Thanks KK =D Can I call you KK? :2cool:

I think any variable mod would work fine to push the power, but I like the cigar style better than a box mod for some reason. That's why I chose the Apollo Vtube. It's pretty slick IMHO. The Kanger sub-mini is pretty awesome though! Lot's of options, moderate air-flow, and tons of taste!

Samoan blend, holy cow is that so good right now! :vapor::vapor::vapor:

Welcome to the forum!

Now it's time to pick apart that picture.... :)

Brief rundown on what I see in that pic... First, is the Apollo. It is the Vtube 4.0. It's 50w single 18650 tube that can fire down to .2 ohms. Looks real nice. Better than what I use, which is a Vamo V7.

Next, I notice the batteries. The Panasonic 18650PF is an odd choice of batteries to be included with the kit. The battery is rated at 10 amps for safe discharge. If you use a .5 ohm coil at 50 watts, you're using 10 amps... So, technically, there's no problem With it. Just don't use that battery on anything more powerfull and you should be fine. As a matter of fact, I like the panasonics in most of my sub 50w mods since they out last most others. Just don't exceed the 10a for safety. I'd try to find out what the maximum output of that Vtube 4.0 is. The yellow batteries I do not know.. just make sure they are NCR and have 10+ CONTINUOUS amp rating.

Next is the Kanger Subtank, Great tank. I think it's a perfect fit for what you have You could try rebuildables with it since it comes with an RBA, or you could just simply use replaceable coils, or you can rebuild the replaceable coils... it's totally up to you. Great choice.

The stock atomizer.. don't know much about it, so there's not much I can say about it.

Then I notice the nichrome. Although there's no problem with nichrome, some people don't like the taste. I haven't tried it myself, and I use Kanthal. You might want to look into trying kanthal to see if you like that as well. I'd suggest 26 gauge in the Subtank for subohming, or 28 gauge if you like to go higher than 1 ohm.

Lastly is the multimeter leads. Even though multimeters are more accurate than any ohm meter you could buy, it can be tricky to test ohms. If you can build a project box with a 510, and hook it up to your multimeter, that would be ideal.

Things I do not see:

Cotton. I would recommend getting some Japanese organic cotton. Easy to work with, no chemical processing, and better wicking.

Coiling jig. Definitely recommend one of those if you plan on recoiling them. I like the Kuro coiler, but I would probably go with a good clone, since they want $20 for one coil diameter jig..... this is one place I think they're price gouging.

ejuice... of course you mentioned that earlier. Just use what you like, since this is a purely personal choice. Just keep in mind, the lower the ohms, and the more vapor, the less nicotine content you can use.

Good luck, and enjoy the journey. With your RC experience, and electrical experience, I'm sure you'll have no problems. looks like you have a sweet setup to begin with.

Hi Neal, and thanks for the welcome!

Nice little run down of what's there :thumb: I do actually have a standard U.S. organic cotton, and recently received my order of Japanese cotton. Gotta say, the Japanese cotton is worlds apart! The way it's made, how easily it cuts (precisely as well), and ooooooo the flavor! Such rich and clean flavor from that stuff compared to the other brand I had. Night and day.

The other yellow batteries are the MXJO 2500MAH LiIon's. The match the Panasonic's pretty well, but were a lot cheaper for the two. By hit count, they are with in 5 hits of the Panasonics every time (I know there are drag interval variables, but this is over three days of resetting the hit-counter when replacing the battery with an average of 3 batteries a day). They are pretty solid so far.

I can't say much about the nichrome vs kanthal wire yet, but I believe the Kanger subtank mini came with kanthal coils to start.

