Hi guys,

You all gave me some great advice on upgrading the (stupid) No. 7 Starter Kit I bought. I ordered a starter kit from Virgin Vapors--the Ego-C Twist with a VV Nova Tank and I really love the system; could DEFINITELY vape the difference.

I wasn't crazy about the look of the huge tank, so a guy at Hoosier's E-Cigs helped me to pick the "beauty ring" that covers the second set of threads and I also ordered a VV Nova Mini, and it looks great now...seamless and smooth tip to tip.

I'm trying to discover the right juices right now--particularly ones that go with coffee. I drink coffee and smoke analogs all day and I'm not a person who can handle big changes easily, so I can't let go of my coffee habit.

For the life of me, though, I cannot seem to understand the differences between clearomizers and cartomizers and "attys"--I have a tank that's rebuildable, and I am experimenting with the ohms and voltage I like with good results.

My questions: can anyone please direct me to a good visual article or web site or forum thread that explains the differences between clears and carts? And atomizers? What are these coils I keep reading about? Or can you just explain it like I'm a dunce?

My theory is that if I tried a clear or cart I might be able to try new juices more efficiently economically. Is this theory sound?

I do plan to stick to tanks ultimately, but I feel like I waste too much ejuice (and money) because I think I can't just fill my tanks with a few drops--is this right or wrong?

Any of your friendly and knowledgeable advice would be most appreciated!!! I love this forum so much!

Vape on!

Hejira

As a newbie also i tried the CE5 clearomizers that came with my kit, and they seemed great and hold about 1.6ML. I have just tried the Kanger Evod which holds a little more at 1.8ML. and are easy to maintain so far and the flavor is much better. got hem from Welcome to FreE-Cigs.com - Live Free. Hope this helps.

If you'd like to sample different juices, get a bridgeless 510 ATOMIZER. You drip in a few drops and vape away (adding more as you go). Very easy to clean out when you're ready to check out a different flavor.

Your Vivi Nova is a clearomizer (tank). A cartomizer is a smaller cylinder packed with polyfill (?) which soaks up and holds the juice for vaping. Cartomizers are harder to clean out when you need to change juices. They're also harder to fill, especially if you're using 100% VG juice.

510 atomizer is the way to go for sampling, at least it is for me.

Hi and welcome! One more post (say Hi back to me and you'll have 5) and you can read the blogs. Baditude has a nice brief overview with pictures:

Hi Ocelot...thanks for the opportunity!! Love the vaping ocelot :)

If you'd like to sample different juices, get a bridgeless 510 ATOMIZER.

AWESOME!! Thank you. I shall get a bridgeless 510 atomizer :) Those cartos sound icky and complicated. And I am glad to know that what I have (the tank) IS considered a clearomizer. Whew, it's taken me a long time to finally have that answer! :)

okay.. lets see here.. new to these forums.. kinda new to vaping.. but im considerably knowledgeable. let's give this a go.

Coffee Flavors - this is actually where i began. my first pretty big ejuice order consisted of a lot of coffee related flavors. The Plume Room | The best e Liquid & high quality e cigarettes and personal vaporizers. is a place that i recommend. not only are their coffee flavors really really good, but every time i have ordered from them, i get a ton of freebee's =D last order i got from them, everything i actually ordered got upgraded in size [hell, they made my vanilla caramel frappaccino order into a 30mil!], AND they doubled my order pretty much with samples! i'm not talking about little 5 - 10mil dripper bottles, im talkin like 15 - 20 mil in size. awesome.

now. before i answer your main question, i also saw that you are looking for an "economical way" of trying out ejuices. in a case like this, you might want to pick up a couple Drip Atomizers. they typically come in 510 threading (that is the screw in that would fit in your ego twist.. also the typical standard for everything as far as size when it comes to drip tips aka mouthpiece, and where you screw in to the battery)
510atomizer1.jpg

the above picture there is an Atomizer (also known as Atty). this is a drip style atomizer. you typically put in like 2 - 5 drops of whatever ejuice you want just so you can try it out. you get a really good amount of flavor out of these things.

k. now lets get back to explaining what things are :D

357884_b38c10a026a4301a6656d46b2e6d134b.jpg
now this is what you would typically call a "Clearomizer." this is what someone typically starts with when they first get into personal vaporizers. liquid goes in, there is an atomizer inside toward the top holding the wicks, and you screw on the mouth piece (which is really called a Drip Tip, i'll get into that later).

