Hey. I'm new to the forum and new to the electronic cigarette concept. Let me start off by giving you some background information about myself before I jump into my question. I'm currently 31 weeks/8 months pregnant. I am NOT a smoker as of now. I quit one month before my husband and I started trying to get pregnant; my only motivation to quit was to get pregnant, other than that, though, I would have continued on with my habit for God knows how long. I enjoyed smoking, I miss it very much.

However, I would rather not get back into the habit once my baby is born. I don't want my baby to be exposed to the smoke and it would mean a lot to my husband if I didn't start up again. With that in mind, I do wish to find another alternative so I can continue to enjoy the oral fixation and hand motion. I really feel that without finding an alternative, I would give in and buy a pack one day. It was then that I came across e-cigarettes. I would love to try it out once my baby is born and I'm done with nursing.

My question is: Do you think electronic cigarettes are for someone like me?

And if they are, my other question is: Since I'm not addicted to nicotine anymore, would it be OK to get an e-cigarette with no nicotine in it? I know most people say to only use the e-cigarettes when you're already a smoker and technically, I am not, but I'm trying to find a way to prevent myself from getting back into the habit.

TIA.
Sarah

I smoked for three years, about a pack a day.

In that case, I would really try to stick it out. If you've gone 8 months plus, and you'll be avoiding it while nursing (very good idea!), you might be able to avoid starting again.

I know so many other women have just quit while pregnant, only to start again after giving birth. Also remember that I'm a guy who can't completely understand. What I do understand is being a smoker for over 20 years. I wish I could have stopped at 3!

It's really nice to see that you are researching this ahead of time. It sounds like you've got a good head on your shoulders! Since you've got some time before you'll have to make a decision, I'd say you should snoop around ECF some more and find out what others have experienced. That would be the best way to figure out what to get if you still find it necessary.

I would agree with freaky style, I wouldn't start again. I know from my experience that after I quit and started smoking again, I went from about a pack a day to 1.5-3 a day. At least 2 packs a day for the last few months I was smoking. So, I will state again, I would not start.

With that being said, however, I began smoking again because I missed the oral fixation as well so I can understand. I went crazy, not from the lack of nicotine, but from missing the act of smoking. Since you have stated that you miss smoking and that without an alternative you feel that you will return to smoking, I think an electronic cigarette could keep you from returning to analogs if you could pick a pv when you feel the urge rather than buying a pack. Buying a pack was pretty much a deal breaker after I quit and started again. It was at that point that I couldn't go back to not smoking; I promised myself "I'll just smoke the rest of this pack and then I'm done." Never happened for me.

PV's have a quality that analogs don't; there is no time limit. You are not confined to a "whole cigarette" you can take 4 or 5 puffs and be done and when you are ready to puff again it is there. You can take it or leave it. When you need to have that fix it is there and you can put it down whenever you are satisfied. So much more convenient than analogs in that respect.

I think getting 0nic juice would be very good if you decide to go this route. Another nice thing is that the nicotine usage is in your control, you can have as little or as much as you need to feel satisfied. I wish I would have known about PVs before I started smoking analogs again.

My opinion is that it's completely up to you. You'll have to decide what to do. If you can't get rid of that urge to smoke, then e-cigs would be the perfect solution -- and much better than going back to cigarettes.

I just know that, after smoking for 42½ years, I'm so glad that I switched to e-cigs and wish I would have done it a long time ago. Just found out about it on Sept 3rd, though.

Whenever I see your name I think Grateful Dead - St Stephen.

I was just thinking that about the time factor and the zero nicotine option too. A couple puffs a day with some low or no nicotine could prevent a disaster. Thanks for fixing my error. :)

I quit the whole time I carried my daughter as well. The lady that came in the room with me smoked. I wish I never would have asked her for one. I don't think I would have restarted my habit.

If I were you, go with a 510 kit and use 0mg nicotine. If you can live without the nicotine, I don't see why you can't just enjoy the vapor, hand to mouth action, and the wonderful flavors that are available. However, if you choose to do this, I would suggest a DIY as it would save you a ton of money. If you can live without any of it, that would be your best choice. I most definitely would not use nicotine if you are going to nurse.

Congrats ahead of time on the new baby coming into your family. Keep us updated.

I agree wholeheartedly. You could supply your juice needs with a simple, cheap trip to Wally World. Humco VG and Lorann flavorings.

Sarah,

The simple answer is no. If you are off the nicotine even vaping no nic isnt something you should do. Not now while you are pregnant and not after giving birth and breast feeding. While we all believe vaping to be safe, is it something you want to risk your childs well being on?

It's one thing if your were still smoking. Of course vaping is "safer" than cigarettes, but there have been no real studies done yet that prove that is indeed safe.

If on the other hand, it's a matter of this or cigarettes, then vape. But only if you cant stay away from the cigarettes.

PS if its a boy, don't circumsize.

PSS My daughter is six months old this week. Her name is Sarah and I started vaping for her.
