I finally got off my .... and registered. I should have done it along time ago....

keep on trying and never give up cause analogs suck. Your health is worth it to keep trying until you find the right setup!

Hi, Dakota

I had a very similar starting experience. It turned out the batteries ... both of them ... in my starter kit were bad. I discovered this when I tried direct dripping, in my attempt to stop the e-liquid getting into my mouth.

I could see, then, that the battery was firing only once every 6 or so times. So, first off, listen when you vape. Do you hear crackling, like water dancing on a hot pan? That is the battery firing and working. When the battery doesn't fire, the liquid does not vapourize, and each drag you take sucks up liquid. If your kit came with 3 parts: battery + atomizer + cartridge or drip tip, then remove the cartridge so you can see the inside of the atomizer ... the middle section ... and drip 3 or 4 drops on the foam blob you see in the atomizer. Then press the start button and see if anything happens ... does it hiss a bit? If your battery is automatic, put an empty cartridge on the atomizer, suck and listen, then quickly remove the cartridge and see if there is any vapour ... steam ... inside the atomizer.

If your kit is just a clearomizer, then listen carefully when you vape ... and feel the area where the clearomizer joins the battery. Do some vapes close together and feel if the connection area gets quite warm. (Put a tissue, like a Kleenex, over the mouth piece to keep the liquid out of your mouth in case the battery doesn't fire).

I'm sending you a Private Message.

On ebay, the Kanger Protank 2 is $10.98 including shipping. It comes with the beauty ring & 2 coils. A 1600 mah Vision Spinner is &17.95 including shipping & the ego charger you already have will work just fine. They both ship from the US. This pair will last all day quite easily, easy to fill, come with instructions and are dependable. They will make you a great starter !!! I'm not selling ANYTHING !!! Just sharing my experience.

If I had to do it all over again, I started with a mod/coil building thing and got eGo's for Ed ^^ I'd go MVP and a Kanger Protank2 or Nautilus tank.

but for the NOW ...those little plastic clearomizer's we had a couple and have since given them to friends to get them started, but you have to draw really slowly...think less hurricane more like slow southern breeze or you're sucking juice.

Sorry you're having such difficulties, this is doable, and enjoyable if you've got the right gear too..and even then they have issues at time, these forums, and YouTube is your go to for that kind of info, when I'd google a problem it'd show up here on the list...and there's a YouTube video for about every product out there reviews, repairs, etc.

Good luck and keep on vaping!!!!

Several people here have said exactly what I would, but as there are some posts that I think would be confusing for someone new I thought I'd try and add weight to the sensible posts.

Sounds like the problem is technique. Most importantly, slow gentle draws compared to a tobacco cigarette. Once you've got that working you can experiment more with how you draw. Remember to keep the button pressed while drawing but then release it.

Figure out if the battery actually works, like someone already said, press the button and listen. It should crackle or make some noise. If you're taking draws and not blowing any vapour out then that is a problem. If you keep trying and it only works occasionally then you will suck juice up, which is to be avoided.

Some people here are just recommending new equipment, and if you stick with vaping then you will probably soon want some better tanks at least but unless the equipment you have doesn't work then just see how you get on with what you have for now. We all have to walk before we run.

The most succesful vaper in my family, from 30+ cigs per day to zero, still uses ego batteries and CE4/5 clearomisers after a year, he's never bothered with more sophisticated/expensive kit and you don't have to either. Regarding juice in the mouth, you're not getting fluid into the center tube, are you? Best wishes with switching to vape. Persist and you'll save a shedful of money, at least until your government taxes e-juice the same as tobaco.......

Thank you all so much for the replies and tips. Silly me paid 8$ for c4 and 13 for c5. 150 for igo kit. Which as I've now researched I could have gotten way better stuff for the $$ I've spent. We live we learn right? I'll see how the new clear I just ordered work and save up for something else. I'd like to get the hang of all this before I try rebuilding anything though. I so much appreciate that some of you have told me how you had trouble in the begining
