hey everyone, sort of new to vaping and looking to make myself some equipment. i am looking to make myself a vv vw mod and have no clue what to search for when looking for parts. i can get batteries and a box, i can solder and have basic metal working skills. i have an ego-t that i can use for the button and the 10 second timer from, but the threads for charging are stripped, but can still use it for a mini protank 2 or something that uses the outside threads ... what i need to know is where can i get the parts to change voltage and wattage ... i dont want one that needs to be adjusted with a small screwdriver and a digital readout would be nice, but not a must ... anyone know where to get parts for building mods like that

Hey mate, welcome! A quick note -- the amperages for something like the switch on an ego-t is only like 2.5-3 amps at *most*. You're probably going to be spending a lot of time at fasttech.com, and this is the part of the forum you'll get the most use out of:

Modding Forum

Since you have to have 5 posts before you're allowed out of quarantine and can post there, what are you using to vape on currently?

also, i am going to start making my own juice in a few weeks ... will be looking for the best place to get some low cost products for that as well ... i am really liking the vaping over cigs, even though i still have 2 or 3 a day ... down from almost 2 packs a day though ... if i can get my stuff built and mixed, i think i will be more likely to drop the cigs once and for all

Hello and welcome to the forum Barlow. Glad to have you here!:)

For all things DIY head on over to the DIY ELiquid Forum.

You will not be able to post there until you get in your first 5 posts and the servers update at :25 past the hour. Make sure to read all the "stickies". Also check out the blogs by ECF members Hoosier & dannyv45.

dannyv45 posted this thread a while ago. Recommended Reading For People New to DYI

For a juice mixing calculator consider using eJuiceMeUp

I don't just buy all my flavors from one flavoring company. I primarily use Flavor Arts but there are some flavors that TFA/Inawera/Hangsen/Capella and others do better (and better/best is subjective depending on what you like). Start out with a few recipes you want to make, research those flavors to see who does it best and then try making a few small batch recipes.

Here are some threads you may like to read through for different flavoring companies. Many of the posts include recipes and comments about a specific flavor.

1. Flavor Arts (FA) - Pure Vapes has 3ml FlavourArt flavorings
2. The Flavor Apprentice (TFA) - The Flavor Apprentice Flavoring Thread
3. Inawera (IW) - Inawera - a few reviews
4. Capella (CAP) - http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/diy-e-liquid/637270-diy-capellas-recipe-thread-v2-0-a.html
5. Hangsen (HS) - The Hangsen Thread
6. VapingZone (VZ) - New Super Concentrated Flavors & New Super Concentrated Flavors - Part 2
7. Flavor West (FW) - Flavor West DIY flavor review

That's awesome mate! It can be as expensive or economical as you want it to be, just be sure you're crossing your i's and dotting your t's. The links Susan & I gave you should have you on the right track.

Stay away from the typical manufacturers of flavorings you find in grocery stores. Those products are not meant to be vaped due to their high oil content, additives, coloring, etc.

Read all the "Stickies" in the DIY forum before you start spending money on flavoring.

i am doing some reading as we speak ... that is why i am giving myself a few weeks before i start to make my own juice, i want to save money, not waste it ... i need time to read, take notes and figure out where i should get started and what % if vg and pg i want to start out with ... i have already used some flavoring from the store to make some nasty juice i got from alien vapors (a place i got 2 juices from, and both tasted like what i am guessing dirty .... would taste like) taste good enough that i could choke it down, and it seemed to do alright ... but more reading will be needed for sure

ok, sorry i have been away for a few days ... just ordered an x6 (hope it is good) with a realtank pro 2 (cant be any worse than he crap i have now) ... can anyone tell me if it is true that the low volt ego batteries will burn coils faster than a higher volt one (someone told me the act of holding power on longer will do that) and does anyone have any advice on what ohm coils i should use with the x6 ... think it is 4.7 at max setting ... i have been burning coils like crazy (got one today for my mini protank 2 today, already junk) i burn a coil about every day or 2 now ... first ones i had lasted for several weeks ... have had better luck with the dual top coils lasting, but always worried about letting them run low

well if anyone is still reading this ... first, the x6 is 4.2v max ... second, i got some coils with wicks in them from ebay and they are doing so much better (10 2.2ohm coils for $3.50) will never buy the coils from the store again ... third, i think it is about time to get my juice making products and get started, thanks to much reading here

Heya mate, I missed this. I think you got volts and ohms confused. Coils gunk up mostly due to flavorings getting all up in your wicks and cooked onto the metal coil itself. Lower ohm coils (1.5 v 2.5 ohm) run much hotter, and can speed that process up. If you have a VV device, it's generally recommended to go for 2.2-2.5ohm, as they will last longer, give you more headroom, and increase battery life.

If you're really going through coils super quick and on a budget, you might want to look into rebuilding them as single-coil tanks are super easy to rebuild. For the price of a pack of coils you can get some kanthal, wicking (silica or cotton -- silica is easiest) and rebuild 50+ coils.

ok, my new setup is an x6 with a realtank por (II, i think) and some coils i got from ebay (2.2 ohm) with some juice i mixed myself ... i started with 36mg 50/50 mix and went down to around 25mg after flavors were added ... got watermelon, dragon fruit, maraschino cherry, sweet tart, and some sweetner ... first mix was a bit heavy on the sweet tart, but over all it was good for not being steeped at all ... the second mix should be a little better and is being steeped (day 2 finished now) ... btw, got tank, case, charger, 10ml bottle, and x6 for $20, not a bad deal seeing as my little ego-t was $20 ... live and learn, right ... thanks for all the help and advice, nice group of people here

got some bad news at work yesterday, all the vapers have been kicked outside with the cig smokers, sort of ...... about that one ... going to be sending a little letter to the head office soon

That's great mate, congrats on the successful DIY!

And that's a bummer about your work kicking vapers to the curb. I mean yes, you could talk to them about how if all the smokers become vapers productivity and health yadda yadda, but there are still so many social issues to deal with in terms of the other employees. Back in the day they had smoke rooms, maybe a vaper room? :)
