I've kinda been wondering for some time if there is an easy way to know (serial range ect) if a GGTS is nickel plated or solid nickel. Thanks for any help.

That is what I am not sure on. I know I've seen for sale adds that people mention they are pure nickel but I have never seen anything that spells it out exactly.
I am pretty sure that there are no soild nickel GGTS'. Not sure about the other models though.
Plated aluminum.

Though not nickel plated, the SS GGTS has good percentage of nickel in the SS, hence why it is not magnetic.

No such thing as solid nickel. Metal is too hard. Nickel is usually applied over brass. The only nickel GG I have is a GGTB and it's solid brass underneath. The original GG's were aluminum and the new ones are solid Stainless Steel which is darn near indestructible
Good info thanks for the replies. I always thought they were all plated (top and bottom tube plated alum: telescope, connector, bottom cap, top cap, air controll ring plated brass) but a couple classy adds threw me off. Thanks again all.

I also have a nickel GGTB (brushed) and boy is it a ..... and a 1/2 to polish. I'm sending it out to be chopperized though

I really don't mind polishing the brass. I have (and polish regularly) a brass stealth cap, 2 brass telescopes, and a brass GGTS 510 base, and though they tarnish pretty quickly, they're pretty effortless to polish. Idk if it's because of the tiny grooves in the machined finish on my TB, but I can just never get the color to look uniform throughout the entire tube. That being said, I've only tried polishing it with Simichrome, which is much more abrasive than cape cod cloths. I'll throw up b4 and after pics when I polish it tonight.

You know my Nickel is my favorite finish but I don't use it since they aren't being made anymore and I am afraid of ruining the finish.
I know what you mean, but I just can't put down my GGTB. I haven't found anything that comes close to how it looks and performs on my 6v dripping mode Ody. It just looks sooo slick and is so low profile compared to the GGTS with 2 LiFePos in it.
Nickle is my favorite as it is the SHINIEST of all. However, many people's body chemistry turned them black or tarnished right away. I am one of the few that it did not happen too. Hence I have one more GGTS Nickle coming my way. That one will become my Monday only TS.
Hey RW - re: your GGTB - someone already ruined that finish before you got it. Would be hard to do anything with it now.
