Hey all!

So I'm fairly new to e-cigs, and after some research, I'm thinking the Joye 510 might be a great fit for me as my main e-cig. (Like I'd suspect happened for a lot of new members, a recent marketing campaign got my attention to the existence of e-cigs, but that specific cig just isn't living up to the hype for me so far, though I'm still trying to get that sorted, but it seems a losing battle.)

What I like most about the 510 is it seems like a good size for me and a PCC is available to keep me charged up and ready to go (one that actually works quite well from what I've read). I've watched the most excellent hourlong intro to vaping video here, but I still have several specific questions, so I'm hoping I'll get some friendly help here. I am a total n00b, so apologies if any of these seem like basics!

My biggest area of questions about the 510 (Titan/Yeti/etc.) involve carts for it. Since it seems pre-filled cartridges in a variety of flavors are hard to find (and more expensive), I'll probably want to fill my own, most likely from the TotallyWicked selection as they have some awesome looking flavors and a pretty great reputation on their liquids. So here goes:

1.) The intro video shows the method of filling carts using a syringe or paperclip, but it doesn't use a 510. Is the 510 filled the same way? I'm assuming just dropping in liquid with a dropper to a cartridge is NOT recommended - you need to use either a paperclip/syringe? How many drops is typical for a new cart?

2.) If I buy "blank" 510 cartridges from a site (TotallyWicked or somewhere else), what does this include? Is it *only* the cart, or does it include the sponge/cloth/wick and essentially everything you need to get a working cart? I'm assuming I can keep using the same cart (for the same flavor) and topping off several times then assuming it does have everything included...

3.) If I buy an e-liquid (say for example, the Red Bull-ion from TotallyWicked, which is one I'd love to try), am I correct that you don't have to mix it with anything or have any other liquids in the cart - you just top off (til it's soaked in and just starts to look wet on top) the cart/insert with this liquid and you're ready to go?

4.) In the intro to vaping video, she kept mentioning how dangerous nic juice is. Say you spill some on your skin... It's not the end of the world, is it? Not anything stupid of course, but if an accident happens and you get a bit on your skin and wash it off immediately, it's not morbidly dangerous, is it?

5.) I'm still a little lost in the exact difference between the 510 auto and manual battery... From what I can understand, auto's are powered by suction, so work whenever you puff on them (and occasionally due to noise and wind), whereas with the manual, when you want a puff, you have to hold a button? Is this accurate? Why does there seem to be a clear preference for stores selling the manual - are the autos not reliable/that much inferior? I kind of like the idea of not holding a button to smoke the thing, but I can see how that might shorten battery life - it just sounds like using a button could be annoying.

6.) The PCC seems to only be USB (which is okay, but I'd still prefer a wall plug) - is there any way to plug it into a wall, or no?

7.) Is there any other e-cig I should strongly consider over the 510?

8.) Any recommendation where to get a good deal on a quality 510, preferably in black with a brass atomizer? TW is a bit overpriced (for the e-cig) I think (and I'm not crazy about their logo - sorry guys, but I will go for your liquid lol), so I've been looking for a kit elsewhere that's priced well and also comes with a decent warranty/customer service if something doesn't work right. What I'd really like is something with at least two bats (or three would be even better), two atomizers (again three would be even better), the PCC and mains charger, and (I think) that's really it for starters (maybe a few sample carts). I don't really need the car charger or anything like that yet, nor should I need a pass-through with the PCC - I can get either of these later if I decide I want them.

Thanks much for any help provided!

I can answer #7. The biggest benefit to the 510 is the manual sealed battery. Flavor lacks big time on the 510 IMO. Now that the 901's have come out with the manual batteries, I'd recommend a MANUAL SEALED 901 over the 510. You will have much better flavor. You just want to be SURE when you purchase from a supplier, that the new manual kit has the SEALED batteries.

Wow . . . some super questions. :)

There is more than one way to skin a cat, and, likewise, there's more than one way to fill a cartridge. :) With the 510, the filling is visible (unlike some of those tiny e-cigs where the filling is recessed). You can use a syringe, which is an easy way of providing deep penetration and good distribution. Or, you can simply drip some drops onto the filling, waiting a bit between drops for it to absorb. Or, you can push the filling all the way down into the cartridge, add more liquid, then push/pull the filling with tweezers to really get the filling saturated. Don't worry--it will become a lot more self-evident when you actually have the model in front of you and you start playing. :)

Blank cartridges contain both the cartridge and the filling. You can continue to refill the cartridge several times until the original filling just doesn't seem to hold liquid well or wick properly. At that point, you can either use a new cartridge OR you can simply add new filling. There's lots of information about what types of materials you can use to make your own filling. :)

Yup. You use these liquids to refill your cartridges, top them off, and/or direct drip into your atomizer.

No, it's not the end of the world. On the other hand, nicotine is a poison, and it needs to be handled with care. A small bottle of liquid if ingested by a pet or child could cause serious illness or death. And, yes, nicotine can be absorbed through the skin, but small bits on your skin aren't going to pose any problems unless you are particularly sensitive to nicotine. Bottom line, nicotine is toxic and you need to treat it with respect. :)

You might think using a button is annoying, but I gotta tell you that you get used to it almost immediately. With automatic batteries, there's a learning curve associated with figuring out how to draw on it. Sounds easy--just inhale--but it's trickier than that. Draw too fast/too slow/too soft/too hard, and the battery cuts off with the automatic. Also, if you flood your atomizer, it can really screw up your automatic battery--not so with the manual battery.

