Hi ECF.

First off, I don't think this is the first time I've been here. I was around the e-cig community a couple of years ago but I can't remember which site I frequented. For the record, I vaped for a week or so back then (Ruyan) but my atomizers got clogged up real fast and just found myself drifting back to real cigarettes.

Currently I'm using both disposable e-cigs and traditional cigarettes. I've cut my down down 3/4 (40 down to 10/day). I'm happy with that for now but I plan to keep lowering my analog cig intake.

I have a couple of questions about devices/starter kits and what I should be buying. I really like the look of Blu's but unfortunately they aren't available in the UK.

1) What I want is an e-cig that has quite a hard hit and doesn't require replacing a million different parts for it to work. Preferably a black one but aesthetics are secondary.

2) I want a good amount of choice for flavour - after looking around a bit it seems I'm best off buying liquid and filling it myself as opposed to cartridges. Really want to try grape flavour, its like a pregnancy craving :D Weed flavour could be quite nice also

Are liquids produced by different companies compatible with all refillable ecigs?

So ideally what I'm looking for is a hard hitting e-cig, doesn't require buying spare parts constantly, a large amount of flavours available and possibly available in black. That list is in order of preference.

What devices/starter kits should I be looking at? (I am in the UK)

The Wood Between the Worlds
Electronic Cigarette - Starter Kits - E-Power

This is a good starter system. I'd pick up some low resistance cartos, and several different flavors of juice in small bottles.

What juice to get is the tough part, everyone's taste is different. I'd start with strong nic levels 18-24mg/ml.

Avoid the vaporizers that look like a cigarette, the battery capacity leaves much to be desired.

Excellent advice all around.

Another option for warmer vapor and more hit is a good 5 volt or variable volt model. Here is an example of a well supported 5 volt model with a lifetime warranty:

For a cheap and effective set-up, you could get an 510 1000MAH USB pass-through battery and some Boge 2.0 ohm LR carto's. I've heard great things about the Ego LR 1.5 ohm cartos, but just ordered them today. It's cheap, you can vape as you charge the unit at your laptop and then take it out, and with some good juice, you're sorted. I'm puffin away on mine right now and the vape is warm and TH top-notch!

Thanks for the responses. Though now I'm even more confused than I was before, the scene has certainly evolved in two years.

So, is the amount of vape (to produce a harder hit) based on the voltage of the battery?

When buying an e-cig that uses liquid as opposed to cartridges, is there any size differences I should be aware of? Disposable cartridges have been lasting me around 2 days. Can there be massive differences between models in relation to holding more/less liquid than others?

No matter what I buy, will I always have to buy new atomizers?

The Great Lake looks nice but I'm not sure if they ship to the UK, plus its $120. I'm looking to spend an absolute max of around £60 (~$90/100), preferably less.

The Smok E-Power looks an OK choice, but I'm pretty clueless at what I'm looking for. Anyone else recommend this, or do you suggest anything else?

I'm not sure I understand. Is that just an addon for a device?

It really depends what you are looking for. If you want something that looks like an analog, is easy to use and master refilling with juice but has to be recharged often and you need at least two-- there are several good options. Yes you will always have to rebuy atomizers or cartomizers or tanks no matter what option you choose. If a larger device that still somewhat looks like a cig but has a longer battery life you go with a fat .... like Ego Igo KGo etc. There are also pen styles. There are also box mods and tube mods and bottom feeders- the options are many really. It all boils down to what will work for you and how much you care about appearance, portability, durability, battery life, heat of the vape. You will not get everything perfectly all at once but you can get some great info here once you narrow it down a bit.

If you go to VapingGuides.com you can get some great starter info in an easy to understand format. I read all of it before making a decision and then I also read here like crazy for reviews of the models I had narrowed it down to that were in my price range.

Also the E-Power 510 and anything along those lines is actually not that big just fatter. If you're looking for smaller than that you will need multiple batteries because a freshly charged slim lasts anywhere from 1-4 hours depending on the MAH and how much you vape so you would need those in rotation.

This got bumped to the bottom of the second page pretty quick. Hope its OK to push it back to the top. Can anyone help me out with the above?

Also - Is there a device as recommended as the E-Power 510, but slightly smaller? That thing looks like I could beat someone to death with it.

The E-Power 510 & Riva 510 are the size of a slim cigar or sharpie pen. Not big at all.

The higher the voltage, the warmer the vapor and better hit. With batteries of the same voltage, such as 3.7, the higher the mAh rating, the longer the battery can hold a charge at a higher level. As batteries drain, their power output diminishes. If the battery has a higher mAh rating, it will stay at "near" a full charge longer, providing a better vape. A mini battery, such as a standard 808 has a 100 - 180 mah rating, whereas an E-Power will have a 900 - 1050 mah rating. BIG difference in performance. A good 5 volt model in comparison to a 3.7 volt model on standard attys/cartos will provide much warmer vapor.

The variable volt model I use has an 1800 mah rating with technology that keeps the power level at it's highest level even as the battery drains providing 21 hours on a charge and great consistency.

Have you looked at Totally Wicked? I believe they originated in the UK. They have several different types of PV's on their site as well as some really great videos. They sell and ego type (510) that has been renamed the tornado by them. It is very simple to use. They can be a little more expensive, but it is a great place to start. If you find that you don't like the cartridges that the starter kits come with. Crystal Clear Vape has a great cartomizer that they call the "Resurector." Cartomizers may not last as long as the Atomizer that come with the kits, but i've found the flavor to be better. Totally wicked also has a large variety of liquids to choose from as well as their own cartomizers.

Hello & welcome Empty Ashtray from another Uker :)

There have been a few reports on the UK e-cig scene of problems with the button jamming on the E-power. So if I was you, I'd go for a Riva. The UK seller I usually recommend is out of stock at the moment (apart from pink ones) but this is a very good price (use discount code xmass2011 for 10% off) -
EGO/RIVA 650 Starter Kit

For a good choice of excellent e-liquids, try Paradise Vapes - they do small bottles for only £3.00 & free P&P.
