Hey there guys, so ive been reading about DIY for about 2 weeks now and am still LOST!

Trying to put together an order here, I'm doing this with a buddy so we are buying bulk as we figure our first attempts will probably be wastes.

I've already ordered a ton of VG and PG that was the easy part.

What do I need?

Here's what i think i need :)

Nic liquid (thinking either 60 or 100mg, not sure what base it should be, lost there)
Flavors
Bottles
Syringes, Pipettes, etc...
Menthol drops ( I want to make a tobacco menthol that I enjoy)

What else do we need? I have done a TON of reading as of late but still feel so lost.

Any and all help is greatly appreciated!

Jim

You seem to have the basics there. My only suggestion would be to go with a lower level of nic base than 100, it being your first go at it and all. Once you're comfortable with it, you can step it up to 100mg. The base nic solution is entirely up to your preferences.

About the only things I can recommend is some Lorann's Tart & Sour and Ethyl Maltol, either crystals liquid drops (TPA Cotton Candy is Ethyl Maltol drops). The Ethyl Maltol is a sweetener and it'll do wonders for giving your juice some nice body in small amounts. The Tart & Sour will really make fruit flavors pop in small amounts (a drop or two per 5ml will do the trick).

WARNING - Nicotine is a Dangerous and potentially deadly chemical that needs to be handled safely. Always wear the proper protections when handling it. " With that said, read below"

Don't be alarmed, anyone, even a newbie can handle 100MG nic, just be careful, wear protection and utilize common sense.

Personally, I suggest you order the 100MG nic, not the 60MG. Mostly because it cuts much further, but also because if you're serious about DIY then this is the NIC to order.

I recommend you order from ECigExpress, especially NIC. Their prices are the best around and the NIC is very nice and clear.

For flavors, TFA has some great ones, try their small bottles first. Capellas is great for bakery flavors and so is Flavor West. To start, I would stick with these 3 companies. Loranns, IMHO sucks and 99% of their flavors taste like someone .......*** up.

High Desert E-Cigs is a great place to order Flavorings from and John carries bottles, syringes, and various other DIY parts. Most importantly he did something I think is genius. He sells Capellas flavoring, called Ella's in 3ML dropper bottles for $1.99. This is great and gives you the DIY'er the chance to try their flavors for less before buying bigger bottles. You cannot find this anywhere else. You can also order Flavor west flavors in small 3ML bottles, not found anywhere else either. However TFA flavors are $.50 more on his site than on their homepage and if you want to try a lot of them, you might want to price compare that because TFA only costs $4-$5 for shipping and you can easily spend more than that at $.50 each.

If you want accurate measurments, you can use dropper bottles (counting each drop) glass droppers, or for even more accuracy you can buy a Pipette and Pump. 10 ml Pipette Pump | for accuracy <You will not find a better deal Anywhere< They also have 10ML educational grade graduated cylinders for $4.50 each and they're glass. If you want some of those, order them together and save some money.

Finally if you want to get a menthol, try Flavor West's Menthol and if it's to strong at first, dilute it in PG and go from there.

Personally I do not use any PGA (pure grain alcohol) in my mixes, but you're free to do whatever you want.

Don't let all the info confuse you.

Here is a breakdown.

Ecig Express

120ML 100MG nic $22.99 http://www.ecigexpress.com/nicotine-bases-36mg-100mg-bases-c-43_49_101/100mg-unflavored-e-liquid-nicotine-select-size-p-1485

Syringes, Bottles, misc $20

High Desert ECigs High Desert Ecigs - Age Verification

10 3ML flavorings from each company at $1.99 each $60 (click on the name and on new page select size and then click add)

Science Tools from Home Training Tools $30
Home Science Tools

You should spend less than $140 total on all of this and have a nice setup to get you started. Assuming you have the PG & VG already, this is all you will need for now.

I hope this is helpful..

Im looking to make a lot of tobacco flavors as well, where do you guys recommend i get the necessary flavors to experiment with tobacco flavors? I've heard seedmans, TA, then the other stuff like DK, etc,etc....

Check out two threads here - one is something like 'New Super Concentrated Flavors', and the other is something like 'EcigExpress Flavor Discussion'. They're both very active, so you should find them in recent threads. There's a lot of talk about the new super concentrated tobacco flavors. ECX and Vaping Zone sell them. They're great tasting tobaccos, and very easy to use IMO. Also, in both of those threads you'll find talk about newish Hangsen tobaccos (good also, IMO).

