Like many others, vv mod would be the way to go before going mechanical. There's really no need for a mech mod unless you are using RBA's or RDA's (rebuildable atomizers / rebuildable drip atomizers) and those will be a huge pain until you get the hang of it. Lavatube v2 is really good for the price (there's a ton of others as well, but since I have one I thought I'd throw it in there). As for the tank, for simplicity I'd go with the Kanger Protank, or if you want to use cartomizers (which I like better) the Artemas tank is a good one. It's got a locking ring so your carto's can't slip out.

However, if you absolutely insist on getting a mechanical I'll say +1 for the Smoktech Magneto. I've been vaping a couple years now, just got one (my first mech) and it's a really nice mod for $45. It's got a magnetic button, so no bad springs or loose buttons. The lock is very smooth and it feels completely solid. The thing you have to keep in mind though is it's got a bottom button so you can't just set it down anywhere, you have to be careful about where you leave it laying. You'll also need something to check resistance. Either a multimeter or one of those screw on stands. I just use my lavatube once I'm finished making the coil and adjust it from there :p

Thanks again for everyone that has responded. You guys have all convinced me to go with a VV/VW APV. So now help me narrow down which one to get.

Provari
VAMO
Sigelei ZMAX
LavaTube
eVic
Innokin SVD

I am assuming whichever one you guys choose, I should get the newest version? Also let me know if you guys prefer the mini versions as well. Thanks again everyone!

As I mentioned earlier, I just got the Sigelei Zmax. Highly recommended. I will share how I came to decide on the Zmax. I personally don't like the eVic because it's a bit too "flashy". I don't need a puff counter and I don't want to have to "update" my firmware. Also there were little inconsistencies with the settings like only being able to go to 5 volts instead of 6 like most other APVs. The Provari seems to vape great and have loyal fans but it's not telescoping as far as I understand and I wanted the option for more batteries! And It's a bit pricier. I also prefer the look of the Zmax over the Provari. I like that the Zmax looks like a mech even though I am not ready for that yet. Soon enough though  The Vamo is great on price. You could probably find it cheaper then all the others and it has an extension tube so you can use different battery configurations. But I have had a couple different people that have the Vamo and Zmax say the Zmax performed better. Technically on the inside I believe they are the same chip though. So who knows? Also, to me, the Zmax is solid and seems a lot more sturdy then the Vamo. The Vamo does have a 3 button set up and the Zmax only has one. I personally don't mind it but some people hate the single button set up of the Zmax. The Lavatube is also a great device. Pretty much the same chip again (I think) but I have not seen an extension tube for it, I again prefer the look and feel of the Zmax, and it's pricier then the Zmax. So that is what went through my head when deciding which one to get. Of course you are allowed to have different preferences then me....I guesss.... :glare: Also the other APV I was looking at getting was the iTaste SVD. It's a little bit pricier but if you shop around you can find a good deal to match the others price range. It's telescoping, has a 3 button set up for easier adjusting, and it looks AWESOME (kinda like a lightsaber)! Also the set comes with the longer telescoping extension tube, 2 iClear 30's, and 3 replacement heads for the iClear. They are one of my favorite clearos so that is a bonus in my eyes :D Also, I only have version 3 of the Zmax but I have seen the newer version 5 and it has an updated menu and I believe it comes with a little USB attachment so you can charge your phone with it!!! Google version 5 of the Zmax and you will see what I mean  Anyways, I hope my input helped you narrow things down a bit! Vape on!!!! :vapor:

The Provari mini with the "Twins" cap will let you run 18350, 18500 and 18650 batteries, just saying. I really like the form factor of my mini and got 6-7 hours of run time on the 18350 batts. I could also tell a difference between the way it vaped and a Zmax. The Pro is a lot smoother and doesn't burn as hot to create the same vape IMO.
I've held an Evic and while it looked nice, it just felt "cheap" to me, not very heavy and it seemed like it would easily adjust in a pocket.
If I were to look at buying one of the cheaper ones, I'd have to go with a SS Zmax, but as I said, I've managed to kill my Provari, so there's no way I'd go lesser in quality than that!

