Hello everybody! I've been lurking here for the past 3 weeks or so, starting my adventure into vaping for the second time. The first time I started vaping was about 2 and 1/2 years ago. When I smoked cigarettes, I always rolled my own and used mostly good quality additive free tobacco. I couldn't stand smoking anything out of a normal pack, it would actually make my lungs hurt and taste horrible and stale! I think this made the transition into vaping easier for me. This forum is where I went to when I heard that e-cigs actually existed, although I don't like referring to them as that way now, because I think it is very different from smoking.

What I got back then were the joye 510s. They were small and in a similar size to a regular cigarette, with the ends even lighting up. It came with 2 atomizers and 5 pre-filled cartridges. I ordered with it some extra blank cartridges and other small sampler liquids to try out. The original liquids in the pre-filled carts were tobacco flavored but tasted more like raisins to me, but that was no problem. I fell in love with the whole idea of vaping but I had so many technical problems.

I could never get the atomizer to work properly. If I had one of the original pre-filled carts on, it worked with no problems for a while. Everything else seemed like hit or miss. Every time I filled another cart it would either flood or be too dry. I would either get gurgling or a dry burned taste. I spent hours on this forum trying to find different things to do with it. I used pyramid tea bags in my carts and it would sometimes work, but it still felt very random whether it would work or not. I spent way more time taking it apart and trying to get it to work properly than I did in just vaping!

I even tried dripping on them and other atomizers with similar results. I tried cleaning them and dry burning them and all sorts of other tricks, just looking for a consistant vape. Honestly, the time I spend fiddling around with it and having it not work is the one reason I quit with it altogether, and just tapered down my nicotine and smoked nothing for over 2 years.

When I started college up again, though, I started smoking again. Only for a few months. But I found myself smoking more and more, and going from 3 cigs a day to 11-12, so I decided to try vaping again.

Wow! Things have certainly changed! There is so much more out there, and for the cost of the setup I had before, I got something much better!

I decided to get a kGO set and I am loving it!! I started with 11-12 mg nic on the juices and was able to stop cigs almost immediately. Haven't had any for 3 weeks! I'm using boge LR cartomizers with it, and getting the consistency I would have killed for back then! I'm almost scared of trying out atomizers again because of the bad results I've had before. I remember one time I was dripping one flavor and tried to clear it out to try another. The second one I used was an RY4 and for some reason every time I used that atty everything would taste like a kind of disgusting burnt mustard, even if I tried to clean it! So I was wondering, how do you sample different flavors? I've been using separate cartomizers for all of my samples, but even though they're cheap I end up having just a left over cart after the juice I've completely finished, or putting juice in a carto just to find out I don't like it. I'm paranoid about dripping on an atty because of the nasty mingled flavor taste I've had before. I realize I probably did it wrong and I understand there is a learning curve to all of this!

Also, with the cartos, I'm wondering about how to fill them the best. I've blown through several cartos trying different flavors and I don't mind it since I figured it would take a while to get the technique down. I'm trying to top them off regularly. At first I thought I was refilling them too much only to burn out some by letting them run too dry. Now I'm dripping into the filler whenever the top is dry, usually about 5-8 drops each time to get it fully saturated again. But I've noticed that when I top it off this way sometimes it gets almost flooded, as in the first few drags will be lighter and when I unscrew the battery there will be some juice on it. If I blow the excess out usually the top becomes dry again. Is there an exact technique to this?

As a general rule how many ml of fluid should my carto be able to go through before it dies? I've already used 1 that started to taste off and I started with a new one. The first went though about 5ml before tasting bad and this one I'm on now is at around 10ml and I think it may be starting to go. Sometimes if I get too much juice in it and blow the excess out the first few drops that come out are much darker. It's definitely crackling a lot less when I'm using it, and starting to get a slightly different taste, almost the metallic taste when I've had other ones go bad.

I'm really interested in trying out tanks but if the cartos last the same amount of time, it almost seems like too much work because I don't mind having to top them off. Does it make the cartos last longer? Is the flavor better? Will better cartos than the Boge LR's last longer? I've looked at the clearomizers also but I haven't tried it out yet.