carto.jpg
now this here, this is a Cartomizer, or carto. whatever you wanna call it. a lot of those corner store 7-Eleven type stores that carry ecigs typically have these on them. majority of these that you see are pre-filled with juices. but, you can also buy these empty and juice it yourself. they are typically good for about 15 drips, and you would have to replace it after i'd say a week? give or take a few days.

rba.jpg
these are what you call Rebuildable Atomizers. or RBA's. these are for the more advanced users. to actually build these, you have to have some level of understanding of how electronics work, or at least really good at reading forums and watching youtube vidoe's :p getting into RBA's is a whole different world all it's own, any experienced vapor would probably feel this way.

here. this is gonna get a little tricky
Capture.jpg
that there is a Genesis Style atomizer. this is where you would hear a lot about Coil, Stainless Steel Mesh, Wick, Silica, Kanthal, Nichrome, Bottom Post, Center Post, Positive, Negative, yada yada yada :oops::ohmy::oops::ohmy::oops:

k. now i just found out that you can only attach 5 thingies per post, so you're gonna have to read the rest and google some stuff :p

Coil - what coil is is pretty much wire. look up Kanthal and Nichrome. (most i see people use is Kanthal Coil)
Mesh Wick - this is wick that is made from stainless steal mesh. it's pretty much just a sheet of stainless steel that you can roll, then you should put it through a burning process to oxidize it. then you wrap the coil over the top of it that isn't going into the main tank. that coil then has 2 parts that arent connected to anything after wrapping it. one part will get attached to a Negative Post, the other to a Positive Post.
Positive/Negative Post - Positive post is usually in the center of the top of a rebuildable atomizer. this is the part where there is power, and connects to your coil to create heat. the negative is where the other end is attached to.
Silica Wick - this is something that you see a lot in Clearomizers. it's a more commonly seen form of wick. your Clearomizer and your Vivi Nova's have these.
APV - Advanced Personal Vaporizer. this is the term that is typically used for mods where you can control the Voltage, and in some cases, the Watts as well.
PV - Personal Vaporizers (obviously?)
Mods - what other people call pv's/apv's
Mech Mods - mechanical Mods. these are typically just battery operated vaporizers. Mechanical Mods don't have variable voltage or wattage as a built in feature like APV's or advanced mods.

not sure if i left anything out.. not even sure if this is all correct, to be honest. any one can feel free :rickroll:to correct me on this. but i hope this helps you out a bit more

Tekk,

You are a god! Thank you so much! Wrapping my brain around all the info in your post. I think lamarkk also recommended an 510 drip type atty. You guys are teaching me a lot.

H.

p.s. oh and thanks for telling me about The PLUME Room...LOVE freebies and generous vendors. :woot:

The resistance of the coil is what the "ohms" is measuring. Your battery puts out voltage, that heats the coil. Using ohms law to calculate power (watts). The more power the more liquid that can be heated into vapor. (depending on how fast the wick can get the liquid to the coil) everything works together. The lower the resistance of the coil the more power you will get. You can fine tune to your taste with the coil and variable voltage batteries.

The holes are for air flow. So when you "suck" it doesn't cause a vacuum.

someone beat me to the punch :toast:

also, if you're wondering= what he means by pg/vg, thats typically what the liquids are made of.
PG - Propylene Glycol
VG - Vegetable Glycerin

Ω = Ohms
Ohms = heat resistance
Voltage = amount of power
Watts = amount of heat generated (please correct me if im wrong on this)

and if you ever get a variable voltage mod, and you find that you prefer to be at a certain Wattage for flavor or you just like it, and your APV doesnt have a variable wattage control keep this in mind
(Voltage x Voltage) / Ω = Watts

so lets say your clearomizer or atomizer is at 2.4Ω, and you're running a 3.7volt battery, it would be
3.7v x 3.7v = 13.69
13.69 / 2.4Ω = 5.7watts

personally, i prefer 8 watts for a lot of what i vape :vapor:

I do get the vg/pg thing...and I do have a Twist, which allows me to vary the watts. I like my ohms so far around 2.4 and my watts setting around 4.2 so far...still experimenting, though.

So according to your calculations, I like 7.35 for the time being. Is that right?

InfoZone sounds like a good place to study, Katya!

Thanks, everyone. Much love,
H.

When I replied I thought you were talking about the holes in the base of an atomizer. The ones that go all the way through to the outside. If that is what you were asking about it is just up to the manufacture. Some will have more holes than others some will have different sizes. Some will have a "stiffer draw" than others.