I take back what I said up there ^^^ then. It can handle different batteries :D It just can't handle 2 18350's. But I have never needed to stack batteries so big deal :)

Ya know what is interesting about this? The Zmax on 'MEAN' mode was incredibly overpowered! Switched it to 'RMS' mode and I haven't run into any overheating issues since. But I have not used the Provari so there is a good possiblity I don't know what I am missing out on ;)

I am also very curious about how you are so rough on your devices haha

I... I... I... own an eVic. I got it on ValueVapor's $59.95 sale. Why? I'm a geek and the potential for "rooting"/"jailbreaking" or otherwise customizing a mod appeals to me. :matrix:

That said, it's not a bad mod at that price (I probably wouldn't pay more than that). It can supply more power than a ProTank can keep up with using thicker 50/50 juice. Being able to display watts, volts, resistance and battery condition on one screen, vertically, with one short click of the fire button is nice. Fine tuning the vape with the ring is super easy (but not something I do). At this point, it's a resistance checker for my RBA coils.

If you just want to experience VV/VW at minimum cost, and save the rest for the mech you wish you'd have bought ;) I think you can get a stainless steel VAMO from Fasttech for about half that price.

(a lot of this is TiC... no offense intended)

I actually thought about that. Every Android I have owned has been rooted :D Aren't there harsh limitations for something like an e-cig though. I keep hoping I can flash my V3 Zmax with V5 software ;)

Ya know... I've had some nice, some expensive knives... and then I have a cheap folder I got back in 1980. I've wound up losing/misplacing/damaging the good ones, but the cheap knife is still here. Every time I think I've lost it, it shows up again, sometimes in the laundry. Back to the topic at hand.

Well I used to live a lot more rugged lifestyle, I did concrete work, construction, tree work and cut/sold firewood in the winter. One day alone I was framing the inside of a house and killed three stick batteries! That is when I fell in love with the BB from Altsmoke, this is back before VV! I couldn't kill it, and still have it to this day, and it still functions with all it's scars! I've had to replace the 510 con and upgrade the wires, but it's still kicking!
Now I'm a cripple (broken back) that doesn't want to admit it! I still fell a tree now and again, I still get out the skid steer and do work when I feel up to it and work on lawn mowers and cars, or whatever gets drug over here as long as they aren't in a hurry for it! I've found a niche market for fixing things no one else can, because they don't want to spend the time on it, I've got nothing but time! So my mods roll down the drive, fall out of my pocket, get left in my pocket when I crank the arc welder up to 180 amps, etc.....
I figure a mod as a tool and I'm going to use it as such, I spent a lot of money, and still do now and again, on good tools and expect them to perform above and beyond! This is why I was leery of buying anything with electronics in it!

Age has cured me of most of that, I did lose a flashlight a few years ago, I was hauling brush and a branch must have caught the pocket clip? But most things have a place and I keep them in that place! I most certainly have to do so now, with the lack of sleep and massive meds I'm on my CRS gets really bad!
Anyway, derail over, sorry!

For what it is worth, for my first mod I bought a mini Provari with an extended cap and am so grateful I did! I use a Protank because it is easy but i know at some point i will be getting into rebuildables. I never worry about my Provari working (which for a newbie is helpful). I have since bought a Mini Reo and love it too. Presently, I use the Provari 70 percent of the time. I do enjoy learning and tinkering, and the Reo fills that need! Last week I added a Precise Simplicity for those few occasions when I need something smaller. Enjoy the ride and congratulations.

IF money isn't an issue, then the Provari hands down. It's PWM is at 800mhz, vs the 37 on other units, that's 800 cycles per second or 37 per second. Many, myself included, can notice the difference.
Provape has customer service, where do you send a Zmax or Evic to get fixed if it breaks?
Next would be a SS Zmax, decent price, decent durability.
Next would be the Evic, lots of bells and whistles, most useless, and not that great of a build quality.
Mind you, these are MY opinions and worth exactly what you paid for them!

800MHz (Megahertz) is 800,000,000 cycles per second. That is a frequency in the AM Radio Broadcast band.

The video of the Provari output on an oscilloscope on this site shows it is 800 Hz, which is 800 cycles per second, one-millionth of 800 MHz. This is an audio tone, a bit below that you hear Morse Code at in the movies (typically 1 kilohertz aka 1,000 cycles per second). Some Provari owners have reported "hearing" their PV.

The Provari frequency is far below that of the Joyetech eVic, which pbusardo measured in excess of 100 kilohertz, somewhere around 130 times that of the Provari. I'd think if Provari owners feel 800 Hz tastes better than 33 Hz of other units, they'd find the eVic far tastier than the Provari. ;)
