I've got a couple friends that just moved up there about a year ago. They had to go out and buy a window unit because the townhouse they're renting didn't have AC. That concept is just so alien to me. I don't know how I would handle living in a house with no AC.

I remember the first time I walked into a basement, it was neat. :D Houses here don't have them.

I didn't know that, steves. That is interesting. Here it depends on the style of the house. My rambler doesn't have a basement but my craftsman does. I love the basement even though it is full of junk atm.

Our frostline is only 18" deep so they don't pour footings any deeper. Up north it can be as deep as 6' so what's another 2' to make a basement. Also with the water table so high you'd float a basement right out of the ground lol. Or you'd have to put in French drains and a sump pump to keep the water out. Not cost effective.
