Use the condom method to fill new cartos (there are several old vids on u-tube)
When you first notice the flavor shift, drip 12 drops in the top. They flood at 15 drops, so stop short of that.
If they gurgle after filling, a few draws without power will pull the juice into the batting.
As a basic rule of thumb, the darker the juice, and the higher the VG% the shorter the life span of the carto.

Do I need to stay away from the ego tank system?

    [broken record mode]

MadVapes 510 Ego Mega Dual Coil Cartomizer Kit

    [/broken record mode]

    :D

I have an eGO tank system that almost never gets used - the eGO Mega Dual Coil Cartomizer (EMDCC for short) has good vapor production and one fill lasts me all day but then I'm more of a moderate vaper. The 900mAh battery lasts me pretty close to exactly one day - I change batteries in the morning when I fill the cartomizer (which takes me all of five minutes including cleanup) and I swap batteries if I'm going out in the evening.

I think for a no muss, no fuss the damn thing just works starter system the EMDCC is awfully hard to beat. I fill mine with a syringe because they hold so much juice dripping from the bottle into them would be a major pain in the backside and the one I'm using now has been in daily use for about ten days without any maintenance other than carefully running a paper clip through the center hole a couple times a week.

One could do a heck of a lot worse.

owning an e-power, i can say it is an okay unit, but if i had to do it again, going from eGo batts to an upgrade, i would have just blown my load and got a buzz pro-
which is my new next step.
The E-power is okay...but the battery size of 14650 is bizarre and doesn't handle higher currents well....also, the button, the threading, and the "chroming" on the switch are all cheap.
that said, if you are not looking to do a large purchase like the buzz pro, ego and riva kits are pretty cheap and will give you more battery life.

That's not a fair comparison. I agree that the BuzzPro is better than an eGo/Riva or E-Power. But if one wants to stay in the form factor of the eGo type PV, then the E-Power is the best option. If they want to upgrade to a good 5 volt, then look at the GLV2. Variable volt, look at the Darwin for example.

I had unhappy experiences with the eGo-T type B tanks, even with the softie bottoms. The problem for me was always having to carry a paper towel and a bent paper clip to clean out the thing after I would inadvertently draw too hard on it. It's my fault entirely -- during the heat of conversation, sometimes I would revert to a hard cigarette draw and flood the passageways. It's not easy popping out the two little plastic thingies then mopping out the passageways in the dim light of a tavern and with half a buzz on! It's amazing how far those little plastic thingies can fly if you don't drape a bar napkin over your hand during the extraction process. So I gave up on the eGo-T tanks.

Since then, I've switched to echo-e carts. They hold a LOT of eliquid (easily 2.5 ml.), they're easy to top off using the drip-down-the-sides method, they're easy to clean with a syringe and isopropyl alcohol, and they seem nearly bulletproof (I haven't pitched one of them yet, after a couple of months of rotating ten of them).

The only fussy aspect of the echo-e carts is that it takes a while to fill them, especially with the VG-heavy eliquids I favor. You just have to be patient: drip 10-15 drops down the sides, then go do something else for a while, return to drip another 10-15 drops, repeat. It takes an hour or more to completely fill to saturation one of these, either brand-new or cleaned and thoroughly dried (I let mine dry for a full week after cleaning with alcohol). If one goes dryish, I'll top it off with 6-10 drops in one session, then let it sit for a while before vaping it.

WOW! Impressed with the number of reply’s!

Do I need to stay away from the ego tank system?
I did try to refill some 510 blank cartridges & cartomizers but it was a complete utter failure. Cartridges was time consuming & did not last long. Cartomizers was horriable- all I got was this nasty burn metallic taste.

The only thing bad about the ego is the expensive consumables. Any suggestions on where to shop for the consumable?

You made my point. Get an E-Power and your replacement battery costs come down by 300 to 400%.

Might want to hold off on the tanks for a bit. You're already frustrated with your PV. Some love them but the fiddle-factor is high. There are scads of leak complaints. The idea of a tank PV is very tempting.

