I think I have an old tapped 1000:1 transformer lying around the garage some where. Maybe I should research DIY spot welders. (groan)

Do you suppose they use plain old 60/40 rosin solder?

Exogenesis analyzed the factory solder. I quoted the numbers in the atomizer rebuilders thread.

I imagine the ultimate bond would be found in brazing with 1200° silver and acid flux. RjG indicates he does well by tinning with acid core and following with silver solder.

hey hockermagnum, try using a carbon rod from a d cell to spot weld, i went to swap meet here in sac, found giger counters but no varics...

I used the heating element from a toaster, which is flat and pretty readily available. It's working really well for me right now.
