A couple things to keep in mind - Nickel wire is extremely low resistance. It is also much softer than Kanthal or Nichrome. Be very careful when tightening the screws as they will cut through the wire like soft warm butter. The first 26ga coil coil I tried came out even too low for the ipv4 to fire. I ended up wrapping as big a coil as I could fit on the deck of the Lemo I am using to get it high enough to fire. 28, 30 or 32ga will make this easier. And of course, you probably know this, but do not try a contact coil where the coils are touching...there needs to be space between each wrap. I wrap the coil on the mandrel and separate after mounted...I am working on my technique for this.

But when you get it done, enjoy your dry hit free vaping experience!

I am currently using TEMPERED NI200 27awg and it is WAY better than annealed ni200 in my opinion. Also use 28 and occasionally 29 awg.
I usually buy from stealthvape even though im in the US. The price is good its great wire and they are awesome. Lightning vapes also has tempered now but have not tried it, and thankfully Temco will be releasing Their Tempered version very soon starting with 28awg.
It is important to note that tempered wire can be made in 25,50,75% or full hard so not all Nickel wire is equal.
It is even more important to mention that most people I assume have a bad experience with TEMPERED NI200 wire most likely because they are torching the coil, just like we do with kanthal. This is a mistake and should not be done as it makes the wire very soft essentially annealing the wire.

Yeah I will be getting rid of all my annealed ni200 its just to soft and not easy to work with, also I noticed that the resistance seems to jump around alot more when I build with the softer wire no matter which method I use to trap the legs of the wire. I just built a new dna40 with atty lock feature but still I will stick with tempered wire.

The 30awg works nice with twisted coils too

For perfectly spaced coils, use a screw to wrap around. Works for me.

Which of these are going to be the best for a tc unit?

Nichrome
tempered ni200
annealed ni200

This most likely has already been asked but I don't know anything when it comes to nickel wire.

Thanks

I used Ni200 tempered for a week

Then switched to Titanium & never looked back

Its easier to work with, has higher resistance & tastes better

Just set your temp protection 120f below what you would for Ni200 & your good to go :)

I've been playing around with ni200 (Temco,28g) and I just last night found what I like. I ended up twisting 28 and while it looks thick and would have issues heating slowly and cooling slowly,I haven't noticed anything of that sort. Actually the easiest and best for me. The thicker wire is not as easy to break, and also helps insure good connections in the posts. I also found that I don't have to set my mod as high,I'm only at °375 and 30J, where as I usually have it set higher with single strand. If nickel is giving you problems, give twisting it a try, it really seemed to make things easier.

I personally like tempered ni200, I get it from LV. I got 500ft of 30g as I use 30g 95% of the time and I also grabbed 250ft of 32g. My local shop is selling 15f of nickle for $15 its ridiculous. The tempered stuff is soooo much easier to work not that I found the regular stuff to difficult. I also notice a tiny, tiny like hardly even there increase in the resitance from the regular stuff LV sells which isnt a bad thing. TC vapeing is just fantastic, I never thought 40w would be enough but I find I can make a nickle build at 40w sing like its got 60-70w powering it.

Nichrome has a funky taste for me[emoji77]

Several people protested loudly when I mentioned salvaging resistance wire from electronic component resistors - but that wire usually doesn't have any taste the first few puffs, the wire I bought wasn't labled as to what it was made of, but it has a peculiar flavour for a while when first used.

Most of the power resistors I stripped wire from had been running hot for many years, so the wire was annealed and run in. Some of the wire was pitted by erosion, so I get the impression that end of life is the wick getting gummed up rather than the wire getting old.

I use annealed 28g or 30g and have been loving it. So far, so good.

Annealed simply means heated to a certain temperature and cooled slowly - it removes the effect of work hardening that happens to the wire as its repeatedly drawn through dies to get it down to the required diameter.

A lot of people apparently anneal the wire themselves with a lighter.
