Hello fellow vapers. Been lurking for awhile so thought I would say hi. Been vaping for about 3 weeks now and have been using a joytech evo aio. Love it.

I have a smok alien coming in the mail tomorrow any suggestions on setup for wats and what not would be appreciated.

Great to be here and look forward to chatting with you all!

Welcome @Khannnnn

I don't use any Smok tanks, but whatever coil I use, I use it at the lowest end of the watts range I can realistically vape at; enough so there is decent vapor production.
My tank tonight has a coil rated 30-45 watts. I am vaping it at 28 watts. Sometimes I use a different coil which claims to do up to 100 watts (it doesn't). I vape that at under 40 watts at all times.

Smok make some powerful coil heads with multiple coils we could only dream of a few years ago.
Whatever you choose, always be aware that the top end of the watts is always under ideal conditions and coil life suffers the higher up the range you go. From what I understand, the 30-80w coils work well from 40w upwards. 40 watts is half the potential but you get the benefits of longer coil life. You can work upwards (of course) but be ready to upgrade to an even more powerful coil if you want to vape at the full 80w, because maxing out a coil is always bad news soon enough.

I hope that makes sense. Good luck :)

Makes perfect sense and was exactly what I needed to know! I can already tell this hobby is going to get pricey lol. Good thing I work two jobs! Ty for the help!

In a way, the outlay can get expensive. I spent 2 years messing about with different types of hardware then 2 years building a collection before the European laws came in.

I wasted $800 (equivalent in UK £) on cig-a-likes, then
$500+ on basic equipment (eGos, clearos, liquids) finding my feet phase.
Then $2000+ over the years. (Mods, rebuildable atomizers, DIY liquid supplies)....

It seems a lot, call it $3,500 total. Less than smoking 1.5 years in the UK.

Divide it all by nearly 5 years and I guess $50-$70 a month or so.
At the moment my costs are zero. They will stay zero for a while. It's only flavors for the DIY that will need buying now and again. I also have a $500 stash of premade liquid all bought in the great sale of 2016 when 30ml became illegal to sell.

Yup... that sounds about right. Lots of money, but worth it to be free from the smokes. :thumb:

Don't get me wrong I'm happy to spend the money. So glad to be awake from big tobacco.

Great! :)

and by now, with all the development of kits (tanks and mods) you can bypass a lot of the 'near miss' products which haven't stood the test of time.

Yep from trek. I'm a treky! I am really liking my evo aio too. I got a good price on the Alien kit so it should be another good starter kit to start with.

Welcome to the board, Khannnan. It's so funny, I never could enjoy the early Star Trek stuff, this may happen to be because I just can't wrap my mind around "the Shat" being sexy or delicious in any way, but any SciFi series that can get Patrick Steward on board is a good thing in my eyes. I watched SO MUCH scifi and action films with the husband and the kid, I don't even bother with chick-shows anymore. If it isn't a spaceship, fast cars, or things blowing up, it can't hold my attention, LOL. I don't need a nuanced, exploratory look at the nature of the Male and Female soul, I get more than enough of that in my own personal life! :)

I can't say much about your new setup other than yes, start low, and see what happens. You'll be DL vaping, I assume that's what you were going for? Congrats on starting vaping and welcome to ECF!

Hello and welcome to ecf ! :D Also watts are subjective, usually the "recommended" wattage is written on the coils themselves. I use the big baby beast tank from smok myself (mainly the rba base but the coil is premade) i've always had my sweet spot somewhere within what's recommended (ie: rba rated between 30-60 watts i use it at 40 watts)

Welcome to ECF Khannnnn, I have one of the AL85 kits, and started out at the lowest wattage listed as the " best use range" on the coil provided in the tank and adjusted from there.

I'd actually suggest starting well below the recommended range. They're often exaggerated because of a perceived public desire for high wattage. I frequently prefer to vape below what's recommended, though not always. Some are more accurate than others.

Anyway, start low, inch your way up until you like what you're getting, keep raising it to see if it gets better until you don't like what you get, then back down to where it was best.

Welcome and good luck!
