Hey guys. New vaper here.

I've been smoking for almost 20 years, and over the years, built up to about 2 packs a day. Over the passed few years, I've been feeling pretty crappy: low energy, bad skin, mood swings. I was able to go cold turkey for awhile a few years ago, and it was amazing how much better I felt in such a short period of time. Unfortunately, I relapsed, and have been trying to quit again without much luck.I had tried the cig-a-likes without any success, and given up on the e-route completely.

Recently, though, a customer of mine (I work in a restaurant) told me he had managed to stay off for 4 months with something that looked like an over-sized cigar. I told him, "man, those don't work." He set me straight, and told me to invest some cash in something with a bit more power. I decided to do some research.

After weeks of vids, forum lurking, reading, and talking, I took the plunge yesterday; got myself an iTaste 30w, a Nautilus mini tank, and some 18mg coffee e-juice from the local vape shop. The whole research process reminded me a lot of building a computer, with all the different components and price variances.

Last night I set it up, and took a few vapes to make sure everything was working. This morning, I had 2 cigarettes for the dopamine kick (I understand that vaping takes some time for the nicotine to "register"), and had the intention of alternating between a cigarette and the vape as the day progressed. To my surprise, I haven't had a cig since those initial morning ones....that's about 11 hours, so far, and to me, that's....mind-boggling.

I'm not entirely sure how I want to take it from here. I have a pack of cigarettes sitting on the kitchen counter, but I don't really have an urge for one - this coffee vape is taking care of that. I am getting that "spaced-out" feeling from excess oxygen (that I remember from cold-turkey), but other than that, I'm great. I still think I'll have a cig or 2 tomorrow morning and maybe even one tonight. I'd like to slowly try to phase them out completely, but don't want to rush the transition.

Apologies for the long rant, but this is kind of new and exciting to me! This forum has been a great source of info, so thanks to all.

Welcome to the forum cointerm and congrats on your vape journey. You'll soon realize how easy it "was" to go analog free by switching to vape. I have my last unopened pack of smokes in a cabinet as a trophy from January this year. Mind boggling is a very good description of how I felt the first two weeks of vape and no cigs. I dual used for 12 days before I hit my stride, don't worry if you have a few because you'll be around this corner before you know it.

When I "quit" I kept a cheap clearo/tank filled with the next level nic in it for those times the "itch" needed scratched. I would hit it once and go back to the regular nic level. I used this same technique as I lowered my nicotine level in steps to get where I am today, to 3 an less. I lowered my nic level because I never wanted that feeling of "itch" or possibility to grab a cig when the vape is charging or coil needs replaced and I am somewhere I can't fix it. Backups is a rule of thumb most vapers exist by (and it also allows us to buy more toys).

Good luck in your vape journey.

Welcome to the forum. I was a 42 year heavy smoker. Did not want to quit but thought if I could cut back to 10 a day that would be wonderful. First week I smoked about 5 a day. Then one in the morning for a couple weeks. Then I just decided to quit. I carried the open pack of smokes in my truck for eight months before I threw them out. Been smoke free for 1 1/2 years now. Everyone is different. Don't beat yourself up if you can't totally stop instantly. Just keep working at it and if you are going to have a couple make them different times of the day and keep switching the times. Good luck to you. I still look back and can not believe I don't smoke anymore. CHEERS!
