Hello everyone. I'm pretty much a newbie to the whole vaping thing, as I just started earlier this month. I was using a Vision Spinner II with some kind of generic tank with a bottom coil. Anyway, I've moved on, and picked up a sigelei Legend VV/VW unit. Anyhow, I have a coil that is 1.7ohm, and I'm wondering if I should be setting the voltage or wattage, and what I should be setting it at? I've read different things, which I think just confused me more, and I've also looked at a chart. From what I gather, I can set the voltage and run with that, or I could set the wattage and the unit will adjust the voltage depending on the ohms of the coil, which it reads (ohms of coil) itself. Am I on the right track here? I'm just trying to figure out what I should be setting, and what setting it should be. Anyone who can help me, I much appreciate it. Thanks to everyone here who posts all of this helpful information and is willing to help out newbies like myself.
VAPE ON!!! :toast::vapor:

a standard ego battery is set at 3.7V - there are a few other that are set at 3.5,3.8, and 3.9 but nonetheless the standard ego is 3.7V -----this is always MY starting point

from what i keep seeing recently, people will use this "math" for new ohms.---- take your ohms, and add 2, the result is the voltage you should start at.----- using this "math" your 1.7 coil + 2 = 3.7V

then again, its about taste, so if it taste burnt to you turn it down...

You're definitely on the right track. Since you're just starting out I would stick with the wattage setting for now. You are correct, wattage accounts for the resistance of your atomizer (ohms) and adjusts the voltage accordingly. An easy way to think of wattage is as the heat at which you vape. The higher the wattage the hotter the vapor will be. Start off with a low wattage setting and increase it gradually until you find a level that is enjoyable for you. Good luck and congrats on the switch!

Really it doesn't matter which one you choose to set. The voltage and wattage will change together because the resistance is constant. Most of the replaceable coils have a wattage limit, usually in the area of 7.5-8 watts. I would check on that, but I always like to start low and move up and down the voltage/wattage settings until I find one that tastes the best. And that even has a tendancy to change depending on the time of day, what I was drinking, etc, etc. Good luck!

Thanks everyone for your input. At least I know I'm on the right track now. I see that it's not really an exact setting, more about preference. I guess I just needed some reassurance that it was okay for me to tamper with my settings without burning up my coil or anything. I actually have changed from the iClear 30 that I had on there originally, as I didn't like it, and it was leaking...wasn't a true Innokin but a 1:1 (or 1:1/2 lol) POS clone. What I have on there now is whatever I originally got from my B&M store with my Vision Spinner II...it's some kind of bottom coil, I think might be made by Kanger (or possibly it's a clone too). It has 2.6ohm resistance, and I'm vaping at 8.2watts and I'm happy with it for now. I'm vaping Mt. Baker White Ice, it's a nice menthol ice flavor, and my favorite. Anyhow, thanks again to all...and I'll see you around. I'm so happy to be a part of the vaping community now because I've given up my Newports after about 16 years of smoking a pack and a half a day, now I'm vaping 18mg nicotine and haven't had but one or two urges for a cigarette. The urges were quickly squashed after a couple hits off my vape. I'm very proud of myself...23 days strong!!! There's no going back from here...my kids are ecstatic too. The wife and I both quit at the same time...my bank account is ecstatic too!! Lol!
