New to vaping, having some stomach issues, should I switch to 100% VG?

Hey Everybody!

How's it going? I'm fairly new to vaping, been doing it for almost a month now, and this past week I started to have some stomach issues (loss of appetite, some nausea, stomach pains, etc.). I've read some things on these forums that the PG could be causing some of the stomach distress and that people that had stomach issues with the PG felt completely fine after they switched to 100% VG liquid. However, I've also seen some people post saying that the 100% VG liquid gave them some gnarly stomach issues as well, so just feeling confused now. I've vaped a very small amount the past couple days (maybe about 5 hits per day) and I'm feeling a lil bit better. I also vape at 12mg, which seems to be a fairly small amount so I'm not sure if that's the issue. I've ordered a couple of 15ml bottles from heathersheavenlyvapes.com of the 100% VG to give it a try, but if it was the PG that was causing the problem will the VG also give me stomach problems? Just thought I would post this to see what people thought. I hope to hear from ya'll soon and have a good one!

I'd second that, it's almost definitely the nicotine; I have the same exact symptoms from nic OD -- but 3mg might be too low; try 6mg, which is one of the "default" levels that it's very easy to find. I started with 6mg after I figured out that 18mg was too strong, and 12mg was too strong for the chain-vaping I was doing. I'm now vaping almost 12mg, about 11.5mg, but I'm doing that so I don't need to vape so much, it's better for my lungs. Now that I've been off the smokes for a while, that works for me, but at the beginning I really needed to chain-vape.

PG/VG can cause problems with throat, airways, breathing, but not so much with digestive/stomach issues.

I only started vaping a few weeks ago, and can only go by my experience (and a lot of reading). But I did have an asthma inhaler years ago that gave me the same problems you're describing. I had forgotten all about it until I started to vape and used a juice with 70pg/30vg in it and had the same stomach issues and nausea as when I used the inhaler. The shop I got it from said it may be too much nicotine, but I only bought 6mg bottle, and that was not helping the cigarette cravings either. Then I remembered the inhaler I used years ago gave me the same issues, and thought I'd try a 80vg/20pg blend that had 12mg of nicotine and I haven't had the stomach/feeling nausea issue since. I can say the loss of appetite was still the same after switching to the 80/20 blend for me, but that went away after about a week of vaping.

Thanks SteamTurbine and JustMeB for the insight also!

I have also been under a massive amount of stress lately so that could be contributing too. And in response to JustMeB, it looks like the higher VG percentage juice is working for you?

Yes, the higher VG percentage is working for me thankfully! I haven't had any issues with feeling sick since I switched to a 80vg/20pg blend.

Thanks for all the awesome advice, everyone! Greatly appreciated :). I'm still not feeling any better, but the 100%VG liquid at 6mg I ordered should be getting in the mail soon, I hope that helps. Also another thing I've been considering is tapering off on the nicotine levels. I still want to vape because I enjoy it, but eventually get down to no nic in my e-juice. What would be a suggested timeline for that?

This is a fairly common problem, but it should resolve itself. Are you a former smoker? I know when I got into vaping, after smoking analogs for 25 years, it took my body about 3 or 4 months to get completely cleaned out. I had the same stomach issues you describe, but it completely went away, in time. You just need to find out what works best for you. Sure, it could be a reaction to PG; maybe not. Experiment with some different juices; try some 6mg, some 8mg, and try different PG/VG ratios. Good question! I'm Vapin' in So Cal (CASAA Member).

Wow....sorry this is unrelated to your stomach issues.
I just read the posts from folks saying 18mg and even 12mg juice was too much nic.
I started on 24mg and chain vaped.....once I got over the missing cigarette syndrome, I switched to 18 and that is where I have been for almost 5 years..

I tried a lower dose once, and it didn't really do anything for me.
I lost my throat hit and had to chain vape with 2 batteries just to keep from wanting an analog......

Hope you get it worked out... :) :vapor:

It's not at all unrelated, because for some people, those nic levels (18 and 12) are high enough to cause serious nausea -- they did for me. Nowadays I can handle 11-12mg with WTA, because I don't chain vape, but when I started, I had to chain vape to get over the cigarette cravings, and the only level that worked for that kind of chain vaping was 6mg. 24mg would probably have put me into the hospital with hyperemesis.
