Nickel coil black spot

So the middle of my coil is turning black. Is it gunking up or are my spaced coils not so spaced in that section and that's a hot spot?

New to nickel and temp control so figured I would ask. Vapes great or at least I "think" it does without anything to compare it to.

Sweet. Makes me feel better. Not used to just a section gunking like that. Made me think it was something else.

Any idea why it seems to be building up there instead of across the whole coil?

The airflow might not be even. Perhaps some of the end coils are touching so it gets hotter in that gunked section. I lean towards airflow.

Can you elaborate on air flow placement? That spot getting more or less? To high to low? Coming from the side?

I felt like i had it wide open directly in front of it.
