Whats going on ECF,
I just bought a Caliber by Chris Creations rba and have a few questions about coil building.
I plan on building a "micro coil" for my first, since they seem a lot easier and I have researched that they are better as well.
I am using a GLV-2 5v regulated mod.
I see a lot of people using very low ohm setups with RBAs, in the 1.3-1.8 range, and was wondering if that is acceptable on a GLV-2?
I have only used tank systems thus far, and buy my coils in the 2.2-2.6 ohm range.
Do I need to build a coil that is also in the 2.2-2.6 range for this type of mod?
I heard it is something like 13/14 wraps on a 1/16 drill bit using 30g Kanthal wire...that seems like it would be a big coil, especially using a slimmer profiled RBA like the Caliber. (I do plan on using a multimeter, I was just researching as much as I can to get an idea)

Sorry if this is a noob questions, but I am a noob to this type of setup.
Thanks for the help!:)

Thanks for the tip. I usually use 2.2-2.6 no problem, and like the flavor and hit with a tank system. Is it different with an RBA?
I already purchased the 30g since that is what everyone says a beginner should start out with...so I am going to need a GIANT coil in other words, which will make heating up the coil take much longer if I am not mistaken..

The voltage you use for a good vape, you determine what a good vape is to you, is somewhere between 3.3V to 4.5V (Maybe slightly higher with a higher resistance coil).

I run 99% of the tanks I use with a 1.4 to 1.8 coil. With that resistance I find my voltage is always around 3.3 to 3.8 volts.

To get that resistance on the Kayfun's I have I use either a 3/32 or a #39 (.0995") drill bit with 8 to 9 wraps of 28g Kanthal A1 wire.

For slightly higher resistances I would use a thinner wire, 29 or 30 gauge and for resistances in the upper 2-3 ohm range I'd probably use 32g kanthal.

Like everything in vaping it is subjective and personal preferences.

Remember that when "most" start out with 30ga. they are not using it at 5v.

On my micros I use 28 gauge 6 wraps on a 3/4 inch drill bit then compress the coil and torch it during compression. This gives me a 1.0 ohm to 1.2 ohm coil. Works great. Hope this helps. You might consider watching some you tube coil building videos before you begin. Hope this helps and best wishes

Thanks for the tip! I have been watching countless videos on wrapping micro coils and I think I have it down for the most part. I guess I will find out in a few days just how good I am at it lol

Do I run a risk of anything if I don't make a coil in the high 2-3ohm range with the mod I am using? I don't need anything "exploding in my face" the first time I try to make one of these things lol.

I wish I bought a lower gauge wire now, but being in the military and deployed in Germany there are not many options for me and I already ordered 20ft of kanthal 30g from OKCvapes. If I must I will order a different size wire, but it is definitely not convenient.

Is it safe to run a 1.4-1.8 coil on a glv-2 5v? Or is that just way too low for a mod like this? I have successfully ran a 1.5ohm wick on a tank system before with no problems.

No matter what resistance you make your coil it won't Explode in your face. If you make it to low hopefully your Mod won't fire, most have some type of protection built in so you can't fire a coil that surpasses the limits of the Mod.

Don't have and have never seen one of those Mods. Looking at it I personally would never buy one. To limited.

It seems it has some type of regulation to deliver the same wattage to the atty attached based on the resistance of the coil. What that wattage is the seller does state or not that I can find.

Personally I'd run down to whatever local Vape Shop there is around you and buy a eGo style battery.

I am pretty sure there is a protection device inside my mod, and it is regulated to stay at 5vs constantly.
Really? Great Lakes Vapor have a great reputation and their mods are indestructible, quite a few people have them.

I have an ego style battery that I can use, but it hits no where near as good as my glv but maybe I will use it to get a hang of building the coils.

Thank you everyone for the advice!

I hope that's a typo. That is a huge coil. :?::vapor:
