Welcome to the forum, Cincy! I actually quit smoking using a vape pen, an Ego Mega T setup. The best advice I can give you is to have a backup and get whatever flavor of juice in the nic level that will satisfy you. Good luck! You can do it. I smoked for almost as long as you've been alive, and quit on day one of vaping. It's getting close to 2 years now and haven't looked back. Any help or advice, just ask and there's a lot of folks here with plenty to offer :).

Which pen style do you have? I started with a Mod but worked my way back to the the pen style (ego and Evod) and really prefer them. I've got higher power Mods, Temp Control Mods and have them all packed away in their original boxes.

If you're a bit of a tinkerer and your pens start to become less than satisfying it's easy to improve them rather than replace them.

You can do it, I Smoked 2 + packs a day for 43 yrs. When you want a cig keep saying to yourself ( I DON'T DO THAT ANYMORE) . I was lucky and quit the first day I started vaping. After about 4 months I had a very bad day at work and thought I needed a REAL CIGARETTE , I grabbed one of my wife's, lit it, took a drag and almost threw up. Never again, never again. I wish you good luck but you have to want to quit really bad for it to work.:)

Hello and welcome to the forum @CincyBengals4ever. Glad to have you here!:)

If you are interested in learning more about e-cigarettes (and all the parts and pieces) below are some blog posts by ECF member @Baditude that I highly recommend for someone new to vaping.
Here are a few more links from New Members Information <= Link covers many topics. Here are two of them:
    Nicotine

A "general guideline" for nicotine concentration in e-liquid to the number of cigarettes smoked per day. If you are subohming (resistance under 1.0Ω) cut these nicotine levels by at least 50%.

    06 mg = 10 cigarettes or less
    12 mg = 20 cigarettes
    18 mg = 30 cigarettes
    24 mg = 40 cigarettes

    eLiquid/Juice

PG = Propylene Glycol - the "flavor carrier" of e-liquid. A secondary source of "throat hit", but not as strong as the nicotine concentration. Some people have a sensitivity or even an allergy to PG. It's very thin.

VG = Vegetable Glycerin - the "vapor maker" of e-liquid. Used as a sweeter in many food sources, and also as a skin emollient. It's very thick. Often labeled just "Glycerine"

PG and VG are often used together in different ratios in e-liquid. For example, a 50/50 PG/VG ratio. Many juice vendors offer a range of different ratios as far as PG/VG.

Hey Cincy.............welcome to the "not smoking cigs" club. Just so you know, vaping exists at many levels. My wife and I are good examples. She likes here X6 batteries and Aerotank dual coil atomizers. I'm a gear head, so I've gone the whole "hobby" route. She likes one flavor ejuice, I like to try all kinds. If you start digging into the vape community you will find just about anything you can imagine and for a new user it can be kind of intimidating. Just remember that the overwhelming majority of vapers are doing this for the same reason...........to NOT smoke tobacco...........

I have an evod pen. .and I like it,my husband and I decided it was time to quit spending our money on smoking and put it to other uses. I just don't understand the mouth hit vs lung hit.when I started I was inhaling and it was burning my throat. But after research, I see I am just to vape into my mouth.why does everyone let the vape out so quickly.do they inhale all that vape into the lungs, I have just had this less than 48 hours and as you can see by my questions,I an so green. ,
    All help is appreciated.

Well, I started mouth to lung which is the way I smoked. But I've changed my style to straight to lung. It's really not necessary to take the vape into your lungs at all. Vapor is different than smoke in that the particles in vapor are much larger than those in smoke. While your lungs can efficiently absorb the the particles in smoke they really can't absorb the larger vapor particles. The tissues in your mouth and (especially) nostrils absorb the nicotine from vapor most efficiently. That's why you will see many Vapers (who are vaping to quit smokes) exhaling through their nose. Blowing clouds is just for show even tho all the reviewers do it. They're just appealing to their audience.

As for the burning throat? That burning is probably what we call "throat hit". The n nicotine in the vape has a throat hit to it. If your vaping a juice with high nic level that can contribute to the burning.
Also if your juice is high in propylene glycol (PG) this can cause a very harsh throat hit.
If you're buying your juice from a convenience store the odds are good that it is just plain NASTY juice.

Cigs leave tiny lacerations in your throat, vapor gets less irritating as you leave the cigs behind... which can be quick as many posts here suggest, but don't give up if it seems harder or slower for you. (I preferred slower to harder.)

I usually use a technique with EVODs of allowing in a little air with the vapor, cools it and oddly increases flavor when done right, probably the turbulence. The clearomizers are very low power and often it's more a problem to get low enough power and/or voltage to them. So watch out for burning tastes, stressing them, and avoid higher settings if any. Especially with the original EVODs -- I prefer these with most ejuice, they bring out flavor to an unusual extent. The more recent dual coil EVOD 2 has cleaner flavor but less of it. Usually.