Everyone here is so nice and I'm really looking forward to posting on the rest of the forums and giving reviews on the other juices I've tried out so far. Thanks so much for reading this.

Welcome and I'm glad you found your way back to vaping. I got tired of all that topping off and burnt carto stuff and moved to clearos, never looked back. Cartos are by far more popular, but if you get tired of them head over to the gotvapes subforum, we will be happy to help you out there.

The best filling method is debatable. My favorite was the condom method, but many will scoff at that and swear the only way to properly fill a carto is to drip. Yes, you should keep them topped off to keep the best flavor and to extend the life. A carto tank will help with that, and cut down on the amount of time you are dripping drops on your carto. (Not speaking from experience with the last part, never tried the tanks.)

Most agree that an atty is the best way to test new juices. I had one but the flavor was never quite right in the particular atty I had. Perhaps someone will guide you to a good atty for testing. I now use old, cleaned clearos with the wicks cut down, and just drip a few drops directly on the coils. Not really an option for you though, since you don't have any old clearos. ;)

How long the carto lasts depends on the type of juice, how much you are using it, how often you top it off, etc... When the flavor starts tasting bad/burnt or performance drops, toss it and start up a new one.

Always remove your carto from the battery to top it off. You can ruin your battery by having juice run down into it or on it. Drip just one or two drops at a time, let that soak in, then one or two more drops, (one drop when it is close to full), until the top looks slushy. Blow it out to make sure the air tube is clear of juice, replace and vape. I usually blow from the bottom out the top, but like every other topic here that is debatable. Some swear it has to be blown from top to bottom.

I think I got all the questions, if I missed any someone will be along to fill in the blanks. :)

Hi & welcome back.
I'm always overfilling my cartos. :(
I found that if I blow them out from the BATTERY end instead of the mouth end, it works better. I use a tissue on the open end and put the threaded end into my mouth, blow easy into the tissue, look thru the mouth end. If I can see light thru the hole, I'm good to vape. If I can't see light thru the hole I repeat. Doesn't seem to waste so much juice that way.
See ya round.

KGO's are good. They are the only 4.2v device besides the Echo in the vast array of EGO Clones. They alone rules as kings of the standard EGOs. That said, you should look into getting yourself an EGO C Twist or two with some vivi nova minis. Answers to your questions can be found here: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/blogs/shoganinja/2998-vapers-handbook.html

P.S. Most standard cartomizers hold ~1.0 to 1.3mg of juice. Usually that amounts to about half a day or less.

Your vape experience mirrors my own. I left vaping briefly due to technical difficulties. When I returned a few months later, technology evolved considerably. Glad you decided to come back.

Unlike yourself, though, I was never interested in tanks. Woke up one morning and (for some reason I can't explain) became obsessed about trying a tank. Really weird. Anyway, I finally got one and I'm finally content. You see, I never really cared for all the fiddling I had to go through to get a proper vape. The fiddling didn't stop until I invested in a quality pv (the Provari). But when I topped the Provari off with a tank it was perfect. I fill my 3ml tank once a day...takes about 30 seconds, if that long...and I'm done. The juice flavor isn't necessarily better, but you get better value from your carto as the tank keeps the filler material wet. The burnt taste we often experience is from trying to vape a dry or dry-ing carto. My cartos last about a week. Carto degradation is subtle. In fact, I don't realize I need to change it until it becomes very obvious performance is off (harder to draw, less vapor, possible signs of leakage).

Anyway, I highly recommend you try a tank. If you're anything like me, you won't go back to vaping without one.

Thanks for your help everyone! I think I will try out some of the clearos and other cartomizers after I go through the stack of ones I have now, and maybe try out one tank. I'm really looking forward to trying out different pvs also, there's so much to try! Right now I've already spent hours browsing shops for different kinds of juices, its addicting! I'm going to do my best to finish up the ones I have first though. At least I'll never be bored!
