Hi to everyone,

I’m a newbie and thank you all for your advice.

I’ve been using e-cigs for about four years now. I got so tired of recent coils lasting no more than a day so I decided to upgrade to a re-buildable.

Would you take a look at my first purchase and let me know what you think. Did I miss anything.

Here’s what I bought.

Authentic Plume Veil 1.5 by Aethertech. Of course right after I made the purchase I saw there was a 2.0 available for less than I paid for the 1.5

Orchid V4 Clone from fasttech

Combo tester

Nitecore D4 Digital Battery Charger

Authentic Sigelei 150W Box Mod

Kanthal 26 Gauge Wire

Cotton Bacon wick

Coil Master Wire Coil Winder

4 Ea LG 18650HE4 3.7V 2500 Rechargeable Li-lon Batteries—(I purchased these from fasttech and they were so inexpensive I’m wondering if they are the correct ones for the Sigelei box.)

Heather’s Heavenly Vapes Heavenly Tobacco, Dragon Fire, Pirates Booty and Dark Horse; Whiskey Rebellion’s Angry Farmer and Hamilton Heat. No more Dekang—I hope.

What kind of tip do you recommend for the Plume Veil?

What would you recommend for a Mod?

Thank you guys so much for sharing your experience and wisdom.

Hello and welcome to the forum KC. Glad to have you here!:)

Your Sigelei requires two 30A CDR batteries. Unfortunately the batteries you ordered are only 20A CDR (35 pulse/20A continuous)

=========

If you are new to mech mods and/or rebuildables I highly recommend you spend some time with Baditude (one of our resident battery experts) and visit his blogs. You are now 100% in control of your own safety (and others around you). Make sure you purchase an ohm reader and a voltmeter or DMM so you can measure your builds, check for shorts and measure the remaining charge on your batteries.

Baditudes Blogs. The blogs regarding mods and rebuildables are listed below:

BATTERIES

9. Battery Basics for Mods: IMR or Protected ICR?
* Another essential read to understand which batteries are safe to use in mechanical and regulated mods. Includes a frequently updated list of recommended safe-chemistry, high-drain batteries with their specifications.

17. Purple Efest Batteries Not As Advertised
* A cautionary blog that reveals that the purple Efest batteries may not have the specifications advertised. Also includes a commentary on "continuous discharge ratings" vs "pulse discharge ratings" of battery specs.

OHM'S LAW

14. Ohm's Law for Dummies (Vapers)
* My attempt at explaining Ohm's Law in layman terms and how it relates to vaping.

16. Explain it to the Dumb Noob: Ohm's Law Calculations
* As simple as it is to use, some people have a tough time grasping the concept. Warning: Includes graphic photos of mod explosions.

MECHANICAL MODS & REBUILDABLES

7. Information Resources for Your First RBA
* An essential read and reference guide for someone new to rebuilding coils. Includes a multitude of useful links on battery safety, mod safety, coil meters, coil building, and the differences in the three types of RBA's.

15. Inexpensive Mechanical Mod and RDA Setup
* A response to the frequently asked question on how to get into rebuildable atomizers with a mechanical mod inexpensively. Includes a list of commonly used tools and supplies for rebuilding and where to find them.

BATTERIES - WHERE TO BUY

Only buy batteries from a reputable supplier (not ebay or Amazon) as there are many counterfeit batteries being sold. Here are several reputable battery suppliers in the US.

* RTD Vapor
* Illumination Supply
* Lighthound
* Orbtronics

Rob,

I tried to quote you in my response but as a newbie, I don't think I can use links.

What a nice looking coil you built. Is your Orchid a clone or the authentic? I purchased a clone. Hope it's ok. Also, is the acrylic tank for breakage reasons? What battery are you using with it? I'm not looking for clouds of smoke (can't see that great any way) but just don't want to have such difficult draws. Thanks for your response.

What hardware have you been using for 4 years?

I think of the orchid as a budget kayfun; I hope you got a glass tank and some spare glass tubes for it.

I wonder why you bought 26 gauge kanthal?
30 gauge is a good all round gauge.

What would you recommend for a Mod?
Authentic Sigelei 150W Box Mod sounds good; actually fantastic, not just good.

Cotton Bacon wick? ? ? Think I'd like to taste that!

As far as the Orchid, I just bought stock what came up on Fasttech's page. I went back and ordered the replacement acrylic tank.

Hardware for the last 4 years--I opened my e-cig graveyard drawer and there's probably 15 or so VX Brandz EGO 650mah, 1100mah and 1300 mah batteries. Plus I had 12 different complete sets with rechargeable Joyetech 360mah batteries. (I only have this many left because I've given several sets away.)

I don't think the problem was the battery, I believe the problem was the CE4's and later the coils. When I bought a Kangertech Mini Protank 3, it worked fine on any of the EGO batteries but the coils only lasted about 8 hours. That's why I decided to try RBA's.

I purchased 26 ga Kanthal because someone at Heather's Heavenly Vapes recommended it as an all around good wire. I suspect I will need to try different gauges but that was a place to start.

I'm just getting started but what I can tell I'm going to need is a large magnifying glass and a base to hold the rba while I build the coil. Will be fun.

I'd go with the v6 because of the glass tank.

At $10.96, I'll try it.

Do you know if most people have a problem removing screws to fill the Orchid from the bottom? I can't imagine not losing a screw each time I try to fill the tank. I can fill these cheap CE4's while driving, at least when I'm at a stop light, but removing a screw might be tough...

instead of going with another Orchid. I would suggest picking up a Lemo Drop. Little more expensive, but nice to build on, and forgiving to wick. Also, you can use the included seal to not have to use the screw fill.

I know the feeling.

bought that but never use the magnifying glass much; too impractical.

the magma is easy to build on:

Note the wide spacing of the posts and the postholes are high enough and not down inside the well area.
but that's an rda

The build deck is just like a dripper deck, and the screws are widely separated; it's 22mm also, so the topcaps from other 22mm drippers can fit on it; I sometimes use the top tank from my biddripper on it; right now I have it set up on it's own with its own tank.