I can't tell you how many posts I've seen from people saying they were worried about getting used to using a button . . . and then posting that the button is the neatest thing since sliced bread. Basically all that you're giving up in my mind is the ability to hold the e-cig in your mouth and vape hands-free. Frankly, though, e-cigs, even the small ones, always felt a bit too heavy to me to do the dangle and puff bit. :)

6.) The PCC seems to only be USB (which is okay, but I'd still prefer a wall plug) - is there any way to plug it into a wall, or no?

Yes. You can easily find USB wall plug adapters out there--something that plugs into the wall, and then you plug your USB device into it.
7.) Is there any other e-cig I should strongly consider over the 510?

In my opinion, the 510 with a manual battery is a GREAT e-cig to start off with. :)

Others will post their favorite suppliers, but here are my favorite two. Janty (www.jantyusa.com) sells the Dura-C, which is their branded 510. A bit more expensive, but the warranty is pretty much the best around. My other favorite vendor for the 510 is www.widowsbeadwork.com. For $50 shipped, you get 2 atomizers, 2 batteries, a charger, and 5 cartridges. For $5 more, you can get one of her special deals, one of which includes extra liquid. She ships so fast your head will spin.

Enough people have problems trying to fill cartridges all the way when dripping from the top that they use things like paperclips or the straw modification to make sure then can get the whole thing saturated.

I can't really say, because I bought a syringe (Johnson Creek) with my very first order of juice and have been using that to refill my cartridges. It works great, but it might be more of a pain if you aren't filling a bunch of cartridges at once, which is what I do. Also it takes a light touch or you might overfill it.

I would recommend this though, which is more convenient than a syringe...
Precision Oiler - Needle Tip Oiler Bottle 1/2 oz.

Blank cartridges contain both the cartridge and the filling. You can continue to refill the cartridge several times until the original filling just doesn't seem to hold liquid well or wick properly. At that point, you can either use a new cartridge OR you can simply add new filling.
Another option is to remove the filler and clean it and supposedly it can be reused a few times this way.

I'd like to add that while new, I was completely impressed with the customer service and absolute speed of vapor country. I obviously haven't tried many juices yet but I do like the camel flavor from vapor country.

In the mean time I have an order in for a 510 from Innovapor and an order for a passthrough and some juice from esmokeyshack so we'll see how those go.

Wow - thank you for the great responses all - they've been completely awesome! A few responses here (and more feedback of course greatly appreciated; I've numbered):

A.) Interesting note about the 901 flavor vs. the 510. The main draw to me for the 510 is the PCC - as far as I can tell (please let me know if I'm wrong), there's no PCC yet for the 901 (though battery life in general is better I guess). I dunno. I'd definitely like good flavor, so if I crave more, I'll probably be picking up a 901 eventually... It is a tough call as they're both apparently great products, but I'm not someone who wants to carry a bunch of ecigs around...just a pack with everything I need to enjoy it and 1 spare, which the 510 seems better suited at... Is the 510 flavor that bad?

B.) It's sounding like a syringe (or possibly the needle oiler thing - cool link) is my best bet for filling carts. Actually, I think this sounds like it could be easier than I made it out to be at first - just a bit tedious. At first I imagined you had to mix your own juice, had to get your own filling material, etc. So this isn't bad. :)

C.) I'm also beginning to understand the appeal of the manual battery and the full control of the ecig it provides. (The great thing is I can try both since auto or manual batts will work with the rest of the parts, but I'm thinking I might prefer manual too by the end of it from how things sound.) So, I've heard this manual referred to as having a button and elsewhere a switch... Is this something that requires a lot of pressure, or is it actually a lot easier than it sounds? I guess if I get one, I'll see - I'm just having a really tough time picturing me holding down a button the whole time I'm smoking it. lol

D.) Thanks for the tip about the USB to plug adapters. I wasn't sure if all of these were equal, but I suppose it makes sense that they'd have to be...

E.) Thanks for the great suggestions as to sites to check out. I'll shop around and hopefully order next week.

Thanks again for all the help! This is getting much clearer. :)

I'm pretty much in the same boat as you. I was introduced to e-cigarettes via Blu's advertising, but I stumbled across the site a few weeks ago, and I've been doing research to find out whether or not I'd like to try e-cigarettes. I've narrowed my thoughts down to pretty much either the 901 or the 510, though I'm leaning towards the 510 more just for the formfactor and the PCC. My only concern, and one that I haven't heard any real responses on, is exactly HOW often 510 carts need to be refilled / topped off? I know that that answer is dependent on the individual user, but if anyone could give me some estimates (along with how often they vape or smoked analogs), it would be really helpful in my decision-making.

My wife uses a 510. She was a pack + a day smoker for 25 years. She gets about 20 draws on a cart before needing to top it off.............

No the 510 flavor is not that bad. Autos have an atomizer cutoff, so they don't get hot, and sometimes before you want them to. I still have to fiddle with mine to get decent vapor, but if I didn't have the 510, I'd probably be better at it.

510's are manual and you can hang on them until the battery runs out - not recommended :) But if you hang on the button the atty can heat up and heat can kill some flavors (it also enhances some - namely coffee flavors) so just push the button as needed - a second before and let off before you finish your draw. It isn't a big deal and it will be second hand nature before you know it - like in a half a day, tops.

Thanks all! I think I'm finally sold on the manual battery (may order one auto to try just to see the difference, but I really think I'll prefer the manual at this point).

Good to hear some people still like the 510's flavor. I'm really think it's the one to go with right now, and then if I want something later with more flavor (hopefully when a PCC or manual sealed batteries are available for it), I can pick up a 901 to have an alternative.

You guys have been awesome at answering my questions, and I really appreciate it! (Any more comments of course more than welcome and appreciated!)

I have an auto BlackSuper and smoke the same juice in both and detect no difference in taste, but it may be different with the 901 so if you get one report back.... I don't think you'll be disappointed with the 510 for now.