Speaking of the tanks, I am using the RBA and have built a stupid amount of coil/wicks since I got this thing! Getting pretty good at it. I use a drill bit and some small tools, but I will take a look at a coiling jig. That's sounds pretty useful, but I am frugal when it comes to things I can easily do with out :D

Got the VG and PG juice in the mail today. Waiting on the flavors and nicotine to show up, then it's time to go back to the chemistry lab! Already have the recipe for the first batch and named it "Coco-Nella" (coconut vanilla mix :hubba:). I haven't found any good coconut mixes yet, and I really like some vanillas over other standard flavors.

Thanks for all the advice Neal! Very kind of you and helpful for the rookie here

Hi Jimiyh. There certainly are tons of flavors without mint! They even have 'tobacco' flavored ejuices, but honestly I think they are terrible... Pretty much anything you can think of in terms of fruits and sweets they have a mix for.

Check General E-Liquid Discussion | E-Cigarette Forum for some better coverage perhaps.

What kind of vaporizor are you using? Just asking because some of them won't handle the higher VG mixes (vegetable glycol), so look for a standard 50/50 mix (VG/PG (propylene glycol)) to start with.

I have been using Apollo ejuice, and they have waaaay better flavors than the local 'artisan' store near where I live. One of my favorites so far: Signature Series - TWO (15ml) & believe me it was just a fluke to try it because I needed an extra $4 or something for free shipping, lol. Supremely rich taste, but very sweet.

I advise you to pick a fruit or two you like and look for them. Lots of great info on this site, so search around that first link, and maybe check this link too: Search Results for Query: strong flavors | E-Cigarette Forum

Hopefully that helps some!

Thanks Krit and K_Tech!

Yeah nkr, that is what got me back no matter what I did. Quit for 3 months and was at a bar drinking with a friend who smoked. It was like something was missing when I was getting a buzz, and before I knew it I had succumbed to smoking again.

I've passed that test once so far, and I know the first couple weeks are the most difficult. Vaping is really pretty interesting as well, so I don't think I have any weak spots this time!
Oh yeah. The first couple of weeks I maintained a white-knuckled death grip on my APV, lol. It does get better!

Thanks for the welcome Diver! I was checking out that section quite a bit already, but I guess now I can actually post in it! haha.

K_Tech, yeah for sure I have been keeping my 'mod' close alright! Always have 2 spare batteries in the little case with some extra juice and a premade coil ready to go too :thumb: "Always be prepared", it has come in handy a few times already! Honestly, when it is not too much, I rather enjoy tinkering around with rebuilding the coils and what not. Getting to the point where I do not get the juice all over my hands, hahaha.

Jimiyh, sounds like you got a solid set up man. You should be good to go with any of the ejuice ratio mixes (VG/PG), so don't limit your flavor options! I hope you found something that fits your taste. That was pretty important for me, and not super easy, was to find the types of flavors I like. Spent a good amount of time in a local ecig shop and tested a bunch of flavors. They didn't have very good ejuices, but at least I got an idea of the flavors I prefered.

Lol... rookie, and you're already building coils and doing DIY juice.. I guess when you go into something, you go in head first :) Just take precautions and do research beforehand. I don't want to sound like a nanny, but nic base can be dangerous as well.

Now for the kuro coilers, they make a perfect micro coil in 30 seconds. Just to give you an idea of how easy, these videos show pretty much what it was like after the first 5 times using it (the first five, I was pushing down on the top too hard, and the coil wrapped around itself)

Now, The original is expensive, but I bought these at a good deal is to get the clones for $6. here's one place, but I'm sure you can find them elsewhere. They have several others out there that work on the same principle, but these do the job.

As far as Kanthal goes, I order mine from a company called Lightning Vapes. They've been in the business for quite a while. The only problem with them, is I've ordered so much, that I don't need kanthal for a few years. :) The guy started on ebay, and still sells through Ebay as well, and he's based in Florida here in the US. I dunno where you're from, but I'm sure he ships worldwide.

