I have a few apvs. My only mechanical mod is a silver bullet I use at 6 volts with a dct tank. I love it. So besides these high end mods like the panzer, nemisis, gsm, which all look great.do they perform that much better? And y? I see you tube videos on them from people like rip trippers and they vapor is amazing! !!is it because he is using a kick in the mod?or are the rbas giving that great performance with just the battery and no kick? ??really want to take the leap and get one. Thanks

For many I think the attraction is that the mechs don't have the built in protection so you can use sub-ohm coil builds. In my case (and others I imagine) I appreciate the simplicity and lack of circuitry that can fail. You can easily find a good mech (clone or otherwise) for $50 or under that performs well and is virtually indestructable.

It's not just the quality control - a lot of my better mechs use uprated firing pins, fuses/springs, whatever. That allows you to use very low Ohm coils and not have a component fail such as a 10A switch or an 8A rated hotspring. They just use better, costlier components.

They are also easier to repair than those things on a Silver Bullet. I still like my SB - it still works just fine and was the first mod i got after dumping cigalikes. The purists will tell you it is not a "true" mechanical since there is a wire - but it's a great device.

Mech mods don't "do" anything other than provide a connection to an atomizer and a switch for turning the current on/off. The so called "high end" mods don't necessarily mean you are going to have a better vape. The vape you get is mostly a result of the wick and coil you use. Some mods have a lower "voltage drop" allowing them deliver power to the atomizer more efficiently but this doesn't mean that a more inexpensive mod can't have a low voltage drop.

That being said, what we call "high end" mods are usually made by people with reputations in the community and in limited amounts. They usually sell out very quickly and are sometimes even hard to get your hands on. The ones I've had experience with tend to have a more premium finished feel to them. The switches feel smoother and better made.

Almost everything you can buy, you buy with the option of getting a cheaper one or a more expensive one. Mods cost what people are willing to pay for them and that's it. A Rolex watch doesn't keep time any better than a $35 Casio.

There are great clone mech mods and there are bad high-end mods. Assuming you have a good high-end mod, though . .the machining should be better, the finish should be nicer, the materials used might be better, etc. There are definitely inexpensive mech mods out there that perform awesome - but there are also tons with crappy, crunchy threads and fire buttons . .made of flimsy material, etc.

Case in point . .I have a brass sentinel clone that I got for $20. It had good performance in terms of voltage drop . .but the switch was annoying as the lockout ring would always unscrew itself and come loose. If you didn't hit the button in the center, sometimes it would misfire. Then it rolled off an end table and broke in half. Yep . .metal tube broke in half.

My primary ecig is a device I have in my hands *a lot* so I can see the value in having good looks and feel, smooth switches, etc. But I'm cheap so I have a bunch of cheap mods and no nice ones, lol.

A good quality mech mod simply is built to last and work forever.
That's the meaning of performance for a mech mod.

With common regulated battery tube, sooner or later the electronics is going to fail; but probably before that has a chance to happen, a button might stop working; maybe some threads will get stripped because its made from soft brass/platedcopper and not stainless steel; maybe some metal contact will get rusty and fail electrically.

Now if you look at a beast like the itaste 134 which is a regulated mod, the thing I like about it is I figure if I had one, and the electronics did fail, I'd probably be able to rip the electronics out and use it as an indestructible mech mod!

All good advice. I think I'm going to start with a mid priced one from vapor royalty I think it is. They carry hcigar clone mods.i would try fasttech. But I hear too many scary things about some of their stuff. But I will try a few of their rba clones and see how it goes since I'm new to rebuilding coils don't want to ruin an expensive piece cuz idid something wrong.

High end mods really just mean "not a Chinese copy".
Performance has more to do with materials/hardware and utility design.

I have a 26$ brass King clone that came with silver plated contacts.
I got lucky and quality is above par (seems to happen a lot with the clones I buy).
It stomps many mods performance wise, clone or "high end" original.

Pay attention to build quality, type of metals used in construction and hardware, and then be sure it's a solid functional design.
Hype and price (high end) doesn't really matter.