For price and performance I don't know of a better PV than Kgo out there right now (not in the Mod category). It's an Ego clone with more voltage 3.7-4.2 instead of Egos 3.2 (BIG diff) and higher MAh 1100 (battery lasts longer). With a low resistance cartomizer or atomizer (1.5ohm) the Kgo delivers a mod-like experience. They're 39.99 to 44.99 for a kit depending on the vendor. HoosierEcigSupply and BreezeSmokes sells them. When family/friends ask about my PVs and decide to switch I send them for a Kgo and LR cartomizers.

Ego PassThroughs are nice for a backup. It's a regular PV (900 mAh I believe) that has a connector on the bottom to charge while vaping. It's nice to know you have a fully charged battery all the time. If you vape at your desk it's a nice addition for about $20. That and a Kgo and a noob is vaping like a pro in no time imo. YMMV. Good luck on your decision. You can't go wrong with a Kgo, Ego or Riva.

Nice suggestion! A beefed up E-Power.

manuals make it easier to get a good hit, and they won't turn on accidentally from wind or vibration.
I have a 510-t auto and the batteries it came with contain a vacumn sensor, so they do not switch on unless drawing on the e-cig. Which is good!

I ordered a couple of spare 510 batteries (not 510-t batteries) for long nights out - and those were sound activated like you say. Tapping them, or moving them around triggered them. I guess they were old stock (or maybe 510 auto batts are sound activated?? don't know).

(they also failed and my supplier replaced them with 510-t batteries which are also vac sensor equipped which was nice of him).

In the beginning (before I posted) I was looking at TW ego-t. Atomizers 12.99 & the low resistance atomizer 9.99. I find that somewhat expensive compared to the 510 atomizers.

I got a 5 pack of 510 blank cartomizers & somehow destroyed all of them. I did the tilt drip method twice, and the condom method twice. Same result on both. End user error or just cheap cartomizers?

    Just a side note:
I’m testing products for myself and my 65 y/o father. My old school dad is not going to fool with refilling products.
The old man is a heavy smoker (2 ½ pack day) compared to me (1 pack day)

All in all - I’m looking for something with heavy vapor output, and some type of cartomizer/tank/etc.. that’s going to be friendly to an old person with a short temper :)

Thank you all for your help and advice!

it might be an unfair comparison, but i wasn't trying to be fair.
Truth be told, i could have put the money i spent on the E-power towards a better purchase.
The E-power gets the job done, but at the end of the day i still feel, IMO, that one would be better off getting an ego battery kit, or just going balls deep and getting a more pricey, and higher quality, mod-
Silver Bullet, Buzz Pro, etc, etc

I am a relatively new vaper. I was a 2pk/day Kool smoker and I smoked my last analog Aug 1. I started with the apollo automatic and quickly moved to the Riva 510. I bought the lite bundle from LibertyFlights for 30.00. I LOVE my Riva and I am vaping the hell out of it!!!!!! Lasts all day; Vaping 1 hr to work, thru the day, home from work, and into the evening! I still use my apollo for a backup or when I don't want to carry much with me, but I am using the Riva on a daily basis now and filling my own cartomizers. Good luck --a great vape is important. The people on this forum are very knowledgable and helpful and they will help steer you to some good choices.

I agree with you! But if you dare suggest one of the better PV's to a new person, you will eventually have several people tell you that you are nuts. I responded the other day to a new person who wanted great throat hit and the best battery life. I suggested the Darwin and explained why. I had some guy who started vaping this month tell me I was crazy to suggest a "mod" to a new person. This guy has only vaped on one model, likes it and thinks no one should want more. I gotta just shake my head.

650mAh batt is way plenty. Not sure why people need more than that unless you keep on vaping and vaping. I use to be a 1/2 to pack a day smoker and I vape about 3 to 4 puffs every half hour and one 650mAh batt can last me all day and more.

And what if a person is/was a pack and a half a day smoker? What if they hit their PV every 5-10 minutes? A half a pack a day smoker - you were a toddler! Your little 650 mAh battery will last most people no more than 4 maybe 5 hours.

I am a heavy vaper and my PV lasts 21+ hours on a charge. I never have to carry extra batteries again. One size doesn't come close to fitting all.