I would suggest you check out Wizard Labs for 100mg/ml nic juice. Also for PG and VG, and some TFA flavorings. Their quality is superb and their prices are better than ecigexpress.
..... You don't need 40 flavors to get started. Stick to a basic few in ONE direction.. not fruits AND tobacco AND bakery, etc. You can always order more when you have success and see what YOUR direction will be

So how many 30mL bottles can i roughly get out of a 120mL bottle of 100mg nic juice at 18mg/mL?

A 120mL bottle of 100mg nic will make 2/3 a litre of 18mg juice... (base nic / juice nic) * mL of base, or in your case (100/18)120=666.667. Divided into 30mL bottles gives you 22 bottles. There are lots of online calculators to help you figure out the exact mLs of everything you need for your recipes, definitely use them especially if you are starting out with 100mg. I decided to start out with 48mg just because i simply needed to mix it 50/50 to get my 24mg juice, and it made it simple to stay at 50/50 pg/vg (within tolerance of how much flavoring I use, which isn't much).

Ecigexpress is also a great place for tobacco flavours. They carry multiple brands so you can try several at once with one shipping fee. So far I've only bought from them. They have all their tobacco flavors organized on one page so you don't have to jump between the supplier pages. Unfortunately they don't carry seedman's, but I've had enough to try so far that I'm not missing it yet...

I totally agree on WL for nic. They have really good prices, and I've been very satisfied doing business with them. If Jim is after tobacco flavors though, I'd still recommend the new concentrated stuff from VZ or ECX though. There are some great TFA flavors, but I literally did end up with 40 (actually more) of TFA and FA just to find a handful that I really like (a fair amount of that was a search for good tobaccos). With the new stuff though, I've really enjoyed every single tobacco that I've tried - no duds.

Of course, everyone's taste buds are different, so I'm not saying definitively that he'll like the new SC stuff more than TFA/FA, but based on my experiences I think there's a good chance for a better success rate with the SC ones.

Does RTS vapes have good nicotine liquid, they have a good sale for first time customers??

Yes they do IMO. I have been using them for a year and very happy with them. They have a good selection of TPA and Chinese tobacco flavors to boot. Good luck to you, looks like you are on the right track :)

ECX Express flavors are very good as stand alone flavors. They are on sale 15% off right now through Sunday too.

ETA- If you are not sensitive to VG, you might want to get your nic in a PG base. It holds up longer and much easier to work with than VG base from my experience. RTS also has a 30 day money back satisfaction guarantee so you really can't go wrong with them IMO.

Thanks Salem, might have to go with RTS initially cuz they're doing a 20% off for first time customers. Their prices are good on nic and if it's good stuff I'll probably just stick with them for the long run.

Thanks for the tip on ECX flavoring sale...

I'm really interested in those super concentrated flavors too, sooo much to learn and try!

Literally I just started DIY this weekend, I have mixed alot of things today. Just from my problems today you will need a beaker(something to mix your juice in, thats wide enough), lots and lots and lots of bottles, syringes. I bought alot of 5ml and 10ml syringes but the ones I use most are the 1ml and 3/5 ml.

For flavorings, I went through a bunch of recipes and found things I would want to try, and wrote down the flavors for it and then ordered my flavors. I am up to about 50 flavors now all TPA. some are good some are just ok. Haven't had a bad one so far.

Once you start mixing you will get addicted I promise you. :)
Happy Mixing!
Danny

Thanks Danny!

Im thinking of going the route of those super concentrated flavors from vaping zone. They seem to have rave reviews.

To start we are only going to try and make good tobacco juices. But wouldnt mind messing with flavors such as vanilla, peach, apple, etc etc to add to our tobacco vapes.

My question is, is it fine to ONLY use the super concentrated flavorings or should we go with the TPA flavorings for stuff other than tobacco? The tobacco is gonna be the super concentrated for now.

Thanks!

I am not sure about that one, I do know that the tobaccos are harder to get right than the sweets. I have done key lime pie, redbull, smores, and a great vanilla recipe. Its a good feeling when you can make something that cost $0.50 thats equivalent to something that costs $6.00+. For your first couple recipes I would start with something simple, that way you can get used to calculating everything and tweaking flavors here and there. But thats just my 2 cents. :)

how are you guys making it this cheap though? Is that really what it comes out to?

picked up a gallon of pg and a gallon of vg 50 shipped for both.

Then the 100mg nic juice at 500mL is almost 70 shipped.

then super concentrated flavorings are like 50 shipped.

Im doing this with a buddy thats why were buying bulk.

Just wondering if I'll really be able to make a bottle that cheaply after all these expenses??
