So, on the advice of all the lovely people on this forum I obtained a 510 last week. It' s a brilliant little device! Clouds of vapor, pretty consistent throat hit, and the PCC (persona charging case) makes it easy to carry around. (I'm still having some issues with the liquid and nicotine content, but that's a different story.)

However...

It's not replacing my analog ritual, and therefore I haven't been able to quit analogs entirely, because I can't HOLD it the way I want to, between my index and middle fingers, while I type. It's too heavy (15g versus 1g for an analog). Also, the position of the manual switch means that when I want to take a drag, I have to rotate it around so that I can press the button with my index finger or thumb. That breaks up the rhythm of my typing and gets my right hand out of position to continue touch-typing... eek this is really difficult to explain, but can you picture it? I've tried holding the 510 so that I could press the button with the knuckle of my index finger, but then it bumps into the keyboard :(

I work long hours at a computer, and chain-smoke. I'm determined to replace the analogs with a chain-vaping habit, but I need a lighter e-cigarette... as in lighter weight, less than 15g, as light as possible. Also, it either needs to be an auto, or have a manual switch right up near the top (cart end). Help?

No one seems to have anything good to say about super-minis and autos, but what's the least bad one that fits my specs above?

Oh, it would be nice if it gave a throat hit and plumes of vapor, too :D

I don't know that there is an ecig that fits your parameters. By definition, even the smallest of these will be heavier than an analog(regular cig) because plastic and metal is a lot heavier than a filter and tobacco.

Part of making a successful transition to ecigs is understanding that there is some change of your existing habits. You can get an "ecig necklace" for your 501 so it is easily reachable without interfering with your typing. Widows Bead Work - Home sells really nice ones.

All that being said, you could try the disposable ecigs. I haven't used them, but perhaps they are lighter weight?

I'm trying to type with my 401 in my hand, and I can't figure out how you used to do that! It keeps bonking into the keyboard.

That being said, the 401 is a little lighter feeling to me than the 510, and uses an automatic draw. It's also at its best when you're sitting at the computer, because you can dip the atomizer in liquid for really good taste and vapor. It's still going to be longer and heavier than an analog, though.

The only really teeny e-cig (84mm from ebay) I ever tried died after about 5 puffs, so I can't tell you much about them. The one I had weighed next to nothing, though, and looked like a real cigarette, right down to the "paper lines" on the battery. So they're out there. I suppose you could buy one of those to hold and take an occasional drag off your 510 when you need a real hit, lol. Best of luck in your search!

Thanks for the responses, guys! It sounds like the 401 might be a possibility. I assume that's the M401? Annastasia, you wouldn't happen to know how much it weighs in grams or ounces (if you saw your way to sticking it on the kitchen scale... I would be totally in your debt  )

Incidentally, I used to hold my analog with the filter pinched between my right index and middle fingers. I could then type with all 9 fingers except the right index, and bring the cig to my mouth with a simple elbow torque action. It's absurd how rigidly this habit is set in stone for me

Another option, if you "chain vape" at the computer might be to use an automatic passthrough. I use an auto 808 in my car, and use auto batteries when doing things requiring my hands to be free.

An auto PT is pretty light because there's no battery in it -- just a hollow aluminum tube with wires going to the connector that a cartomizer screws onto, and the wire to a USB connector for power (use a standalone plug-in USB power supply, not your computer USB ports). I have no problem just clenching it between my teeth while typing.

What you want, does not exist. If "feel in the hand" is most important to you, then get any of the smallest auto battery type PV's. I think the 401 is probably the smallest on the market.

If what's most important is the "inhaled feel" of an analog, then get a good manual, larger battery device that is 5 volt or variable volt.

Look 1/2 way down this Library guide page for the most popular super-minis
http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...-4-6-buying-your-first-e-cig-little-guys.html

I would actually recommend M402 over M403 - M403 only comes with auto battery so the battery can accidentally turn itself on if shaken or from wind or vibration. But if that is not an issue, then auto should be fine. (I think a manual would still be useful outdoors, in the car, etc) I have M402 and M401. Sorry I do not know the weights - the postal scale here at work is not for lightweight stuff but my M401 (the longest battery - makes a unit the size of a 110 cigarette) seemed to be about .5 oz which is about 15grams. I think it's a bit long to hold when typing though the charge does last the longest of the 3 battery sizes. Even if our scale is off, I think M402 would definitely be within your specifications as well as the shortest battery M403. M402 is the shortest and lightest of my ecigs (I don't have M403 which would be even shorter and lighter).

Downsides
- not a huge hit but excellent flavor and decent hit if you replace old cart stuffing with blue foam
- cartomizers - not much choice if you want to use these and I don't know how good the 401 ones are
- small carts - .4ml and you have to push the inner cart up with a paper clip to fill it. Unbent paperclip is your friend with these guys. And I use a cart plug to push he cart back down. One note - kits mights come with old-style carts that have a spike on bottom of inner cart - I find those harder to fill. And extra blank carts you buy will probably be the newer style - flat bottom inner cart which also will sort up hold itself in the up position while you fill.
- you can't drip with M401 because both auto and manual batteries have a hole in the end (like all auto batteries do - you should have a no-hole manual battery to drip)

If you buy here you could actually make a kit with an M402 manual or auto and an M403 auto battery. I use the gold attys because they go with all of the battery colors. You can choose your atty and battery colors individually when you build a starter kit here:
myPVshop.com Electronic Cigarettes - Buy online from our retail shop
If you want a more standard 1-color kit, then it may be a bit cheaper at Electronic Cigarette Supplies & Electronic Cigarette Refills for Name-Brand Electronic Cigarettes! E-Cigs from LiteCigUSA

Re TH and plumes of vapor - that Avejuice Boba's Bounty - OMG. I just put a couple of drops in my M402's cart when I got the juice yesterday - it's all VG complex mystery flavor with TH. Huge amount of vapor and a TH that left my tongue and throat tingling. Maybe he uses red hots or something for TH, Whew. I would recommend that stuff but maybe mix it with another juice. It's so thick I don't know how it would wick by itself. I think it would be awesome mixed with your favorite juice. I think they also sell a tobacco flavor but I don't know anything about it.

BTW - I love my M4xx's. More flavor than my 510, tight drag like a cigarette, just have to deal with those little carts. But you could prefill a few and be all set for typing. Re blue foam stuffing - search Youtube for M401 blue foam to see a video. I make my foam stuffing a tiny bit wider because I have trouble making a nice cylinder. I started by cutting down the cheap precut 510/901 pieces at strictlyejuice.com then I bought some uncut which is Marineland Rite-size U Foam Sleeve in the aquarium dept at Petsmart. Nice stuffing, last and last, holds its shape etc.

But you could also look for a Joye 306, another super-mini with some respect. It is just hard to find and I do not know the weight. It's is probably more the thickness of a 510? Not sure. M4xx is the thickness of a normal cigarette.

I started with a M403 and returned back to it after trying several other PV models. For me, it was just like having a cigarette in hand, a bit heavier, but the size was almost exact. I recently changed to a Riva, because having a PV that emulates an analog cigarette is no longer important to me. I have a great supplier that I used for my M403, but he is not involved with ECF. PM me for the site if you want, he has a nice starter kit for under $20. May not be what you want (because of the weight) but you'll only be out $20!
