hi there! newbie here from the los angeles area (san fernando valley). today, i am 4 weeks smoke-free! i smoked cigarettes for 19 years, the last 11 or 12 years at about a pack a day. i actually started vaping the last week of july, but then i went on vacation. i was worried airport security would think my ecig was some kind of bomb detonator, so i left it at home and went back to analogs for a while.

on my vacation, i smoked more than 2 packs a day for 11 days (i was hanging out all day everyday with heavy smokers). holy cow, that made my chest hurt! a couple of days after i got home, i started vaping again. i haven't touched another cigarette since. i actually still have 3/4 of a pack of marlboro lights left over from my vacation still sitting here untouched!

if someone told me even a few months ago that i would be able to quit cigarettes so abruptly, i would've laughed pretty hard. i was, and still am, definitely addicted to the nicotine. but i think my addiction to inhaling/exhaling "smoke" and the whole oral fixation thing is probably much stronger.

recently, i've noticed signs that my body is starting to recover from the past 19 years. i've been expelling a lot of nasty phlegm. i'm still coughing regularly, but nowhere near as often as when i was still smoking. i think my sense of smell and taste may be improving. i haven't noticed any significant improvements yet as far as shortness of breath during exercise, but maybe it's still kind of early for that.

anyway, i am really happy with how this is going for me so far. i just thought i would introduce myself and blah blah blah. i talk too much. thanks for reading!

Hi fellow Angelino! I was born and raised in L.A., and while I moved away 12 years ago, I still consider it my hometown. The last place I lived was up by Tujunga wash. Congratulations on being tobacco free, but don't beat yourself up if you still need an analog sometimes. The habit is extremely hard to break. If you put pressure on yourself and feel like you've "back-slided" (weird word, but "back-slid" looked worse), is counterproductive. Everyone quits at their own pace, so don't get discouraged. Remember, you're trying to improve your life - there is no such thing as "failed," there are just bumps in the road.

Another one in So Cal, born and raised in Glendale, now in the Antelope Valley. Was just in Encino Wednesday...

Welcome to ECF, and congratulations on being an ex-smoker. I also have a half a pack sitting here, and the other half of a carton in the freezer. I would never have imagined I would not be smoking it when I bought it! But, like you, picked this up and had a few cigarettes, but haven't had any now in weeks. It's a miracle LOL. Me, a dedicated nicotine addict NOT smoking??!! Amazing.

Welcome to the club of amazed non smokers!

Welcome, Fiddlesticks! 818 here, too. :) Congrats on becoming smoke-free. It's the best feeling in the world, is it not?

Like you, I never ever would have considered that I would be able to stop smoking so easily, if at all. I'm an accidental, LOL.

Enjoy your time here on ECF. It can be magical at times... :)

Hey Welcome to ECF!

I'm from the 626! I'm 23 years old, been smoking for 5 years now. I quit smoking for about a month now, but honestly I've smoked maybe about 4 real cigs during that time, but I only took a couple of puffs. The E-Cig works for me because it's not intense compared to the nicotine patch(I tried the patch 2 times, already both times it MESSED me up bad). The first time I applied the patch I used Stage 2 because I smoked less than 10 cigs a day and it made me nauseous and I threw up at work. The second time around I used it, was a spontaneous act of quitting but it was when I decided to finally give up on smoking. The second time around also made my fingers and feet feel all tingly and my heart was acting weird, it did not feel right at all. I felt that the E-Cig was for emergency usage like stress or after a huge meal. I've been smoking it daily but I'm also trying to cut down on smoking the E-Cig also.

First post for me!

Welcome to the forum and welcome to vaping! I am also in the SFV and they just opened up The Vapor Spot on Van Nuys Blvd. just north of Ventura. I went in there on Sunday and it's awesome. The people there are super helpful and you can sample flavors!

i went there for their grand opening. pretty cool spot.
