New to the forum and mechanical mods

Hi All,

I'm new to the forum and wanted to get a post up to say hello and see if anyone has some advice. I quit smoking cigarettes after 13 years of smoking and started out with a Vamo V5 and Kanger Protank 2. Great setup and worked well for me.

Last weekend I took the dive into the world of mechanical mods and now own a good Nemesis clone with an IGO-W5. I really am loving the experience and I want to learn everything I can about my mod. If any of you have any suggested readings to learn more about my mod and any good info in general let me know. Thanks and happy vaping!

Make sure you read up on battery safety, Baditude has a great blog entry on the subject. Also download the ohm law calculator for a smart phone to help calculate your amps to ensure you are within safe limits of your batteries if you decide sub-ohm. Also get yourself an volt/ohm meter to check your builds and battery voltage.

Otherwise, practice your builds and enjoy. :toast:

Hello and welcome!:)

+1 on everything Despraci said. Some of this you may know, and some of it may be new. And since I don't see Baditude (our resident battery expert) around tonight, Ill quote him"
"Read up. It's homework time!":toast:

1. Batteries, Chargers and Multi-Meters Forum !
2. Rebuildable Atomizer Systems
3. Baditude's Blogs

If you click on my signature line, the Steam-Engine is a great app for your "coil building" toolbox.

Look forward to seeing you around.

Thanks everyone, I am currently vaping on 2.4 to 3.0 ohm builds. I wanted a nice strong flavor to my vape and this is definitely delivering. My local mod guru suggested I stick to that ohm level.

I have my trusty ohm meter already and will definitely take a look at all these links for reading. Really appreciate the help and advice.

hmm, wasn't aware of the battery safety issues. Im running my magneto with a .24ohm build with a purple efest 18350. No wonder why it gets scorching hot after 10 hits. The wrapper is all brown on the bottom, but the vape shop I got it from told me the purple batteries will handle any load.

Are there any 18350 batteries that will handle more than 10 hits for a .2 ohm coil??

No. Stop and start researching. Your activity is dangerous.

I would look into Sony VTC5 batteries. They are 2600 mah and 30 amp limit. You want to buy from a reputable source because some are fake out there and batteries are the last thing you want to go cheap.

Dangerman - Did the vape shop make that build for you? And they let you walk out the shop like that?
Without looking it up those purple Efest batteries are rated for 10A and your current build with a fresh battery is pulling around 16A.

No, they told me best way to learn is via riptripper vids on youtube. They recommended that battery though when I told them I want something small that will fire a .2ohm coil but told me I would have to keep throwing them away after they get too big to fit back in my mod.

Would be nice to have a battery made of thicker metal.

WT.... Is this shop promoting? Use a battery that can't handle the load and only stop using it before it goes into thermal runaway and vents? Why on goes green earth would anybody recommend using a 18350 battery for a .24 sub ohm build?

I am speechless at this shops complete lack of reasonability and possible liability to dangerous advice.

You need to stop doing what you are doing and read the links above and learn ohms law before you continue to sub ohm. Then you can do it safely and go back to the shop and inform them that what they are recommending is dangerous and speak intelligently on the matter, and probably with more knowledge then them.

They did warn me the batteries will eventually blow out, but 18350s are not strong enough to pierce your mod. I already had 1 blow with no damage to my mod, and other turned to goo when I took it out. the one I'm using now is probably ready to burst, so will have to throw that one away soon. Still got a few more fresh one to tide me over until I find better ones.

Well, you've certainly chosen a screen name that suits your activities. Dangerman indeed!

Please, if you are not worried about your own safety, for the sake of those around you, put down that mod and learn about battery safety.

Susan~S posted 3 good links to get you started.
