So I just started vaping and haven't touched an analog in a week(Yay me!). So I picked up a pack of the BC Phoenix from Gotvapes.com and went and filled up 3 of them with the juice I had available. Two of them worked great and based on those two I was in love with this thing. The third one however, had this horrible burnt taste to it. I did a bit of reading to figure out why and how to fix it so I squeezed the tube until the air bubbles stopped coming out and tried again, which didn't work. I did a couple dry pulls and tried again, still kept getting the burnt taste. I decided to empty out the juice and take the thing apart and the coil that wraps around the wick was black and the wick itself looked burnt. Maybe I did something wrong?

Took another carto, trimmed the wick flush, filled it carefully, squeezed the tub and took a couple dry pulls and I still got that burnt taste. After a couple of tries I emptied out the thing and saw that the coil was starting to darken and the wick starting to brown. I can't figure out why this is happening.

I refilled the second carto with the same juice as the first. Could it be the juice that's the problem?

Also, is there a better carto/clearo that maybe I haven't looked into? I really would prefer something without filling and that I could see how much juice I have left.

I've been using CE3 style cartos for a few months. The only time I get a burned taste is when they finally start to wear out after multiple cleanings. After you fill them, let them "rest" for a few minutes with the battery end down to really wet the wicks. If the liquid doesn't get down to the wick holes, try tapping it gently on about a 45 degree angle on a hard surface a few times to break the "surface tension" of the liquid and get the air out of the wick/atomizer assembly. A burned appearance on the coil itself is just a normal thing, especially if you are using a liquid with sweet or strong flavors.

The rubber cap may have been too close to the heating coil. Try raising the cap to keep it away from the heating coil. Hope this helps

The original poster is asking about a bottom coil clearomizer. Your instructions are for a top coil fluxo.

Try this. Empty out the juice then wiggled off the tube. Raise the center post so it's not pushed down all the way into the bottom coil. Hopefully this will allow more juice to get in to the atomizer. Replace the tube and then replace the top seal. You can use something like a pencil point to center the post.

You may have just gotten a bad one. Chinese QC isn't the best. I've been through 3 boxes of them, and while I've had none like you describe, I have had a couple that the coil died on very quickly. They work real well, but you'll get the occasional dud. If they were American made, the QC would be a lot better, but they'd cost 10 times as much. :)

I have been using these things since they first came out. I've had very few problems with them. One thing I have noticed however, is that once in a while, I'll open one where the ohm rating is off. I always buy the 2.6-2.8 ohm. But I've had a couple that were down around 2.4. I vape on a Provari, so I always check the ohms, and lower the voltage, if I get a low resistance one. The Phoenix BCs don't like high voltage at all. Even with the 2.6-2.8 ones, I never go above 4.2 volts.

I had a Phoenix that started tasting burnt right off the bat. I just "massaged" it and tapped it on my desk, gently, until I was convinced I had all the air out of the atomizer chamber. It's working fine. If you did burn one, I seriously doubt you'll be able to clear that flavor.

Yea, once that wick is burnt like that, even after you get fluid to the coil it probably will still taste like burnt wick.
For general purpose wick maintenance, I've been soaking them with a bit of pg/vg for a few minutes before use (some come in a sealed plastic deal with some juice in there). The fluid may just take a while to get to the coil. I know I killed an atty by dry burning it. Once was all it took.
When some people clean these things in warm water, they "dry burn" the water out a little afterwards, but the wick wasn't dry to begin with after cleaning in water.
I don't see why even a few drips of water couldn't be used to prime the wick just so it doesn't burn the wick on the first burn before the fluid gets to it.
My thoughts anyway. I hope you get it figured out. I'm still on day 6, no cigs! It's worth it!
