hey guys. so on sunday I'm going to new york for a few days to see my girlfriend. i really don't keep as updated with laws regarding e cigs as i should so i just wanted to ask if new york had any specific laws regarding e cigs. i don't want to vape and have all my devices confiscated or anything. anybody know the specific laws that new york has about vaping? obviously i will be respectful and not vape in shops and stuff but just walking around the city a nice vape every now and then would be nice as long as I'm not breaking any laws

Not good news for you if you are in New York City. I don't know if other cities have enacted similar laws. Google "Vaping laws in "city" New York.

Here are the laws for NYC: Update 4-29-14: New York City bans the use of e-cigs wherever regular cigarettes are banned including restaurants, workplaces, bars, parks and offices. Prohibits the sale of e-cigarettes to anyone under 18. Prohibits use of e-cigarettes within 100 feet of entrances of schools and public buildings.

I obtained this information from here: E-Cigarette State Laws Guide

If you mean NYC, you are functionally a smoker as Susan pointed out. Things are much different for now in other areas of NY. Just use some common sense, and you will be fine. I would imagine a small unobtrusive set up would work nicely. Both the people and the authorities in NYC have much bigger fish to fry than being on vape patrol, trust me.

You can be ticketed for vaping in a park or on a public beach in NYC. I think the fine is $50. I have to wonder if a cop would issue a ticket instead of just giving a warning though.

Talk about crazy when it comes to vaping and the authorities. Apparently, some guy in upstate NY got ticketed for using an e-cigarette while driving and was found guilty (though there is no law prohibiting vaping and driving).
