Hi all my name is lynn.

I found ECF just this week during my research into vaping. Since I've seen a few people tell their stories, I will tell my short mine :)

I started smoking @ the age of 15.I knew it was a bad habit, but back then I didn't care. About 5 years ago I was diagnosed as bipolar and my doctor said something I thought I'd never hear.... She said "Do NOT quit smoking". Her rationalization was that nicotine is an anti-depressant and was helping me during my depressed moods. I used my mental condition as an excuse for the last several years, but then the chest pains started... Not even 30 yet and I had chest pains. Scared the crap outta me. Let's not overlook the fact that smoking is getting rediculously expensive. I told myself 10 years ago "Once a pack gets to $5 a pack, I'm done" but then you find cheaper brands and keep puffing.

So after the chest pains, I found Snus. It was less harmful than smoking, I could hide it, and the smell of smoke would dissapear. This was awesome and my craving for smoking had reduced to less than 5 smokes a day. it gave me the nicotine but not the feeling that smoking had given me.Then I started cheating. Every time a friend picked me up for a nite out "I'll buy a pack and we split it". My husband never confonted me but I'm sure he knew. The desire to get away from smoking and snus really became a necessity when I found out 2 of my uncles were both being treated for stage 4 mouth cancer. One smoked one used dip. This pushed me to find a new alternative for my need of nicotine.

I'd been considering ecigs for awhile, but they were so expensive and i just didn't have the patience to wait for one to be mailed. Then 2 weeks ago, 2 acquaintances came to dinner, and they had ecigs. They told me about a smoke shop in town that had them for $20. WOW! Finally. I went to go get one as soon as I got paid. It's a" Premium". 1 battery, 2 carts, and a charger for $20. It's been 2 days and I'm almost thru my 2nd cart so tomorrow I'll be having to go get another one to last me til my order from the company gets here. I'm not looking to quit nicotine, just to get away from all the other stuff that could kill me.

I figured I'd start simple and cheap while I take some time to find something worth spending money on that will last.... So here I am. This place looks like a fountain of knowledge and can't wait to get a good ecig for long term use.

So yup, that's my story. Looking forward to learning what I can and being smoke free and snusfree :)

Hi, lynn! Welcome to ECF!

I think we can give you some inexpensive suggestions that will make you a happy vaper.

If you smoke half a pack or less per day, then I would suggest getting either a 510 or a KR808D-1 starter kit. Personally, I think the KR808 is the better choice, but that is just my opinion.

If you smoke more than half a pack per day then an eGo or Riva will probably work better. The battery life between charges is much better than the 510 or KR808.

I would suggest getting some cartomizers (cartos) instead of cartridges (carts). Cartos aren't that hard to fill. You just pop off the plastic mouth piece and drip juice on the filler. A standard carto holds around 20-25 drops; an XL will hold around 55 drops. Just make sure no juice is coming out of the threaded end, give it about 15 minutes for the juice to distribute through it then vape your head off. Easy and convenient.

Liberty-Flights is a great vendor and they carry the 510 and the eGo/Riva kits. Click on the Discount Code tab and get another 20% off.

Vapor4Life carries the KR808D-1 and they are another great vendor.

Hi Lynn,

I am new too - I was about to go back to smoking for the millionth time until I, too, bought a Premium (and then the rest of the stuff). It's been three weeks and I'm happy, but can't wait to afford/get the better equipment. I was/am a chain smoker/vaper (2+ pks a day), so I want to go for something substantial that won't just fall apart. Learned a lot here from these great folks. Would like to meet some vaping people, but in New England they'd rather see you shooting ...... than "smoking" so I'll have to start looking.

Good luck.

Welcome Lynn. You've made the right decision switching to vaping. I wish I had found this forum before I wasted my money on cheap crap starter kits. There are a lot of people hear that can steer you in the right direction. For me, I wish I had started with my eGo. I wanted an e cig that looked like a real cigarette. Big mistake! I soon moved on to a DSE901 and really liked it... for awhile. Then I broke down and bought an eGo and then a Riva, which is just another eGo. So you can see the money hole I fell into. You are doing the right thing doing your research first and doing it here. I really love my eGo & Riva and will continue to use them but now I'm ready for something a little more powerful, a mod. You're not ready for a mod yet so don't even go there. Good luck on your hunt for a great first (good) e cig.

I think the thing that is the hardest for me is wanting something that won't produce alot of vapor (smoke). I was trying to stay away from the eGo and Riva because of their large design, but this 510 i got is constantly plugged in when i'm not using it because i'm scared of the battery dying lol. The thing I need to research is what kind of cartomizer do i want to get that will give me less vapor? sigh, so many choices, it's like choosing ice cream haha.

Hey...good decision!!! You sound like one stock ecig and ready for a good mod. My first Mod was a 6 volt with a resistor to make it vape at 5 volt. Dont mess with that... I wouldnt even mess with a Ego 3.7. I recomend a 510N Kit. It is a 18650 battery with 3000 mAh...long lasting. You can run low resistance cartotomizers for massive pulls and the kits I have seen come with two batteries, a tube style body, two 510 atomizers and a charger all for around $60. Pick up a five pack of LR 510 XL cartomizers ($12.00) and away you go!!! Good luck and vape large... richie

Yo Ann_Marie... Stealth is always good. Some establishments in my town are posting signs that say they do not allow any nicotine or vapor producing devices allowed...bummer, but 100 %PG 36mg fluid is MY go to stealth liquid... Yo Lynn30... good choice with the ego... now stress that battery out with a dual coil XL LR 510cartomizer... major vapor, coming up! richie
