Hi everyone,

I am a fairly new vaper/ex-smoker, been vaping for a couple months now. Started off with a zig-zag branded, ego style battery that came with a ce4 and a couple flavours of chinese liquid purchased at a gas station during a trip in the states. Little did I know I'd be kicking a bad habit and picking up an all encompassing hobby. I've picked up an assortment of clearo's as time has gone on and been sampling as many liquids as I can, been reading about building coils and thinking how ridiculous it sounded to then ordering rda's. Needless to say I have a fasttech addiction. For us up in Canada with the knowledge of what things cost south of the border and from china, you really have to hunt around for a good price on certain items locally. Hope to learn a lot on these forums and add what I can!

As the title mentioned, I do need some help. One of the first clearo's I picked up was an Aspire Vivi Nova-S, even after picking up some much more expensive tanks I have to say it's a great tank, or was...I killed the coil in it recently and as with my et-s, thought a coil swap was a no brainer. I swapped the coil out with a new authentic bdc, let it set for a few minutes and instantly got burnt flavor. This was more then a little burnt, toasted. So I assumed it was a bad coil and threw another new one in there. Same thing happend. As the et-s and vivi nova-s share coils, I put the second coil in my et-s and tried it there, it was fine. Any ideas? Im totally confused on something that's so simple.

Hi Graham and welcome.

Two scenarios are possible:

1) You didn't let the coil head absorb enough eliquid to get is going. Priming the coil, especially the Aspire BDC, is critical--that coil is wrapped in a layer of wicking material, almost like a cartomizer, and if that filler is not fully saturated before you start vaping, you'll get a nasty dry hit.

2) You got a bad coil(s). That has been a common complaint here with Aspire BDC--very poor QC. I myself got an Aspire ET-S and got a dry hit after a few minutes of vaping, even though I primed the coil and allowed plenty of time for the eliquid to penetrate the filler. The combination of very tight draw and poor quality is a dangerous proposition. I've heard of people enlarging air holes on their ET-S clearomizers and noticing improvement.

Could be the difference of that extra .5ml to 1ml space the Nova-S has over the ET-S. Katya brought up a good point, there a difference in air flow, the Nova looser or tighter in air draw compared to the ET-S?? Next question would be, how thick in percentage the liquid in Nova compared to the ET-S? Try this priming strategy as well with the BDC and BVC aspire heads, drop of liquid on each inlet hole on the barrel, then couple drops in the center, and then before firing take about 3-6 puffs, then gently break the coil and wick in by starting with a couple 2 second fires, couple 3 second fires, etc up to full vape firing time.

A local Vaping store has been selling ET-S and Vivi Novas (now with the BVC coils) to new customers.

The 'old' customers bought ET-S instead of Vivi Nova because of the problems you report. I don't understand it exactly, but the best option might be to try a BVC in the Vivi Nova and if it works, save the bother of a frustrating investigation as to why the two are markedly different in performance/reliability.

The BDC needs a good flow of liquid. Without it, it's no good.

IMFire3605: The Nova is looser then the et-s, which is the confusing part. I will try your method of priming it though and see what happens.

The liquid in it now is a 70pg/30vg, which I cant imagine ever causing an issue. Especially as its the same brand and mix as the last full tank that went from top to bottom flawlessly.

Thanks

Highlighted what I am seeing as the possible problem in yellow. A loser air draw could potentially not allow enough suction to pull juice in fast enough, but with a 70pg/30vg viscosity liquid there really shouldn't be that issue being so thin. I'm going to have to agree with the above post about using the BVC (Bottom Vertial Single Coil) Aspire heads in the Nova instead of the BDC head. They look quite similar but the last BVC heads I seen in hand myself have 4 juice inlet holes instead of 2, which might help with wicking better.

BVC installed, primed as per instruction, and vaping like a champ.

Thanks for all the help.

So, I started vaping on the tank again, it was gurgling away. Took it off, wet on the bottom. Two things I tried, a new BVC and putting the same coil in an et-s. The new coil is still gurgling in the vivi and the old(new today bvc) worked fine in the et-s. Can anyone see any reason not to chuck the vivi in the trash? It's not worth the headache at this point...

btw, et-s with bvc, awesome. I will update this if I find otherwise.