Now replacing three batteries per day, I can understand that. That is why my main device is is a dual battery system. It stresses the batteries less, so they hold a charge for much longer. I have a Sigeli 100, but they've come out with the 150 since then, and cheaper than what I paid for it. I Pre-ordered mine for $100, and now the 150 is selling for $70. I think the rage is going with Temperature control right now, so the non TC mods have been reduced in price, Personally, I am waiting for it to be perfected, and reduced in price before even considering it. I have no problems with using kanthal, so why change? (besides, I have that "few years supply" of kanthal).

Cotton... I still use the organic cotton balls from time to time. It all depends on how it's wicked. I do think the Japanese cotton is much easier to work with. I can only guess that it's how the fibers are arranged.

Well, good luck on your adventures.... if there's any questions, feel free to ask. I'll have to post a pic of my Vamo with a kanger so you can see how much better yours looks. :)

Wow Neal! I'm making one of those coil wrappers! Very cool =D I have a ton of tools and certainly can fab something like that up pretty quick. First off, that little 'nut' from the model in the video needs to be spring loaded so you don't need to switch it. At first I thought the 1 and 2 were printed there to count the rotations, ROFL! The neighbor has all the shiny powder coating stuff, but I doubt I'll think of ever coating whatever creation comes out of the garage past posting this sentence, LOL.

Yeah, I have a bit of 'go big or go home' attitude in me for sure. Really just hard up to quit smoking for good, and all this new stuff keeps me entertained and interested. I built military aircraft for 4+ years, and now am into electrical engineering (got the offer on the job, just need to clear another small bit of school to show them the legit piece of paper that reads 'yeah, I don't really have any experience with that' So I have some mechanical and electrical ability behind me. These things are just fun to be honest. It's the new 'cigarette cool' from a time when Joe the camel was a celebrity...

I read some really good things about Sigeli and was extremely close to picking one up instead of the Vtube 4.0... I just like the cylindrical style and shape a bit better since I'm always on the go. Putting it down is a whole other issue though  Base heavy so it'll stand up, but a bump to the table and it sounds like you broke a plate when it lands! That said, very solid construction and I am happy with it for my one and only at the current time.

DIY ejuice will be underway tomorrow evening if tracking is correct. I'm pretty excited about that part too. Read all kinds of threads on ingredients (harmful, safe, unknown do at your own risk, water soluble, what base, etc.)

The the initial first two weeks of vaping cost a good bit more than the normal smoking habit, but I feel that it will more than pay for itself in health benefits and over time cost reductions.

Thanks for staying in touch man!

All the best :toast:

Sorry, internet's been down most of the weekend. :/ If you have a small machine shop with your RC airplanes, and have the knowlege of working with Lithium Ion, then building your own mod to suit your taste/style should be fairly easy. Here's a few links if you're interested...

YiHi SX 350J chip/board 60w Temp control
Yihi chips If you want to browse their entire product line and then go shopping for one.
Evolv chips If you prefer the USA equivalent.

Fat Daddy Vapes 510 connector Simply the best, spring loaded center pin, soldier points... little fiddling with. Good wires, better than what you can get in the RC industry so they say.

Add your tube, or whatever shape you like, solder and design whatever YOU want. :) I have a feeling you'll end up making a box mod if you do.

Just throwing out links that I've found.. I've thought about making my own, but for the last 3 months, I haven't found the need for another mod. No new shiny stuff addiction.. go figure.

Hey Neal,

Although I did check out the integrated chip sets purely out of curiosity, I was talking about building a coil wrapping jig to build, haha. I certainly *could* build a mod, but why? I just bought one! I just liked the idea of not trying to press the coils together if I spin one up and it gets separated :p

Alababygirl, I am very happy with the Kanger mini also :thumb: It pulls just right for what I was looking for, and the RBA is quite convenient also. I did the little *drill hole modification* to it. I'll try to upload the picture to my photobucket so I can post it here later. There is another method called the 'pancake' method which this super .... vaper shows in this video:

Nice to have you here!

Have a good day you guys =D
