Hey everyone. Been reading posts on this forum for a few days now. Just got my 510 in the mail yesterday and love it! I have already cut back on regular smokes dramatically.

I do have a quick question though: How often should I be refilling my cartridge? The kit I got came with no instructions. I can't tell when the absorbent filler is tapped out or full. Is there something I should be looking for in the way of taste, look or feeling to know that it needs a refill? I don't want to overdo it!

Anyway, just wanted to say hi thank everyone for creating such a great resource for us noobs!

Welcome jm999. Cutting back on the smokes is such a good thing. Your body will thank you!
Refilling depends on your vaping habit. Take the cart off, does it look a little dry? Has the vapor dropped off? Do you not feel like you are getting a decent hit? Has flavor dropped? Do you sense a change in the taste?
Drip a a few drops, while doing this put a toothpick or an opened paperclip down between the filler and plastic cart. This helps the filler absorb juice by creating some airflow. If your unit gurgles when you hit it, you have overfilled the cart. You can vape through this or you can dab the top of your cart with a tissue to remove some juice. You want the top of the filler to be glossy, not pooling with e-juice. When I used carts, I had to top off often. I was a heavy vaporer and have cut back some-LOL.

I've noticed the amount of vapor I'm getting drops off as I run low on fluid or charge. I pull off the cartridge check to see if it looks damp and if not I add 2-3 drops. If it is damp then a puff or two later my battery starts flashing showing that I need to put it on charge. I refill my carts and charge my batteries pretty often as I've been "chain-vaping" since I started.

I started reducing my nicotine levels from the 36 I started at almost immediately (I'm at 18 now within a month). This has kept me chain-vaping I think since I stopped using analogs. If you start to feel a little queezy you are probably over-doing your nicotine, lay off for a while (an hour or so usually does it for me). Maybe consciously try to reduce how long you are vaping if you feel it is too much. If you still feel the need to vape to avoid an analog and you are feeling that you are overdoing the vaping, maybe try a lower nicotine dose that way you are still able to vape without overdoing the nicotine?

Thanks for the info everyone! I've been trying not to chain vape but its tough as I work from home and its so tempting when I'm just sitting here at the desk!

@Nlvapour :
I like the 501 quite a bit. I'm brand new to this whole thing, but it is extremely close to the real thing. I haven't tried any other models yet. I was turned on to the 501 by a friend who let me try it out. My friend had a manual battery which let him "charge" the drag before hand. I accidentally ordered an automatic battery which you have to puff on a few times before getting a good solid drag (unless I'm doing it wrong!)

yes, the manual battery is killer, unless you really want a stealty analog look a like.

I would suggest getting an ego or riva. About double the cost for a similar kit, but now I dont have to constantly charge batteries. With a pack a day smoker, you really need about 4-5 chaged batteries with a 510. With my ego, One charge in one battery lasts pretty much all day until I get home, but I always carry my charged ego spare battery with me. If you need cheap, the 510 is great.

If you feel the 510 batteries are not lasting long enough-look at some Ego/Riva/Hello batteries with 900 mAh and up. These batteries last much longer before having to recharge. They work with 510 atomizers.
You would have to buy the specific battery charger to use with them.

Here is a model specific link for you to read up on the 510.

It took me about 2 weeks to completely get away from analog cigarettes. I smoked for about 16 years and up to the point of getting into vaping was smoking a pack or more a day. I have several different models of PV's and run both cartomizers and atomizers. I make my own juice and each flavor vapes different in various hardware. (I like buffets for the variety...same with the vaping flavors...LOL).

But anyway, as far as refill frequency I tend to top off just as the flavor starts to drop off. Once you taste that dry atty on a high volt unit you tend to make sure that never happens again...LOL.

Just starting off? Go 510. Similar to an analog cigarette in looks and feel as far as devices go and they're easy. Also, read read read. These forums are great for the sheer amount of information.
I actually started off on a pair of 4081's (their popularity has tanked) and still use them to this day. Great for shoving in your pocket with decent battery life.
