Hey guys, I am in the need to buy some NR wire, since a new device I just purchased requires it. I'm new to NR, since I've been rebuilding Phoenixes and Vivi Heads for a little while now, and never needed to use NR wire.

I know that I have two choices.. Silver or Nickel. Though I could have sworn that I have seen somewhere that Nickel can be hazardous when heated up. Am I mistaken? I know that Nickel is much cheaper as well.

Please give me your :2c:

:)

Not sure about either - I've read that nickel is worst when inhaled but I know that one ecig supplier makes prewound coils with NR leads made of nickel wire. Silver can be used in nebulizer treatments but too much can lead to silver build up in the body with its own issues.

If I had to choose between the two, I'd choose silver but I'd be careful either way.

Go with silver, brother. Very slightly cleaner taste, and why risk the unknown if you don't have to. Price won't make much difference since the stuff will last you forever. If you're strapped just PM me and I'll send you some for free.

as for the Kanthal non-resistance the most popular size 32 gauge, but you can use thicker especally if you like LR setups. For the non-resistance you can use either sterling silver (pure) or nickel wire at 30 gauge or 32, though 30 is the most common. RioGrande is a site that has great prices or you can get it at ebay and of course silicawicks.com has the wires now. I use 32 kanthal and sterling silver on my Odysseus, the Penelopes older brother. Silicawicks has great 3.5mm silica that is the same as the one at the GG sites. It is the cleanest tasting silica also. It doesnt need to be torched to cleanse the taste like some silica does

The non resistance wire is not supposed to be particularly hot - it's job is to pass the current without heating up. The resistance wire gets hot. So really I doubt it matters. FWIW to vaporize nickel you would need extremely high temperatures which you are not going to see in an atomiser. Nichrome is used as resistance wire in pretty much all factory e-cigs ever made and that is as much as 80% nickel. It forms an oxide layer on heating which stops further degradation of the metal.

Just want to bring this back from the dead.

I started using silver for quite awhile, but got some nickel as well. I found that the nickel in my experience is easier to work with. It is more sturdy, and doesn't break as easily. I have been using it for about a month, and have been getting a metallic taste. I didn't notice it at first, but as time went on. I didn't associate it with the NR wire, since it had been a while since I switched. I assumed it was a bad joint of the NR and res wire. Built a coil with my silver as the NR wire, and the taste is gone.
