Hi everyone! I'm fairly new to vaping, just started in June after smoking cigs for over 40 yrs.!
I am wanting to make my own juices and I have bought a beginners kit from vape play. My question is, when using a 9mg nic base with 50/50 pg/vg, do I add additional pg/vg to my mix to get my desired amount of juice to fill the bottle? Im confused on this.... eeerg

Hello. Not sure exactly what you're doing. Do you want a final nic content of 9mg w/ a 50/50 pg/vg ratio. I'm not a diyer yet, but I would think it best to start with a nic base that's higher than what you want the final content to be. Then add non-nicotine pg or vg and flavorings, if used, to get to your final ratio and amount. It'd be a good idea to get an e-liquid calculator to make it easier(after learning curve). Something like-> http://ejuice.breaktru.com/

IF you bought a 9mg 50/50 nic base, that means that you essentially have unflavored ejuice. the juice could be vaped as is, and you'd have yourself a 9mg ejuice with a slight sweet flavor. You then have to add flavoring to suit your taste if you want to vape an 8'ish nic solution. First, I'd recommend telling your final goal. I do something similar, by buying a 50/50 12mg ejuice, and fill it 1/3rd of the way with juice, and add Vegetable glycerine/other flavors. That's essentially what you're doing.

So, with a 50/50 9mg solution, if you fill a bottle half way, then fill the rest of the way with flavorings and more pg/vg, then you'd have yourself a 4.5mg ejuice. If you fill it a third of the way, and top the rest of the way up with flavoring/pg/vg, you'd have a 3mg ejuice solution. IT's really not as hard as it seems.

I have that calculator, and I'm wanting final strength to be 3 mg. So I think the 9 mg is high enough for what I'm doing, I just wasn't sure if I needed to add more pg/ vg , but I know now I do, otherwise I won't have enough in my bottle. Does this make sense? Lol

Missing from the beginner's kit are PG and VG. Up to 20% of your final solution may be a single flavour. Check out a few websites to find the recommended percentage of each of the flavours you have chosen. I find it better to concoct a pleasing vape without nicotine first, then play with the nicotine content. I'd consider ordering a minimum of 18mg nicotine base as that would be slightly more than 15% of your final solution of 3mg/ml. It will give you more room to play with flavouring and PG/VG ratios. I also use weight, not volume for mixing. I find it more accurate, especially for those flavours I only add very little of. A rebuildable deck atomizer would be a very good investment for you. With it, you can make up much smaller batches to try, and not waste as much. Start small with the flavours, and work your way up to something you enjoy.

Flavours usually have a PG, ethanol or mix of these as a base. This will vary by manufacturer as well. You need to find out what the base is for your concentrates if you want to accurately attain a certain PG/VG ratio. A good calculator is a must, as mentioned above. It will take time, patience, and several garbage batches to learn, but stick with it. DIY is an art well worth developing.

If you have a Tractor Supply Store close you can get USP PG by the gallon ($25) and also syringes in the livestock section. Walmart and some drugstores carry 6 ounces of USP VG in the first aid, hair care, or skin lotion sections.

Good luck in your journey.

What old salt said is true. I wold start with a higher nic base. But, seeing as if you already have the 9mg...

Just fill it up 1/3rd of the way up. You do need to check some sort of guide to know how much of a flavor to put in to get their recommended vape. I usually start off with an already flavored base, so what I do is simply add to the base flavor to my liking. Then I top off the bottle with VG.. I like a higher than usual mix of vg. So, my end result, I don't sweat.. usually during the first bottle, if it needs more of a certain flavor, I already emptied some juice in the tank, so I can add whatever flavor I want.
