Hi just joined the forum and I'm glad to be entering the world of vaping :)
I just received my first set up, a mini protank 3 on a vision Spinner 2 and I think I'm having issues with it unless I'm being a complete newbie.
Basically my issue with it is that it takes a while for the vape to actually start tasting nice, I have to endure multiple harsh almost metallic tasting hits before the flavour and the harshness go away.
Like I said once I get past these hits the vaporiser works great! However if I leave it alone for a while and come back to it, I then have to endure that awful taste once again.
I've tried both a 1.5 ohm and 2 ohm coil on multiple voltages to see if that made any difference, but no change...
Is this normal and what do you guys recommend me trying?
Thanks in advance!
Adam.

hmmm... I have a couple of Protank 3 minis and haven't had any problems. I have heard some complaints about Kanger coil quality being hit or miss. I'm still using the ones that came preinstalled. It could be a wicking problem. Does it sputter and shoot drops of juice into your mouth? If so, I would say the wicks are letting too much juice to the coil. I don't know if you have ever rebuilt a coil or not but it might help.

Oh, and Welcome to the forum!

It does make a sputtering noise after the button has been held for a couple of seconds, but no juice has shot into my mouth. I have replaced the coil with a new coil, surely I couldn't have got two defective coils? No i have never rebuilt a coil as this is my first set up, if you think it will solve the problem I will definitely look into it. Thanks for the reply :)

You might also be flooded. You can take a paper towel and wrap it around the base of the protank and blow through the air tip and if juice comes out it could be flooded or juice had gotten into the air flow. If you have guegling this is likely the case and once it's blown out it should hit better. You might try it and see if it helps if your getting gurgling. Hope this helps and best wishes.

Just tried blowing through the tip and no fluid came out of the bottom of it, so guessing it hasn't flooded :S
I recommend doing it the other way around, as blowing through the tip may push juice in the tank out from the bottom. Or at least was my experience. Blow well, and I mean really well, you mean feel slightly lightheaded when you do this. Also, take the drip tip off and remove any excess juice on the drip tip insert with a q-tip or something similar.

You could also disassemble the tank and give all parts a good rinse, including the atomizer. Just shake it well after to remove excess moisture. No need to let it dry, but your first few puffs may be lacking in flavor and vapor as the remaining droplets of water evaporate.

I can't say I know what the problem is so I'm just proposing an educated guess.

Rebuilding coils isn't hard. You can learn a lot by watching YouTube videos. The mini 3 is a dual coil but most people rebuild them as single coil as it's much easier. The materials are cheap. All you need is some Kanthal resistance wire(I would suggest 30 or 32 gauge) some cotton balls or silica cord for wicks and something to wrap it around. Of course, practice makes perfect so you may have to make several tries before you get it right. Make sure you stay within the limits of your device, somewhere between 1.5 and 2.5 ohms. If you can afford an ohm meter or a multimeter with an ohm setting, it would help but it's not necessary as long as you get enough wraps so the ohms of your isn't coil too low. About 7 wraps of 30 gauge Kanthal on a 1/16" drill bit will give you about 1.7 or so ohms.

I definitely will try the air hole trick. I have a feeling it must be the wick not getting enough liquid and will try the cotton wick out to see if that makes any difference. Thanks a lot for the link! Also is it possible to buy coils for the protank that already come with a cotton wick?

no they come with silica wicks because silica does not burn.

What juice are you using? Is it clear or is it dark?

If you are getting dry hits, no flavor, your wicks are drying out so you need to suck into the drip tip to get juice to the coils.

The atomizer will crackle and gurgle when it is atomizing liquid.

The other spectrum is flooding which is too much juice into the wicks and flooding the coil. If this happens you will get very little vapor. There are other ways it can flood too but we can leave that for later.

No, they all come with silica, that is why people rebuild them. The stock coils work well though. I have 2 II's and 1III minis...I love them....it is a go to vape...

Bottom fill the mini...never top fill. Unscrew the base, holding it upside down then refill to just BELOW the hole in the stem left in the tank. Do not get your juice into the stem hole as this will flood the head (atomizer, coil- same thing.) You have to hold the tank and the drip tip with your other hand so it does not move otherwise you will get juice all over your fingers:) When filling, turn it slightly angled and let the juice fall down the walls of the tank....I put it right on the threads and it flows nicely into the tank...

Okay so I went out and bought an EVOD to test if it really was something to do with the protank. What I've found out that it is harsh to begin with using this tank as well. Once I get past the harsh hits I quickly change to another tank and the other tank works fine. So I think it has something to do with the battery needing to get going. Is okay to hold down the button on the battery with nothing on it to get it going?? Any reason why the battery would be like this?

Maybe you are just burning up your throat . After the first few burnt hits you maybe just don't taste the burnt hit for awhile because your throat is damaged.

....

miniprotank3 comes with dual coil...

I'd say work the evod for a while
