Newbie question

I purchased a set from White dragon two days ago. I am not thrilled with it, but I have realized I could switch from analogs. My fiance also likes it. I smoke about a pk and a half a day Kool xl. My fiance smokes about a pk of Newports a day. I would really like something that tastes like Kools! I tried 3 strengths of menthol but the stronger ones tasted like peppermint. Not what I wanted at all. I don't care if it really looks like a ciggarette. The amount of vapor is important. I am hoping to get some suggestions on what kind to buy. I really don't know very much about this. So I am sure I will have lots of questions! Thanks in advance for your help!

Welcome to ECF and information overload. There are many links and videos to get you started easily.
I would highly recommend:http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/new-members-forum/120044-i-made-videos-newbies-particular-broke-newbies.html, sit back relax watch a few videos. It will explain a lot of your questions. :pop:

Then there are some very good sources, here:
The ECF Library
and here:
ECF Library Annex

These will give you an understanding of vaping, and how to avoid mistakes in purchasing,
overpaying for a less than enjoyable vape.

And there are always friendly people here to answer questions.:vapor:

Ego or Riva will give you a good hit but you still need to find a juice you like.

Go to the Juice discussion forum and try using Search Forum to search for Kools and Kool - maybe you can find a thread where someone else already asked for juices that taste like them. Of course most of taste is smell so you have to let your nose get some of the vapor. And aroma/taste is subjective and also dependent on what ecig is being used, but you could get some leads.

FreedomSmokeUSA has a Newport-alike with some good reviews

Video review of this juice
YouTube - Basilray Reviews: New Port From FreedomSmokeUSA.com

I think Kools flavor will be harder to find.

I know people like the Halo menthols - here is one review

This is what i did.
I went to this place: http://www.21centurysmoking.com and got their mint liquid. Im not sure if they sell it online or not you may have to write them.
Then i went to janty and got their RY4
Mix and enjoy
I tried their e-cig at first I thought it was way better than mine turned out their liquid was just way better than what i was using.

Welcome Erica!! You'll probably find more help here than you know what to do with, which is better than just searching and searching online. I too want the cigarette experience at first, to replace the analogs. From what i've read and reserched, the Kr808d-1 or the 501 are the models that are the most favored by folks like us. The choices out there are mind boggling, and know what to get is really hard. I know, I too purchased a couple of kits from Lucky Slicks, which is similar to the White Dragon in that they really don't give you any information regarding batteries, cartomizers, cartridges or anything else that's available out there.

If you want to start with a model that allows you to use a cartridge or a cartomizer, has 3 different lengths and is compatible with a lot of different gear, you want the Kr808d-1. A lot of people try to persuade you to go to the Ego or Riva, because the batteries are so much longer lived than the 280 mAh battery that is the standard Kr808d-1, but they don't LOOK or feel like a cigarette. Looks more like a pipe for herbals, that I used to have long ago and far away. And that's just not what i'm into. I want something that looks and feels like an analog, so i can replace them. And hopefully wean myself off of them too. but I really enjoy vaping, just like I really enjoy smoking. And I plan to do just that as soon as i get my Kr808d-1 with cartomizers. I'm still using analogs but vaping too, since my Lucky Slicks have fairly small cartridges, and even though I drip a couple of drops of juice each time I vape, they just don't last long enough for me. The great thing about cartomizers is that they hold more juice, so you don't have to keep refilling them. You can have several different flavors of them, and when you want a different flavor you just pop a new cartomizer on. You can refill them a few times, so that saves money. And there are some good sites that offer fairly reasonable prices on cartomizers with pretty good juice in them. Or you can find your fav flavor out there and fill blank cartomizers. They come with little caps on each end, that are handy after you refill them or when you're cycling flavors to keep them fresh, and you can even use them to refill the carts. Or, if you want, you can get a DSE901 Atomizer and a drip tip and you can drip straight on the atomizer, which a lot of people prefer. You'd need a manual battery for that, so you don't kill your battery.

The best series of videos I saw were the ones that MistrissNomad did. She has a channel on youtube, and her series on the e-cigarette for broke people was ever so educational! Even if you're not broke, just the way she explained the different models, how to vape, how to drip, care and maintenance and how to make your own juice. It's the most comprehensive video series i've seen yet on the e-cigs, and i've seen a LOT in my quest lately. I would highly recommend starting there, and then making your own conclusions based on what all you learn. Then when you figure it out, come back here and you can get help finding the best websites with the most reliable products, that are tried and true by the awesome members of this forum.

I wish you good luck in your quest, and just know that most every one of us here has gone thru this, and we all feel your angst.

I'm not a menthol fan, but from what I've read throughout this site, people say there doesn't seem to be an exact copy of your favorite menthol out there. However, there are a gazillion different variations to try. Or maybe you could blend your own (at gourmetvapor) or if your battery allows for it, V4L has menthol samplers - 5 variations. Eventually you'll find one you like.

Just started vaping couple weeks ago....ended up spending waaayyy too much money on a riva kit plus clearomizers. Has anyone ever seen clearomizers with 100% VG juice gum up like molasses? Is this normal?

Morning Jack,

While I'm also pretty new, from what I've been reading VG does tend to be a bit thicker and can leave more residue behind. That also depends on flavor. I have a carmel macchiato from Gormet Vapor, it's a 50%/50% PG/VG mix and it definately leaves more residue on my atty and has stained the filter in the cart I use. (I have a pair I only use for this flavor.) I haven't tried a pure VG mix yet, but I can imagine. The carmel's pretty thick when I refill. So I'd say it's nearing normal.

You should research some threads on cleaning, there're many different techniques people have tried. (Perhaps in the above mentioned videos that I haven't watched yet.) Some use rubbing alchohol, hydrogen peroxide, boiling water, even coca cola. I just picked up an ultrasonic cleaner (the type for jewlery) and going to be using that. YMMV.

Hope that's helpful, good luck. :)

You can't go wrong with a Tornado Tank system, this PV Rocks

I second this. I got mine yesterday and have to say I LOVE THE TORNADO TANK! Dripping without the drip - the cart does it for you. Nice clear taste and large tank. Easiest fill ever - no syringe needed. THESE ROCK!!
