Greetings! I'm new here and just placed an order for my first starter kit after a couple of days reading through these forums. Just wanted to say thank you to all of the contributors who have made my research thorough (albeit somewhat overwhelming).

As a New York City resident paying over $10/pack (or having to lug back several cartons every time I visit DC), and as a long time wannabe quitter, I'm hoping that switching to vaping will finally be what I need to help me kick the nic. I've previously tried cold turkey (HA!), nicotine replacement therapy, and dopamine uptake inhibitors (buproprion), but have been lured back to smoking every time by a combo of nicotine, ritual, and flavor cravings.

After reading through all of the fervent postings on this forum, I'm really excited to try out vaping as soon as my kit arrives [I think it's a problem: I've checked the shipping status for updates like 50 times in the last 2 days]!

Welcome to ECF :)
I was a 2 pack a day smoker.
I bought my first e-cig thinking I could maybe cut down on the money I was spending on cigarettes.
Once I found the right E-liquids I went from the 2 packs a day down to 1 or 2 cigs a day.
Why am I still smoking 1 or 2 a day?
I have no idea lol.
I think to remind myself how nasty they are.
Anyway lol - Once you find just the right e - liquid for you I think you will enjoy it much more the cigarettes.
There are a lot of us here that just started using the e-cig to save some money and ended up quitting the cigarettes all together.
If you have any questions or need just to have someone to talk with to get through the cravings (if you even have any) Just ask and the help is here.
This is the best forum I have ever found and it is a great group of people.
Hugs and good luck to you.:)

Grats!!! Vaping works a lot better than those other things. Find juices you like and if you didn't get your ecig right the first time, most people try another month by the end of the first month anyway. Cartomizers can provide a more consistent vaping experience for your favorite thin juices once you find some you like. Remember to smell the vapor - much of the flavor is in the aroma, just like with food.

Pay attention to which types of flavors satisfy you and which don't. For now, avoid the types that don't. Some people do better starting on tobacco flavors and don't feel satisfied with food flavors. Some prefer to vape only non-tobacco flavors and feel satisfied. Some can vape anything. I was on that needed tobacco flavors (for the first 4-6 weeks anyway, though I could mix vanilla, chocolate, cocoa, caramel and fruit flavors into my cart with the tobacco).

Buy plenty of eliquid! New vapers are the ones who run out of liquid.

Have fun!

I gotta say... the $14 pack I bought the day before I ordered my first e-cig starter kit definitely influenced me. Thanks (and no thanks!) mayor Bloomberg!

$14!! Sheesh! I'm guessing that was somewhere in the city? I haven't bought a pack outside of Brooklyn since the last tax hike and still want to kill myself at $10.50 – $12 for a pack of Parlis.

Thanks for the support! I actually *just* killed my last pack of cigs and am debating going to the corner bodega to pick up a pack to tide me over. I tried to time this last pack to coincide with the delivery of my starter kit, but for some strange reason, being on these forums increases my cravings

Enjoy them while you can. I don't think you'll want them when you find your perfect vape.

Cigarettes taste like trash to most of us now.

Cheers.

Yep stumbled into a deli somewhere in the Village that must jack the price by a dollar, the cheapest I pay is $12.50 in the city now and most places have got Parliaments at $13 (always 50 cents more than Camels or Marlboros...) But! Haven't smoked one in 3 weeks now and really can't believe I've had half a pack sitting on my table for that long. Sometimes I see them and think 'oh wow I could smoke those' and then honestly don't even have to convince myself not to. Vaping got a real hold on me.

Howdy and welcome!!! hopefully your kit will get there soon and you can stop shelling out the big bucks.. Until you want another kit or mod, or tanks, juice, batts, etc.....

Ha, no kidding! I already spent close to $100 on kit+juice+accessories to try and be sure that I don't hit a dry spell on the first few days off cigs. But since I need to grab a pack before the kit arrives tomorrow (fingers crossed), I guess I'll have a half pack backup just in case...

That is exactly the sort of encouragement that I love to read!

It kind of blows my mind when I think about it. Anyhow--before I get out of here for the night just wanted to mention that not all PVs/attys/cartos/juices are the same. There are so many variables to this whole deal and if at first you don't find something that really gets you excited about it keep looking for a little while. I know it took me a good few weeks before I really found a setup that I really enjoyed. So don't quit vaping too soon if your first kit/juice/anything doesn't work out exactly like you hoped.

And good luck!!
