Newbie tank question

I am pretty new at this and don't quite understand all of the differences in tanks. I thought they just needed to hold the carto and not leak and it seems most do that. I figured the most important part was the carto, not the tank. Then I got to reading and thinking about vacuum from vaping and air pressure and all of the other things that could influence the juice flow into the carto. Does it matter and do some tanks "vape" better than others. I have only tried the Smoktech DCT and j-tank and both seem to work well for me with the right carto. I also understand the glass and steel for some juices. Other than looks, is there a science to the tanks and some work better than others or are they all about the same as to how they work?
